I truly like DY as much as anyone. He was a great special teams player who began to regress some last year. We know what happened on offense. I'll be honest with everyone here. I shouldn't have included DY in the BBQ thread as a player to possibly re-sign from day one. Why?
In talking with some pundits in recent months, I was surprised to learn that his blocking skills began to erode. Haven't had the time to look at any videos (not too much exists from last season with him in the lineup), but these are the claims. Also, he never could master the art of blocking edge rushers effectively. That is the role of the H-back player. He's a FB only and didn't have the size that the H-back needs to take on bigger and more powerful edge rushers.
Also, there was consternation on my part to list him as a player likely to walk in the early days of that thread. Yes, it was dishonest and I didn't do the site any favors with that decision. Apologies. I very well knew what was likely to happen, but didn't want that thread to be laced with stern language in a back and forth fashion. That's my fault - it's totally on me.
After logging off in a bit and with an update in the BBQ thread, I will log off until Friday as a self imposed reprimand.

Can Kerridge fill that H-back gap role? Possibly. It's likely why these moves were made. DY couldn't do it. Just being honest.
Are we going back to the days when Donnie Warren, Clint Didier and gang when H-back ruled? Yes. Keep a watch on Niles Paul and Vernon Davis this season.
