It feels like it will be hard to separate politics from the team soon.

Apologies if I missed someone else commenting on this.

Nothing will come of it because the nail in the team name's coffin was Nike pulling their Redskins gear. I don't see them ever selling it again, so everything else is noise. As with a lot of politics, I'm sure this is more about making noise than actually accomplishing any goal, so I don't expect any speed bumps for the stadium.

Soon? The conjoining of the team and politics began in 2020.
There's an interesting discussion here about social pressure/changes in sociological philosophy versus politics. For instance, when did suffrage or abolitition move from a social movement into a political one. Given Jefferson's desire to include anti-slavery verbiage into the Declaration of Independenc and the fact that he was forced to remove it by the Southern colonies I suppose politics may always be a factor. But even though I think it could be a fun discussion, this is probably the wrong place for it. I think we'd too quickly slide into "us" vs. "them" and stir up too much bad blood.

Twitter, somewhat surprisingly, took a very dominate response against Adam Schefter’s framing that the ‘old name of the Redskins is considered offensive to Native Americans‘.

I’d be interested in hearing about the tone of the response on the other platform.

Largely negative. Not so much against the name change, but against Trump himself inserting himself where he doesn't belong and the potential of him using the name conversation to divert attention from his Epstein issues.

Edit: Because I scrolled down further and read more.

I was not speaking about or posting about the President. Those reactions are simple to expect no matter the topic. I was only interested in the responses regarding the part that I referenced in soft quotes.

I was pleasantly surprised that the vast majority of comments took exception to that framing.

Probably the most interesting thing is that I see no threads. Almost all of the posts are one-offs. Nothing that's generating a conversation or gaining traction.

This is a political post. Let’s make it the last one.

Here or elsewhere? It’s early here so most active users aren’t at work yet. 😉

I mean, he was asked about it. He responded.
I then saw where Jason Buck, a former player for us who says he is Native American, said he was going to make a plea to the President, ...

A day before Sunday's post, Jason Buck, a now-retired defensive lineman who played on the Washington team in the 1990s, told TMZ he would "give anything" to meet with Mr. Trump to discuss changing the Commanders' name back.

maybe that spurred on his further comments, I dont know.

The top 30 or so replies on any big tweet are now bot accounts with blue checks farming engagement these days, so unless you have a zillion fake accounts blocked it’s likely you only saw a few actual fan responses unfortunately. I still use it for other reasons but that platform is a real mess
