Redskins @ Bucs Studs & Duds

Uh...Extreme. Just a note of curiosity here.

There are well-known, heavy use famous RBs in the NFL, Arian Foster, Marshawn Lynch, BenJarvis Green-Ellis, LeSean McCoy, Adrian Peterson,-workhorses, big name Fantasy Football favorites, the names people usually associate with premier, "elite" level Rbs-the ones opponents try to figure out how to stop.

The guys who get 20 or more carries a game because of their production.

The guys who score rushing TDs, break long 20+ yard runs-you know the kind I'm referring to.

Arian Foster-25.8 carries per game, 95 yards per game, 3.7 yards/carry, 4 TDs, 1 run of over 20 yards

Marshawn Lynch-23 carries per game, 105.8 yards per game, 4.6 yards/carry, 2 TDs, 1 run of over 20 yards

Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis-20.5 carries per game, 71.5 yards per game, 3.5 yards/carry, 2 TDs, 0 runs over 20 yards

LeSean McCoy-20.2 carries per game, 96 yards per game, 4.7 yards/carry, 1 TD, 4 runs of over 20 yards

Adrian Paterson-19.8 carries per game (close enough:)), 83 yards per game, 4.2 yards/carry, 2 TDs, 2 runs of over 20 yards.

Alfred Morris-20.5 carries per game, 94 yards per game, 4.6 yards/carry, 4 TDs-tied with Arian Foster for the lead among RBs, 3 carries of over 20 yards-tied with Reggie Bush for second behind Jamaal Charles, C.J. Spiller, and LeSean McCoy.

My question is this.

What is your definition of "noteworthy?"

Yeah - I really can't understand how it's possible to be unimpressed with Morris. Not like he had 1 good run yesterday - there were times he was just dominating out there. Extreme - I always appreciate the contrarian viewpoint, but I think you need to take another look. Morris is for real.

The whole defense deserves to be mentioned as Stud.

If they allow just one more 1st Down on the Bucs' last offensive drive - then neither RG3, nor Cundiff, get even a sniff of a chance for that game-winning drive !

I wasn't wrong. Alfred Morris up the middle for 2 doesn't impress me. He had one great run, I'll give him that. But take that one run away and he has what, 65 yards give or take?

Still not impressed. And excluding injuries obviously, I believe he should be number 3 on the depth chart, because he is inferior in talent to both Royster and Helu.

Trust me, when I think he's accomplished something noteworthy, I'll mention it. I don't mind eating crow, I relish in the opportunity. But so far, I feel I'm right about him. But I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he could just be a product of ****ty playcalling.

What are you smokin' dude?

Did you see the graphic they showed for rookie RB's first 4 games? He was up there with Faulk, Dickerson, and LT.

The guy has been great and there just is no denying it. I was dissappointed before the first game when I heard Morris was going to be the guy b/c like you, I think Helu is also very talented, but after watching the first 4 games I love what see in Morris and see why Shanny made him the guy.

"Take away that run" ...............and we lose the game.

I'll take a game-winning run, and a so-so average for the rest of his runs, over the alternative any day.

Thing is, you're actually incorrect about the rest of his stats as well. Because if you do take away that run, he is 20 attempts for 74 yards, for a 3.7 avg. Still pretty damn good.

And still the best day against the bucs run defense so far this season. It's pretty obvious to me the reason why Morris has a lot of short 2-3 yard runs: the oline is very inconsistent with opening up holes to run through. What's great about Morris is he turns a short loss into a 3 yard gain time and time again.

Ex, I wonder how unimpressed you were when Riggins would run for 1 or 2 yards early in a game? Then, as the game wore on he would begun to wear the defense down. There is nothing wrong with a 2 yard run, it sets up so much.

Speaking of sticking to the run...the Redskins did a MUCH better job of it this time. There was only one drive in the 4th quarter with about 6 or 7 minutes left that they went pass-pass-pass-punt, in which I was ready to have a coronary. The Bucs got the ball back and scored either to get to 19 or 22, I forget. Either way, if we'd had any kind of extended drive, I don't think they get the chance.

Morris played well, he ran hard and with TB knowing the Redskins were going to feature him.

Trent Wiliams played well gutting it out on one leg in the second half. Without Williams and a better performance from the interior OL on the pass rush, there would have been a lot less Griffin magic.

Fred Davis when called upon made a play every time he got his hands on the ball.

These guys all deserved a stud mention.

the defense has been bad in coverage through 4 weeks, but without the Hall interception those 7 points we ended up getting on that drive would not have been on the board.

people say Hall didn't deserve the pick because Kerrigan hit Freeman when he threw the ball, but Hall was in tight coverage and took the ball away from the WR to the inside.

you can kill a guy when he makes a mistake, but you have to credit him when he does something right.

to make a sarcastic comment about Hall making a pick that Carlos Rogers would have caught is uncalled for.

the catch was made with the WR right there on a bang-bang play, it was not like Hall jumped a short route and had no one near him and made an easy pick and run play.

An interesting tidbit I found on PFT:

Cam Newton’s touchdown record may only last a year. As a rookie in 2011, Newton set a new NFL record for touchdown runs by a quarterback in a season, with 14. But Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is on pace to top that this year, with four touchdowns in four games. Griffin, who threw for 323 yards and ran for 43 yards in leading his team to a 24-22 win in Tampa Bay on Sunday, is the best athlete ever to play the quarterback position, and it’s easy to see him continuing to average a touchdown a game for 16 games this season — but only if he stays healthy enough to play 16 games this season. Griffin is so confident in himself that he takes some reckless chances with his body when he runs up the middle, and sometimes he takes violent hits. Eventually, he’s going to need to learn that if the end zone is not in reach, he needs to get down, or else he’ll be spending more time on the sideline than in the end zone.

