Yeah unstrapping the seatbelt would be an adventure for sure. With all those people upside down and screaming. Then fighting to get out the side door walking on the ceiling. I'd be stuck on the plane lol. I'd have to crawl out.

I have a prosthetic but my right leg is so screwed up that it's hard to use but it's better since the VA did get me a knee replacement. This was the kind of thing I worried about though when we flew to Europe.

Kitties know when they hear the Blue Bloods theme song...time to log into the rack.

Well trying to go see a movie turned into an adventure that ended up with us just getting some food and going home.

Our theater is in the next town over and i saw that the highway was backed up so I took the scenic route. Well I hit a spot in cow country where there were 3 potholes all in the same area and I didn't have time to avoid them all so I just rolled over one of them at about 45mph.

Then a couple seconds later the road noise sounded different so I pulled over. Oops, I just blew out one of my almost 500 dollar a piece tires on a little 2in deep pothole. These tires are 265/30/20 so very low profile and super wide so when they are flat you can't really tell but the noise was louder and usually my car is totally quiet.

Luckily enough we were in the country so at the first house there we pulled into their driveway and the owner came out in the dark and ended up going around to 3-4 of his family members houses in the area to get everything to change my tire.

We had everything in my trunk but we didn't realize that my lugnuts had plastic caps on them so nothing was fitting so this guy ended up trying out all these tools until we figured it out. it was dark but he never gave up.

So if you have an Audi S5 or something similar and notice that there are black plastic caps covering the nuts, you might want to make sure you have something to pry them off because if you don't then you aren't going to be changing a tire. Those things didn't want to come off. We ended up using a long skinny pry bar because a screwdriver didn't work.

I can't believe it but we got about 2 inches of snow. The weather was saying that we might not get any.

I guess VA is getting a lot more than that though.

A week ago it was predicted to be a foot of snow over 15 hours. 3 days ago, it was supposed to be 7 inches. 2 days ago, 4 inches. Last night 3 inches. Now that it's the day, it was indeed 2 inches, over the course of 7 hours. Big woof.

I wish it had snowed harder. It would have meant I didn't have to come to work. And if I didn't have to come to work, I wouldn't have had to spend 20 minutes standing around people sick as dogs waiting for a couple of unused computers to get fixed. I've spent nearly 2 weeks getting over a cough that spread through the whole family, which I got from a customer as thanks for fixing their computer. If I get sick again, I know exactly who gave it to me. It makes me angry. Is it really so much to ask that if people are coughing and sniffling, they put off their unessential trip to the repair shop for a few days? Or at least make a slight effort to not cough all over my desk?

Super cloudy here, glad I have my Dish connected to the internet because my satellite signal is gone. I'm getting NFLN, tho...and it's Jayden Daniels Day!!!

Crazy Speeding in Brookeville -

I was walking in my driveway at 7 AM sharp Wednesday morning to get the paper. My house is uniquely positioned so that I can see both of the sharp curves on Market St from the house and the driveway. The new curve at the bottom of the hill near the bridge is more sharp than any other curve on Market St. The curve going uphill is also sharp and many crashes have occurred there as a result. Note that this is a relatively narrow two lane road with a double yellow which runs right through town.

I hear this loud roar and turn my head to the left and look downhill. I see two cars crossing the small bridge heading east towards me. But they're not following each other - instead one is in the normal east-bound lane and the other is in the oncoming lane on the opposite side of the double yellow. It's a black car passing a white car - or he's trying to pass but he's having a tough time. It appears the white car was speeding up deliberately due to the fact that he's being passed or trying to be passed in a no passing zone. Nonetheless, the black car was trying to overtake the white car as they crossed the small bridge heading east. As they met the fairly sharp curve, the black car was on the outside of the curve, still trying to overtake, while the white car was in the inside of the curve. The black car was unable to overtake the white car due to the curve and the fact that he was on the outside of the curve. So they were neck & neck as they continued to negotiate the curve.

When each vehicle finally finished with the curve and were now on a normal somewhat straight but sill gently curved part of Market St. heading up hill, the black car still had his throttle wide open and was still trying to pass. Again, the white car seemed to be driving faster than normal, almost as if they were racing - but he was probably just irritated. The black car finally began to overtake the white car in front of the Valley House and continued racing up the hill, finally beginning to move over to the correct side of the road as he was about to pass in front of me.

I deliberately walked out a few extra steps in my bathrobe so the perp would know his criminal act was being witnessed. You could almost hear the air rushing through the intake above the roar of the engine as he passed me. I would say he was going about 50 mph (speed limit is 25). I watched as he went up the hill, half-expecting him to go off the road across from the Heritage house where the next sharp curve was located, but he managed to stay on the road by crossing the double yellow again and cleverly hugging the inside of the pavement, even as he was driving on a blind curve - unable to see any oncoming traffic which might be coming down the hill.

I performed the sign of the cross and whispered a quick prayer for any westbound traffic which might be on the other side of the blind curve. He sped out of sight but I could tell from the sound of his engine he was going straight - down Market and towards Brighton Dam Rd. at very high speed.

So watch for your kids. Watch for your dogs. Watch for your cats. Watch for yourselves. Be careful pulling out. Be careful pulling in. In the future, watch out for an older-model black car commuting around 7 AM heading from west to east on Market St in Brookeville at high speed.

Good luck.

This post upsets me so much. Innocents lives could have easily been taken.

Watching college basketball I was reminded that the 2 best college players I have ever seen not only played at the same time they also faced eash other in the NCAA Tornament. That would be Bill Walton and David Thompson.

Weird that there was a bad wreck a few hours later a few miles away. I wonder if it was the same suicidal homicidal maniac?

Brookville, Olney, etc. used to be small MD towns with minimal traffic. Small stores, gas stations and sandwich shops. Same with Poolesville. Sad too see the craziness has exploded into these beautiful small niches of my home state.

Long story but my car got stolen here in Miami when I went to the DR for 10 days. It took 2 months to settle with the insurance company so I decided to give "Uber only" a shot for those two months. Saved me a shit ton of money (like 90%) every month. Plus I made 9k off of the insurance payout. I don't have a car anymore and I don't miss it. If I want to drive a car? I can rent a nice car.

My grocery store is a 5-minute walk from my house and the very nice downtown area of my town is also a 5-minute walk away which is full of restaurants and bars and shopping. I really don't need a car. I can also leverage Uber Eats or Instacart if I need to. I realize this is not an available option for people in the greater DMV metro area. I used to drive 35k to 40K miles per year when I lived there

I live on the northeast side of Atlanta. Rarely travel outside of a 5-mile radius. Gotta go over to Stone Mountain for weed. That's it. ;)

I just got back the reviews for my Children's Book Writing Workshop. It was the first time I taught it and I will admit to some imposter syndrome jitters. Kind of blown away by how much they loved and thought they got out of the class. I know spec fic much better than I know kiddie lit. In fact, I only have one published children's book under my belt.

Yayyy!

After I retired I drove an Uber for 4 years and often wondered if the cost for the customer was less than owning a car with all that goes with that. I mean I was taking inner city women to their job at McDonald's and judging from my pay their cost must have been 2 hours of work just to pay for 1/2 of the commute. I always felt badly for them but if you live in a city it's got to be less expensive to many.
