Random Thoughts

We're the Green Bay Packers of NFL messageboards.

It's because of the accident rate in parking lots. AAA and others have done studies stating you have a better view of the lane, so you don't pull out as another vehicle is coming by, or a pedestrian. They're not wrong in stating this, so it's not actually about time. When I was a first responder, I always backed in.... That being said, it also drives me crazy... people lack basic skills in tight maneuvering situations. Even with back up cameras, and they take three shots at it. I see people take more than one shot just pulling into a spot... Don't even get me started on parallel parking :aargh4::aargh4::aargh4:
I believe the study, but I have to believe hitting a parked car is nearly as possible as backing into cars driving in the lot. The exception is a big van or truck, I give those drivers a pass because it is difficult to see of oncoming traffic or pedestrians. But a soccer mom in an SUV, who are by far the worst offenders? They can see oncoming traffic just fine, we've been doing it this way for generations.

I've had a running argument with friends about this. They said nothing about it being safer. They just like to get in and take off with total disregard to the other drivers they have inconvenienced.

I admit it. I fell for the Coach Prime thing at the start of last year. I once spent a summer in Boulder, I played Frisbee and saw the Grateful Dead in that stadium. When they started out hot at the start of the year and everyone was talking about Colorado I got onboard and was recording each game and rooting for them. But then they started actling like they were Georgia while losing to every good team, and some not so good, and I said to myself "just shut the fuck up". Now I still record the games but now I root hard against them. I enjoyed BYU embarrassing Coach Prime.

Oh yeah, us too.

I'm so pissed. Our deal is the wife has the TV all day, as we eat dinner and a little after we watch something together. Around 8 she goes upstairs to read and I get the TV to watch all the sports I want. Now this is why I'm pissed. I usually stay up to around 11:30-12:00, to be honest I never checked. Now around 9:30 or 10 I get really tired and soon I am asleep, even if I had napped that afternoon. I am now losing my evenings, the best part of my day. So I may resort to drinking coffee before dinner.

For a week I was so happy that 2024 is ending. We had a really crappy year with regard to health, it's now all behind us and I'm glad to turn the page. But then I remembered 2024 gave us Jayden Daniels and impacted our lives. So there's that.

Tonight is gonna be noisy AF until 2 or 3am. Errybody has fireworks (except me) and my cats are gonna be freaking out for hours.

Yeah I always knew it was midnight as my neighbor went full bore on the fireworks. He has moved so maybe I'll get some damned sleep.

Our previous dogs hated loud bangs, the last 2 not at all. I took the earlier dogs down to the field, as they went through the gate single file a shot rang out from the woods below. They immediately turned around, never breaking formation as they stayed single file, and headed for the house. That image still cracks me up.

Oh, it'll start just before dark and last till long after midnight. And I've got a pretty busy day tomorrow.

It's New Year's. I'm here all day so let's stir some shit up.

All you people who have taken on the new rage of backing into a parking space can bite me. Sure there may be some study that claims it's safer but that's because drivers are morons. If you Soccer Mom can not see a pediestrian as you sit high in your SUV with a backup camera then you should probably be using Uber. What it means to me, and that's all that's important, is I have to wait while you stop, put it in reverse and negotiate the challenge of backing into a space with cars on both sides. It is common sense that it takes longer to back into a parking space surrounded by cars then it does to simply back out into a wide open parking lot as you have done your entire damned life.

Your method just takes longer. I'm so sick of waiting on your sorry ass as you attempt this manuver, often twice, until you get it right. At times I am forced to back up as this selfish person without a soul is trying to back into a space he/she had already passed, a space I was now sitting in front of. A space I thought was going to be mine before I saw the dreaded red lights, followed by the even more damning white ones. Sure it may be convenient to just get in and go when it's time to leave but it's very inconsiderate to everyone around you.

I dread this year. I hope I am wrong.

Having very recently spent a number of nights in the French Quarter and having ‘toured’ Bourbon Street often, I am deeply saddened by the events of this mornings events.

Holy crap I just realized I posted this rant earlier. How embarrassing, I thought it was on another board.

I just learned that the fireworks disaster in Hawaii started when they lit a "cake" which is a block a little smaller than a cinder block with 100 big bottle rockets that go off in succession. The very same thing happened at a farm party I was at years ago. The guy knew what he was doing, he was a licensed fireworks guy legally authorized to make his own fireworks and always put on a big show.

But he lit it when it was sitting upside down, just like in Hawaii. The first one shot down and turned the cake on its side, then 99 more rockets started firing into the crowd like a machine gun. After about 10 went off it was clear that everyone was out of the way and we were going to be OK. It was then that I started laughing harder than at any time in my life

Deleted the post. Wasn't trying to be political but not worth the time.

Also wondering if the guy, who was a highly decorated green beret and Trump supporter, whose rented Cybertruck blew up in front of Trump's Las Vegas hotel, was purely accidental. Yes it appears his trunk was full of gas tanks and fireworks..so that's really odd..but I can also see him going off to blow shit up while camping (like he had told people he was going to do, I think).

Not to dismiss him at all, but his apparent motives seems less clear than the ex Army IT guy in Lousiana.
You will want to be careful using any political references here I would think.
