Surprisingly, I saw almost no references to Pierre Garcon's return to DC – as I expected some fans to seize on the potential of Garcon having a big ‘revenge' game. As previously mentioned, the ‘returning player factor' is almost always overhyped and rarely ends up being a significant factor in NFL game outcomes.
Blatant homerism is usually found with ease on NFL fan forums. But the despair and negativity is rampant in San Francisco. Instead, we found a ton of snarky pessimism, doom, and gloom…

I have been a fan of the 49ers for about 40 years but they are a team in disarray. Possibly because of their location or because of their clueless owners they have let silicon valley types who never played the game make major decisions for them. We now have zero impact players, an inexperienced coach whose offense just went 20 plus possessions without a touchdown on what looks to me like a very poorly coached team that commits a lot of penalties. Washington will win easily. 1-15 this year 3-13 the next then time for a real coach not an inexperienced and way over rated semi-celebrity to 49er fans because of his last name.

After four straight close games, it'll be interesting to see how the Niners come out playing and how they do the entire game vs. a pretty good Redskins team when playing at home. In addition to whether or not Foster, Reid, and Juice play, I'll be interested in the following:
-Can Hoyer play a more consistent, quality game for 4 Qtrs.?
-Will Hyde have a better all-around game?
-How will the OL do against a good Redskins DL?
-Will the O sustain more drives to help keep the D off the field?
-Can the DL/pass rush get consistent pressure on Cousins?
-What adjustments will be made to do a better job of covering the RB out of the backfield (Chris Thompson is tough to deal with - hello R. Foster?)
-Will the secondary be more consistent?
-Will the D do a better job on 3rd Down to keep conversions down?
-Can the team cut way down on the penalties?
-If it's a close game, can the team find a way to get the win?
But the best part of Redskins Recon is the comedic relief one inevitably finds, sometimes driven by outlandish homerism, sometimes by immense pain and suffering…

I do think this week's game has all the makings of a trap game. Skins favored by double digits at home, coming off a bye week, against an opponent that's viewed as one of the worst teams in the league. Add in former besmirched OC, out to avenge his poor wronged father, and stick it to the owner who ran them both out of town. It's the perfect recipe for a shocking ‘Any Given Sunday' Redskins defeat.
But somehow, the 2017 season and this Redskins team feel different.
It may not be a blow out, dominant win. But my money is on Cousins, Gruden, and the Redskins taking care of business this week. With the surging Eagles, and the still dangerous Cowboys, this is a must win game.