I had been refraining from overly gushing over Griff until I saw him on a game winning drive. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I am completely sold on RG3. Without a coach in his ear, he did what solid veterans still have difficulty doing, he drove us down for the game winning TD. I don't care if he breaks Newton's records...that's not important, what is important is how he makes those around him better. It was evident on that drive yesterday when he did not have the coach in his ear on that drive.

Oh yeah, I am not sure he is the most athletic, but he is one the most. I still think Vick is a step quicker but he's fragile, so....

Kerrigan played a solid game too!

Not sure how you're not impressed with Morris, Ex? I will admit I wasn't fully impressed against the Saints, but last week especially he showed an uncanny ability to make people miss. He's not Chris Johnson's speed, but he's fast enough, built like a tank and can make folks miss. And I effing LOVE the fact that the first guy who touches him NEVER tackles him.

Kid is impressing me. A lot.
I'll admit, I'm not as down on him as I was week 1, he's just not making me jump out of my seat like the rest of you seem to be doing. I mean, I get we've sucked bad for a long time, but I think the RG3 excitement is just rubbing off and making you guys get wet for everybody.

On a 1-10 scale, I had Morris at about a 5 after the Saints game. Now I have him about a 6. Most of you have had him at a 10+ from the start, and I just don't get why. It's like I said, he could just be the victim of a horrible gameplan, and that's what's pissing me off about him, but it's still his job to run the ball, and outside of the big one, I haven't been excited about a single thing he's done. I will admit that a lot of it is to do with the fact that the run up the gut is the offensive play I despise the most. It's boring, it rarely accomplishes anything other than killing momentum or a drive, and we use it at the absolute worst times.

But to me, the fact so many of you guys are gushing over a guy who hasn't scored a lot, who doesn't have a great average yards per game, simply baffles me. You guys are acting like he's rushing for 200 yards and 3 tds every game, you need to settle down, he seriously hasn't done squat to deserve the hype yet, and if he was doing the same thing for any other team, you'd be joking that team's fans for being so in love with him.

And Helu played 4 full games as the featured back. he had over 100 yards in 3 of them, and twice as many runs over 20 yards as some of you are suggesting Morris is phenomenal for doing. We put our best guy on the bench, then got him hurt for the year with idiocy. So yeah, I'm bitter. Morris is not better than Helu, and Helu did everything you want a back to do to keep his job and prove he deserves it, and he still got screwed. So I will have to see a lot more out of Morris before I consider anointing him like you've all done.

Doesn't score a lot? He leads the NFL in rushing TDs (tied with Arian Foster). You're just looking for reasons to hate on him now.

Ex, I like Helu and I was a Helu guy at the beginning of the season. I still would be ok starting him (if he weren't hurt) but you're getting really carried away here.

First of all, in his five starts, Helu's longest run from scrimmage was 28 yards. Morris has already topped that twice. Helu had four 20+ runs in those five games. Morris has had three in four games. I don't know where you get 'twice as much' but that's simply not the case.

In Helu's five starts, he averaged 4.0 yards a carry and scored two TDs on 106 carries.
In Morris's four starts, he's averaged 4.6 yards a carry and scored four TDs on 82 carries.

Honestly, you are the one acting like your guy is rushing for 200 yards and 3 TDs a game ...

Where Helu really shined was as a receiver out of the backfield. Given that Morris is proving to be a better pure runner it makes sense to have Morris as the every down back and Helu as the third down back. Sadly, we won't know that for sure until next year. I don't even know why we're talking about Morris vs. Helu honestly, seeing as it's as moot point anyway.

Is Morris the second coming of Terrell Davis? Probably not. But he's solid and consistent, breaks more long ones and scores a LOT more often than anyone else we have on the roster. And he had a good game against a really tough run defense yesterday. It's ok to say so. :)

Henry pretty much nailed it - but I will also add that Morris leads all rookies in rushing. He also is in pretty exclusive company - he joins Larry Brown, John Riggins, George Rogers, Earnest Byner and Terry Allen as the only Redskins backs since the league merger to open the season with four straight performances of 75-yards or more.

The Bucs had allowed 142 rushing yards coming into that game. Total! Morris nearly surpassed the entire total they had allowed all season!

Well, I'm allowed to have an opinion. My opinion just happens to be that he isn't as good as the hype he's receiving. If you all want to jump on me for it, then it's you that has the problem, not me.

Saying he is wonderful isn't a fact any more than me saying he's not wonderful is, so I'd appreciate it if I was entitled to have my own opinion without being run through the ringer by all you well seasoned elite football minds who are so absolute in every one of your assessments. Give me a break. The thread, just like the one last week, was intended to be added on to. ***removed*** We got here for no reason. Big shocker.

Ex, of course you are allowed to have an opinion. If you think Morris looks boring and, I don't know, the only reason for his numbers is that defenses key on our new awesome QB or something that's totally cool.

I'd have let this go with my initial posts about the guy but when you say stuff like 'he doesn't score' or 'Helu had twice as many big runs' I just can't. :)

Those aren't opinions. Those are facts. And you've been getting them wrong.

I just think if you are going to express an opinion contrary to what most of the board holds you probably shouldn't do that. But that's up to you.

5th in yards
Tied for 17th in yards per carry at 4.7
14th longest run of the year at 39 yards
Tied for 4th in number of 20+ yard carries
Tied for 1st in number of rushing TD's with foster and griffin
5th in yards/game
0 fumbles
Tied for 4th in rushing first downs with 19

I'm not saying I think he's the best RB ever but thats a pretty impressive start for a rookie drafted in the 6th round in my opinion. It's only 4 games, 4 games against 3 pretty bad teams, so who knows where he'll finish come January. I certainly understand the excitement around him right now though.
