Random Commanders Thoughts

I’m not a conspiracy theorist but…

Seems like a concerted effort among national media to shit on this team.
This has been going on since they had the opportunity to do so after Gibbs retired the first time

I thought it would change after Snyder sold the team

Though I will say, I’m not sure that it’s not just sortof the general way the nation media treats all teams who are not the Cowboys. Do they shit on the Vikings? I have no idea but if I was a Vikings fan I might think so.

Because controversy is more interest than platitudes.

The good news is that the play on the field will write the story in the end. Good or bad.

Plenty of national people were on our bandwagon after 2024, we punished them for believing so they’re back to the default until evidence otherwise emerges.

I realize this isn’t the point, but despite liking what Chig can bring here, I wouldn’t rank him in the top-10 of TE’s at all. And I see the upside in Gadsden given he was a rookie who flashed a few huge weeks so I get that (assuming he was mentioned as an example of a guy who shouldn’t be ranked over Chig)

True.

I did not lament that he wasn’t ranked in the Top 10.

At least those national people kept us off this list. During the Snyder we deserved to be on here

They're wrong though.

There's nothing more painful than when you have hope.

Andy would disagree.

So would RedWolf...

Another great movie quote...

For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

Being sincere I agree, but I also know that the Rivera's last year was a lot less painful then 2025 because I expected doom in Rivera's last year and was numb. Last year for at least half the season I kept hoping that the team would find their mojo again. So, having hope is a great thing but it makes disappointment sting more.

Embarrassingly, I had more hope. I thought the defensive roster was going to be better than it was. Much better. And Sam Howell would show more development.

2023 was a bit of a surprise for me, obviously not the gut punch 2025 was, but I had some hope for 2023.

2013 was worse though. At least last year Jayden still looked competent and capable in between injuries. But 2013 was when giant red alert signals came out about "hold up...RG3 is having some basic issues here...can he be a QB in the NFL?"

That year was so weird. RGIII suddenly couldn't even hand off the ball on a running play. He just whiffed on the most basic things. It was like an alien sucked away all his football experience and knowledge.

Rivera's 2025 was less painful because of the hope for next season. Rivera lost me in his QB carousel in 2022. He never got me back, so the entire season was spent looking forward to when the cleanout would happen.

2013 broke my heart. 2014 stomped on all the pieces.

I never in my life have seen a player who needed a sports psychologist more than 2013 RG3. He didn’t trust his body, but he also was just living in his head every play. Lost all his confidence and swagger. Looked lost and scared.

Edit: and I’ll add to this, he knew Kirk Cousins was clicking with the Shanahans and looking better than him in practice during his recovery, so the fear and paranoia was overwhelming despite the huge trade we made for him

I just think he was a self-serving guy and players like that tend not to do well in the long haul. I don't think he was particularly interested in what his coaches input or thoughts were, he wasn't interested in learning the position beyond what he could do on raw talent alone, and ultimately wasn't liked and supported by his teammates. All of those things are essential ingredients to success. When his raw ability was reduced to human levels by injury (and as Conn stated, he lost some of that confidence and swagger) it all came crashing down. He is still that same selfish guy and doesn't appear to have learned any humility since then.

I have long said the most disappointing player of my life was Lavar. For what he could have been and how his own dumbassness prevented him from getting there

Maybe it should be Griffin. I dunno. I just can’t get over the fact Lavar couldn’t get along with Gibbs which puts it over the edge for me

But damn, what a waste with Griffin.

Oh man it is probably Lavar for me too. Had all the athleticism & physical tools you could ask for but none of the discipline and he made it a point to blame everyone but himself when his lack of discipline was exposed on the field.

Runner up might be Michael Westbrook because looking back at that time period he really seemed to be the physical prototype of the new generation of WR's but everything else about him was a disaster.

I'd add Heath Shuler to the list for me. Norv Turner who had been labeled an offensive and somewhat QB guru was signed away from Dallas and he had his pick of (supposedly) really good QB's. There were high expectations for both Turner and Shuler and a new beginning for the Redskins. Shuler sucked balls after being drafted 3rd.
