I do kind of dig the retro colours, the only thing that's always bugged me is that the helmets don't match. I loved the leather effect helmets they used to wear with them, it was such a downer when the league stopped them doing that.

Yeah it's frustrating. They're not allowed multiple helmets but every player has a 'backup' and some players that are the backup option for the 'green dot' can have up to 4 helmets.
The theory is that they don't want a player to wear a helmet that is not correctly 'worn' the head because it increases the potential to get concussed. NCAA schools have a ton of different helmets, and on top of that they could easily mandate teams utilize the 'alternative' helmet a certain number of times per year in order to maintain the correct level of use.
