Random Commanders Thoughts

At this point, are your eyes turning towards the draft, free agency, or positional coaching vacancies? What has your attention?

You have to turn to all 3 at once. Right or wrong, it’s taken us quite awhile to find a HC and to some extent we are behind the curve. Free agency will be upon us in the blink of an eye and the draft shortly thereafter.

But the biggest priority has to be a comprehensive eval of our current roster. I don’t believe Adam Peters who said yesterday they haven’t discussed QB, he’s just being coy. I suspect that both Peters and Quinn have already looked at our roster in depth and of course I am sure that Shen has been focused on that as well since his hire.

But taking our roster evals and determining the best approach and targets in free agency and the draft has to be a huge priority.

Peters has been meeting with the 49ers college scouts for the past six months and ditto for the upcoming free agents.

I am confident he can work with Quinn and the coordinators to put an overall strategy in place in time.

To me it’s more difficult to find all of the assistants because of the timing and availability issues.

It appears Mayo, Pierce and MacDonald are retaining a number of coaches from the previous regimes, although I don’t recommend doing that here 😫

I wonder to what degree he was allowed to take his homework with him. All that analysis might be considered the intellectual property of the 49ers.

I look at positional coaches and FA-Draft through different prisms. Positional coaches will be primarily the bailiwick of Quinn and his DCs. FA-Draft will be primarily Peters and his front office staff, taking into account the aligned vision established between GM and HC.

Agreed. DQ no doubt has the contacts and his coordinators as well to round out the staff.

And while I also agree Peters wasn't allowed to take any proprietary data or reports from SF, he was in the meetings, probably ran a number of them and no doubt has a short list in his mind about players coming out at some key positions for those 5 picks in the first 100 selections.

No doubt he kept Martin Mayhew to help collate the information Washington has already with that knowledge he is bringing from SF.

The fact Peters kept Mayhew in my mind says he doesn't hold him responsible for a lot of the BS that went on here.

What we don't know is whether over time Ron bucked his scouts and took a guy like Emmanuel Forbes much higher than Mayhew or the others were recommending based upon his own 'feel' for the player, etc.

Ron definitely did that with Chase Young. He came out before the draft and basically said they didn't look at any other players to take at #2.

That kind of tunnel vision is corrosive.

If he didn't have Patrick Mahomes, do you think perhaps Andy Reid would have taken Herbert there? ;)

Peters has never been a GM before. Harris doesn't have a track record in the NFL.

So what she is saying is the truth - NO ONE knows what these guys are going to do.

If this was Bobby Beathard back in the day a trade BACK to pick up extra picks would be all but guaranteed.

If we had an offensive head coach like Jim Harbaugh then drafting a quarterback at #2 would almost be guaranteed.

This group we now have is a complete question mark when it comes to personnel.

"Coach, what do think your chances are in the 2nd half?"

"Well, I'll tell ya.....after getting together and discussing what happened in the first half, we feel, our best chance, is when the game ends if we have scored more points than they have, we should get the W. That's our focus!"

"uh....Thank you coach"

Don't forget to add in a picture of Erin Andrews on the sideline asking these questions to the coach in a sequined sweater and black jacket looking like she is heading to a nightclub :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Erasing history a little bit at a time. Nice placement to hide the logo.

Bastards.

Has anyone been to Canton lately? Have they changed 'Redskins' to 'Commanders' or 'Washington' on the plaques?

An example of how insightful the local media can be. LOL

Did I miss Nicki being named assistant GM or something? Why is JP referencing her in a tweet? Btw, I was seriously disappointed in JP's appearance on Galdi's podcast. Dude came across uninformed, pressed a false narrative, and was kindof a schmuck. I like JP. That interview from a couple days ago was a bad look for my guy.

I wonder to what degree he was allowed to take his homework with him. All that analysis might be considered the intellectual property of the 49ers.
If he was remotely intelligent, and I imagine he was, he would have saved off all of his notes and working papers and brought them with him.

He wouldn't have access to what is probably terabytes of film cutups and other things which reside on the 49ers servers. But any notes he took are fair game for him to take with him.

JP is a guy that seemingly has enough Snyder fatigue that he is unable to get up for or be optimistic about anything this team does, even with the new owners and front office/coaches.

Brian Mitchell is still 'gotta prove it to me' in regards to the changes but he talks more on the side of discussing how things can work out instead of how things are all but certain to end up in the crapper.

Maybe JP should start covering the Wizards to get perspective :biggrin-new: :biggrin-new:
