Cornerback DeAngelo Hall was the first starter the Redskins re-signed during an offseason in which many moves were made to the roster, proving the value and importance of retaining the team leader, who also stressed he wanted to be back after meeting new head coach Jay Gruden.

“I came up here and talked with him and the coaching staff,” Hall said. “Before I was leaving the building, I was like, 'I like these guys. We are gonna win a lot of games.’ I immediately called my agent and Bruce [Allen] to get something done.”

DeAngelo Hall Returns For Another Playoff Run

I believe that fans who may not be very familiar with Gruden are about to be absolutely thrilled. I haven't been this happy since the day we signed Garçon.

Release the Kraken!

I'm glad hall is happy. Pound for pound I think he's one of the best/most important 5 players on the team(Griffin, Garçon, Trent, and Morris being the other 4). He's a gambler at times, he's good for a dozen 15+ yard penalties a year as well, but he's who they call on to cover the other teams #1 every week for the most part and I think he does pretty good at what they ask him to do. It also seems that he's become a better tackler/hitter in the last couple seasons. Most players I notice usually give the new coach a positive endorsement during the first offseason though, so ill wait a while before I say whether or not I think they've all bought in. A change in coaching philosophy may take a full two seasons to completely make a switch(scheme, players, coaches, routines, ect...). Will he(coach Gruden) take the next man up approach if and when injuries and suspensions come about, or will he start to make excuses for why the team can't do certain things because they are missing player x,y, and z? Will he figure out how to get creative with a couple dynamic(c. patterson, d. sproles...) and or multi skilled players(mike vrabel, Brian Mitchell...) , and use them in mismatches and opportune times or will he be afraid to use those wild cards in fear of injury or failure? Those are things I think players like to see from their coach and helps keeps the moral high and opponents guessing. I hope hall isn't on a short list of players who are looking forward to working hard for their money this year, because for me the nfl is much more fun when the redskins are competitive, and I'm looking forward to seeing these guys handle winning well, and not being finger pointing and or excuse making underachievers.

Great post JLI and btw, welcome to the site  Redskins fans (and I don't exclude myself here) aren't always great at recognizing the steady, sure contributions of key vets. We tend to point to and focus unfairly on the one big play where a high profile player like Hall doesn't get it done. I've beaten on Hall quite a bit over his career for some of the numbskull mental errors he's made (mostly the penalties) but the truth is, he has generally done a great job in taking 'THE" challenging CB assignment every week. He doesn't get enough credit and it's refreshing to hear someone say so. I also agree that it will be interesting to watch how Gruden handles the inevitable challenges and bumps in the road he will encounter as the next Redskins head coach. I am more positive than I have been in a long while though, based on what I've read about him and seen so far as a 'the buck stops here' and personal accountability kind of a coach. We will see, but I like what I see and hear so far.

Great to have you on board
