This Sunday, Robert Griffin III will be the Commanders 'Legend of the Game' on Sunday vs. Dallas.

It made me wonder where the Washington fanbase is on this guy?

Are you eternally grateful for the 2012 season that showcased Griffin's incredible talent and blame the Shanahans for 'ruining' his career?
Or is he a self-promoting schlep who was never as talented as fans believed he was?
Or are you somewhere in between?

Personally, I feel like the team is a little tone deaf when it comes to Griffin. I think there's a big cringe factor with the guy. I bought into Griffin, especially with him being a 'leader' and his pro-military talk. He's a complete fraud in my opinion. I can't stand him. I take nothing away from his 2012 season, although I think given how the rest of his career worked out, the Shanahan's may have had a lot more to do with creating that magic than Griffin did (beyond his obvious physical talents). While the team probably deserves some criticism for how they handled his injury (especially allowing him to come back the next season so soon), I don't think it was the injury that submarined his career as much as it was his selfish attitude and marginal ability to read a defense.

But that's just me.

I think maybe tone deaf but he was such a comet. He came in so bright and left so quickly.

I doubt the average fan really understands 70% of his success was due to Kyle and Mike putting him in absolutely the best position to succeed. He also gets credit because while he is a self promoting , egotistical, thin skinned morally corrupt ass hat, he did go out and execute the offense and played lights out. So credit where credit is due.

My issue is he just doesn’t seem like a good person. He basically flaunted infidelity on Instagram and embarrassed his first wife. He lacks self awareness and so much self confidence he puts on a show and it is destructive to all around him.

Regardless, he was a comet. I think there will be a lot of cheering for him this weekend. And a smattering of boos.

I don’t think I’d ever call him an average Qb. Without his legs and the Shanahan system, he was a one read Qb.
But he was the greatest Qb to ever don a Redskins uniform. Don’t believe me? Just ask him. He’ll tell you.

Bob was and is a pompous, self-involved, ass-hat.

Former players that get into the media game always have a leg up when they bring some built-in fandom and audience with them from their time on the field.

I love that his media career flamed out in part because he arrived already having put off potential WAS fans of his broadcasting...burned his bridge and it came back to bite him in the ass.

I think RG3 was the benefactor of a great scheme and system put together by Kyle and the rest of that staff. I think towards the end of that season defenses were starting to figure him out because his numbers dropped off. Of course his knee injury against the Ravens played into that a little bit, but when his running lanes were taken away you could tell he couldn't read a defense well at all......Those 1st round picks we gave up for him certainly didn't help Gruden later down the road either. Because of that, to this day I cringe at the thought of trading away draft picks for anyone

I fell for everything at first too. We got his jersey and 2012 was a bright light in usually dim years. In the end, he was an overly self-serving dude. Maaaaybe if he started off with someone who could relate to players AND be strict, like Tomlin, it could have worked out different. So, not big on RG3 in general.

Coaches did play a part in it too. Dad Shanahan didn't lead well. And interestingly, never had a cup coffee again in the NFL after this.

Another "interesting" thing while we are down memory lane. Kyle Shanahan somehow has a way of having CRIPPLING injuries to his teams every year. SF is always in the mix, despite always getting hammered with injuries.

Anyways, kudos to the new ownership for being classy and reaching out to past players! But some like Arrington and RG3 -- they didn't haaaave to, Lol.

Griffin had a great year in 2012. He’s also pompous and self promoting and I wish he would go away. 2012 was a long time ago and I think he needs to realize there are a lot of athletes across all sports who have had 1 very successful year and that’s their whole career. I have no problem with them honoring him, but I’ll be surprised if he takes this humbly and doesn’t make it about himself.

He along with his Dad took a GREAT Combo of Him & Coaches and flushed it . He let Snyder get into his head and thought he was bigger than the team. RG-ME was real. I personally don't want him anywhere near this team..he cost us 10 more years of CRAP in what *could* have been a real dynasty with Kyle taking over from Mike.

Why is the team embracing this fool?

rgme is a legend in his own mind.

RGIII is the perfect model of the Snyder era of the Redskins. On paper, he was invincible. He started out as a phenom, but when he faced his first adversity, he folded, hit the matt, and never rose again. Not with us, the Browns, the Ravens, or any other team he played for. He had a magic rookie season before the knee injury. Shanny did him wrong by playing him when it was obviously a stupid choice. By the end of his tenure here I remember him struggling with handoffs (seriously.)

RGIII could have been great for us, if he had the discipline, teachers, and humbleness. Instead, he never grew and became a bust that hamstrung this team for five years because of all the lost draft capitol it took to get him.

He had a legendary rookie season. He was not a Redskins' legend.

RGMe did give us one of the best seasons we've all had in the past two decades.

But he owes the Shanahans every ounce of success he ever had. His track record after them proved it. Shanahan didn't ruin him, instead RG3, his dad and little Napoleon ruined any chance we had at success with an unbelievable coaching staff by pissing them off and chopping out their legs.

Hail.

It is interesting (perhaps) to think about RGIII in terms of a one-hit wonder. About that musician who put out a number one song that everyone loved and still loves, but never got on the charts again. RGIII is like A-Ha still riding the coat tails of Take on Me forty years later.

"chopping out their legs" is an unfortunate turn of phrase.

I wonder what he will do tomorrow to bring extra attention to himself.

I hope he is humble (and humbled by the honor) but I’m not going to hold my breath.
