A few years ago when the team picked up Jared Patterson his parents were interviewed - huge skins fans. All the logos on skins items were blurred out on TV. I think it was NBC 4 that did this .

He's a click baiter only slightly better than Grant Paulsen and Chris Russell imho.
 
Anyone else remember the ‘83 Super Bowl between the C… and Dolphins or the ‘84 one between the C… and the Raiders?

 
Look. I can understand the mindset that because ‘Redskins’ might be offensive to some, the franchise decided to move forward with something else. I don’t agree with it, but I get it.

But this effort to erase the name from history is absurd. I’m not a big ‘boycott’ kind of a guy, but wish we could figure out a constructive way to counter this kind of stuff…

This is one thing I hope this ownership group takes up. They need to force the NFL to not hide the past history. The team should be known as the Redskins until the name was changed. This idea of faking pictures and names to appease people is stupid. Even if you think the name was offensive, then erasing it does nothing for those who were hurt by this. It is just trying to pretend that you never offended in the first place.

As Chris alluded to, this is going beyond football in some cases. But your history is your history, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Erasing it doesn’t change that it happened. If the NFL actually cared about Native Americans they would work with them and ask them how they felt about this, but they don’t care. They also wouldn’t like the answer they got back, but we all know that too. This is about what the NFL think appeals to advertisers and not customers, and they think this will not offend the people that matter to them in this instance. Twitter reactions will be from people who never watch the game and will bully advertisers, so they choose this route instead.

I like his podcast with Mitch Tischler. It's generally entertaining. He IS plugged in from a beat reporter perspective.

He has spent too much time with BMitch. Who is slowly morphing into Doc Walker, and that's not a good thing.

Chris Russell has to be the biggest dope on the airwaves. I'm not sure how he continues to get jobs.

Our sports radio scene is so lowest-common-denominator. It's appalling.
 
I’m not referencing his podcast (which I don’t listen to) but purely commenting on his social media posts. He enjoys pulling the wings off flies. He does a weird thing with his voice where it sounds like he’s trying to make it more deep and macho than maybe it is. One of the reasons I don’t listen to him but maybe that’s just my weirdness…

Well, he did say that he's a simple guy, he likes steaks and missionary. Maybe he is trying to make himself more macho....
 
Nothing against the man - we don’t know any of these guys really. He’s just not my preferred beat guy.
 
Again, I think the history of losing under Snyder and all of the outrageous off the field actions of executives, coaches and players has the media/reporters in a subconscious anti-team bias.

Anytime there is a move these guys are always talking about things not working out in the past with X or Y move, etc.

Most of them are too young to remember any of the Super Bowls and their experience with winning organizations is likewise limited.
 
As long as the Chiefs and their fans wear headdresses, bang the war drum, chant and do the chop, I can't buy into the whole "Anything Native is offensive" and it can't be used narrative.
Especially when you don't see any pressure being applied to them nationally in the media.

As we all know, we had Chief Zee , a marching band and Hail to the Redskins. We were way classier about it.

Just a bunch of bunk......

If they cared about us, they'd do something to help the destitute areas (those that would accept it) and be meaningful with their actions, rather than continuing to pointlessly virtue signal to non-indigenous people how good they are.

On the other hand, they were putting @ mentions in the tweet, so they had to use the current handles to tag the right team. They can't say Washington Redskins for that usage...no matter how stupid their efforts to hide the old logo are.

I'm always amused by people doing things to appease people that actually don't care about them and won't be engaging in any meaningful way with the business. They gain no new followers for doing so, and drive off the ones they have. But hey, they still rake in enough to not actually care about that, so they still have inertia on their side regardless.

I always felt that I wasn't in position to judge the harm of the name Redskins, but the reason that I supported it was because the vast majority of Native Americans asked were either supportive or ambivalent. Both polls that looked into it basically were 90+% in favor of the name. More, when I looked at the historical antecedents like Oklahoma meaning land of the red-skinned people and how our logo was designed by Native Americans, I thought the name was not problematic.

That's not to say it's a simple question. One problem in analyzing this situation is that the Native People's are not a homogenous group and so for some maybe the name was harmful or their history with it was harmful while for most it was not. More problematically, in some ways the argument about the name Redskins was very racist. It boiled down to all Native Americans look/think the same and we don't have to ask because we know what's good for them. Now, I've seen in recent years people try to tell me as a Jew with holocaust surviving relatives what is or isn't antisemetic and what and what does not stink of Holocaust-thought. I find that galling. They don't have the right to speak for me and I never gave them permission to intuit my feelings. So while I appreciate their empathy I am frustrated by their condescension and despise their dismissals when real wrongs are in play.

In any case, this is not about me except in the sense that I was a fan for decades of a team with a specific name and I would never have supported such a team if I understood that name to be hateful, demeaning, or mocking. Every time I or any of us sang Hail to the Redskins it was an honorific and in praise of an ideal. So, I think getting rid of the name was both a mistake and unnecessary.

I don't think we can or will go back to the name. I also think whitewashing history is really dangerous and awful. If you did believe that "Redskins" was a pejorative then you need to drive discussions and debate to educate. Pretending a problem doesn't exist and never existed does nothing except allow the mold to spread.
