How are those Bronny ROY bets looking? I assume no one here put any in, but if anyone did, sorry - but I assume IF that happened it was throw-away money. I just can't understand how people thought that was a good bet. The hype machine really works on people. The hard data gets ignored. The data was there to understand he would likely not work out. I understand some feeling, but for me, I would have bought a lottery ticket.

The way LeBron still talks (as below) - he is really carrying this whole thing forward. The ceiling is getting lower if they are being honest, I would think. I don't know how much maturation is expected into the 20s of an NBA player but I just don't think it's the amount for the gap we can seemingly easily perceive right now.

Bronny even making any NBA team is a joke.

My random take is Elvin Hayes is the forgotten sports hero in Washington DC. I can agrue that he was a better at what he did than John Rigginsm Art Monk and several other sports legends. When we secured tickets to the playoff games teens were not screaming about Wes, no what I literally heard was "I'm going to see the Big EEEE!".

The Daytona 500 is totally unwatchable.

It's already been postponed at least twice for several hours.

Kentucky Derby is a bucket list sporting event for me. I know nothing about horse racing. But I want to go for the spectacle. I don’t care at all about any other race. I just want to go to Churchill Downs for the derby.

About to start. Man it’s wet and muddy out there.

Horse names are so ridiculous. Thought the Metallica guy owns a horse named “sandman” and that’s appropriate.

Random Clippers thoughts - So what is it with these Clippers? Is it the owner, the "old" & often injured LA brothers, is Ty Lue vastly over rated & unable to confront his guys - has it just become a soft coach on a gravy train coaching an overly wealthy group who are really just pretty lazy & can't defend with any urgency? They consistently get a decent lead and then lose it quickly & easily.

The post game reasons are rinse & repeat every game lately. As for waiting the first 10 or 15 games to find their best combination, that's just poor coaching, surely.
Good coaches know very quickly who they've got & why they got em.

Sometimes I think there's no accountability..........

Rant over.

Thoughts & better answers than mine most welcome!!!!!

Well, I sure did get some answers to some degree, with today's ESPN story on Chris Paul. Sounds like the "old boys club", meaning NOT the players, didn't appreciate being questioned/challenged. I'm off the Clippers. They have a culture problem they're ok with.

Really good read (that ESPN article)

Some of the organizational dynamics in Sports - pretty fascinating how they unfold. I think one interesting takeaway is that when Steve Ballmer was out of MSFT, I bought some stock and told friends to do so as well. There's a reason for that. My big regret is not buying much, much more. I think it may have been like $40 / share or something?

He is not a good organizational leader. If he wants to hire someone to do that, and for him to disappear into the mist, so be it. Then judge on results? Sure. Otherwise... yikes.

Hey well done on your canny shares investment!

It's an interesting point SkinsNumberOne, not being a good organizational leader, but moreso to me, what you mention about him leaving them to it. It looks like the trickle down effect is real - I mean, is there any accountability in that setup?

It keeps being written that coach Lue is an excellent coach, and he signs a lucrative extension, but his Clippers have rarely made any playoffs.

Then you get a guy like Paul who rattles their cages, probably with some valid home truths, and he gets jettisoned. Imagine if his input was valued and there was a desire to become a winner - wouldn't you value that if you're a coach with a winning mentality? But no, cut him loose & it sends a message to the team that you don't change the status quo of this culture - we're ok, thanks very much.

Well, what would I know? External viewpoint & all that, but something is very mucked up in Clipperland.

The main reason I invested was because I thought Steve Ballmer was doing nothing on various cash cow products - and then Nadella comes in with a strategy, and I knew all of that value was going to get unlocked. Every now and then, I think I have a "near 100%" winner, that was one of them. I have been really lucky with a few of those - although right now, man, I have nada. Just waiting.

As for Paul - total agreement. That article was pretty bad for the Clippers - it didn't make Paul out to be some saint, it totally acknowledged the difficulties his personality can present, but it just sounded like those "difficulties" were navigable and could potentially EASILY be made into a constructive force. Like you said, it's easier said on the outside sometimes. Sometimes it's hard to get people's ear, and if you feel like you are being diminished, even if it's "meant well" - yes, it absolutely does not help.

I was just thinking, it just seems like Paul is not in the right place at the right time. Veteran team, veteran coaches - they think, probably almost from top to bottom, they know what they're doing. So be it.

Come to the Wiz. Super young team. Coach who... well I don't know. I think they'd be much more receptive to what CP brings to the table. I doubt he wants any of that in his last season!! However, if he wants a slate to write on and leave an imprint? Not bad, I would think.

Yes, nice points SNO - that wasn't something I'd thought of "not in the right place at the right time" but that seems pretty valid when you land with an established coaching team who don't really have the appetite for the new wine! The old is better, they say!

Afterthought, love the talent, passion & fight Wemby has,,,,,, and the way SAS are rising.... also love watching SGA & his crew with the way he (and they) go about it. Would not be unhappy if they go back to back. Will check out the Wiz. Cheers.

Total agreement. The Wizards aren't really worth watching, honestly. I am just stuck always rooting for Washington area teams since I am from the area and have been connected my whole life (went to college away, and then came back after that). CP3 actually was on the Wizards, I think his route going to the Clippers was Suns -> Wizards -> Warriors -> Clippers. The Wizards stop though was just as a part of the crazy Bradley Beal trade.

I say crazy because the Wizards got really lucky in that trade I think. Ishbia (sp?) is an idiot.

I like the same teams you listed for the same reasons, 100%. I am not all the way up-to-date on the NBA happenings though - I think it's interesting to see how the LeBron "era" is wrapping up, and also how the Golden State era is wrapping up as well. Is this now ushering in the SAS / Thunder / <someone else> era? Perhaps.

Pretty interesting to see it play out.

The Wizards have a lot of draft capital thanks to getting pretty lucky with some moves they made (including CP3). My problem is I still don't have belief in their management and coaches. I think the management has made moves that are generally getting thumbs up'd, but my problem is just like any draft move in any pro league, those initial reviews often sour over time. I guess we'll see.

Yes indeed, I think I'm getting more interested because of that. I tend to be looking at those two franchises tbh, to fill that vacating place, but when it comes to predictions I've been wrong more often than not!!
