REDSKINS SIGN LB EVERETTE BROWN

RICHMOND, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent linebacker Everette Brown. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Brown (6-1, 263) was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 38 career games with three starts with the Panthers (2009-11), San Diego Chargers (2011-12) and Dallas Cowboys (2013). Brown also spent time on the rosters of the Detroit Lions (2012) and Philadelphia Eagles (2013).

For his career, Brown has recorded 59 tackles (42 solo) with seven sacks, four forced fumbles, three passes defensed and an interception. Last season, he appeared in seven games for the Cowboys and notched a sack in his season debut vs. Minnesota in Week 9.

Brown played collegiately at Florida State from 2005-08, appearing in 41 games with 25 starts. As a junior in 2008, Brown earned first-team All-ACC and second-team All-America honors after finishing third in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 13.5 sacks. He exited Florida State ranking fifth in Seminoles history with 23 career sacks.

Brown, 26, attended Beddingfield H.S. in Stantonsburg, N.C., where he recorded 120 tackles with 16 sacks and was named the state’s top defensive lineman by Rivals.com as a senior. He was born on Aug. 7, 1987.

Jenkins replacement ?
Interesting because Gruden said the reason they cut Jenkins is because they "liked the guys beneath him, who were stepping up",
as if they were already stacked at the position.
Well maybe not. That was probably coachspeak, for that fact that Jenkins disappointed big-time.

Grudes (is it too early for potential nick-names?) can like the up'n'comers and still want depth at the position. Jenkins was a special teams liability; didn't play it. Does Brown? I'm wary of taking in-division cast offs (Deion! nnnoooooooooo!) though.

I'm still wondering why they aren't hammering OLine during all this rebuild. No way I feel comfortable there.
