Offense was great. Defense awful. Refs screwed us repeatedly, calling things one way for us and the other for the Eagles.

Our defense yesterday made me miss the stout defenses of Jim Haslett.

Including late in the game yesterday on that Dotson catch. Even before we saw the view of the ball hitting the ground, the replays showed the ball disappear making it nearly impossible to overturn. Yet on the Smith catch, everyone on the sideline signaled incomplete. Your whole freaking sideline. It was right in front of you. You had a better look than the ref.

The whole of the circumstances between the Smith drop and the Dotson play stink of high heaven regardless of Rivera’s incompetence.

Why didn’t the all powerful New York brain trust step in on Smith’s obvious no catch?

After not one but two officials ruled Dotson’s play a catch, evidenced by one signaling 1st down and other directing the chains to be moved, New York overruled the call on the field by changing it to incomplete. Whatever the call on the field was never going to be overturned.

To me, the only thing that the NFL takes seriously is making money.
 
This is a joke. Ron Rivera over the past 3-4 years has burned timeouts repeatedly due to the inability to line up and get plays off on time and has thrown the challenge flag on plays where there was no CLEAR evidence to overturn them.

So, his commentary about timeouts and challenges after the Eagles game is strictly Ron seeking cover for his own inability to react in the moment.

He stands there mum on the sidelines each week and it is apparent that does not mean he is quietly thinking the long game the way Reid or othersee successful coaches are about game strategy, etc., he is merely standing there picking up a paycheck watching the game as the fans are.

He knows he is gone at the end of the year and he is playing out the string to pick up the remainder of $$.

Eric Bieniemy seems to be the only coach that has any energy or get up and go and that's because he sees his NFL future ahead of him rather than in the rear view mirror as Rivera, Del Rio and the rest of the Carolina mafia does.

This guy wants to win to impress the new owners and continue as OC and potentially move to HC down the road.

But he's the only guy I see from training camp onward that has any fire in his belly.

Plain and simple - the coaching staff has largely checked out on their own players and isn't providing the the type of leadership you would expect of professionals in this sport.

The Eagles ran a hurry-up play after Smith's catch, concerned that there might be a challenge over it. There were only seconds between the ball being spotted and the next snap—no time for anyone else to be involved.

Conversely, instead of running something, anything, quickly after the play to Dotson, Washington called Time-out which gave everyone a chance to look at things.

The thing I don't understand is why NY was involved in the Dotson call at all. It happened with 2:21 left in the game so before the 2-minute warning and outside the timeframe I thought reviews were to go to NY.
 
It was not a Washington time out that stopped the clock but an injury to Slay, wasn’t it?

If anything New York could have/should have left the call on the field alone and called for a review if they were so inclined. The catch would have stood as there would have been no indisputable evidence that it was wrong. Just a weird situation all around.
 
You are correct. I saw the timeout listed in the play-by-play and thought that meant we had taken one but it was a reference to the charged timeout for losing the challenge. My bad.

Still, there was a lot of time after the play to Dotson where there wasn't on the play to Smith.
 
I saw where Ron said NY was involved in the Dotson catch, but if that was true, Rivera shouldn’t have been allowed to challenge it. The expedited replay is used to speed up the game and not take the 2 minutes for a replay. So why did Ron challenge it if NY ruled and why was that allowed? That’s the foolish part to me.

Also, why can’t any of the Commanders defensive players learn to go down after a controversial play where the other team is hurrying to get a snap off? I’m not saying Slay wasn’t hurt, but can’t someone on this team fake a cramp? Do anything to stop the game while they get a look? This is what smart teams would do. This team is not smart.

I get that, I do. I just prefer to believe that if the roles were reversed NY would have found a way to intercede. 😉
 
Yeah, but what in any of the replays was clear and obvious enough to force New York to intercede and change the call on the field. That's almost a perfect example of whatever was called on the field must stand. Besides, it was ten times closer to looking like a completed catch than a drop from every angle they showed on TV. Even the one where it looked like the ball may have touched the field didn't show the ball out of Dotson's control.

Additionally, whoever runs the video boards needs to get on their game. There has to be a way for that replay to be up on the board very quickly, as it was on the Fox broadcast seconds after the play happened.

ultimately Ron needs to be able to read the room, and he cant. It's been proven on every level of the job. 15 people on the SIDELINES are sayin incomplete, not even just the DBs on the field. Smith and Hurts are rushing to get the offense down the field because THEY know it was questionable at best. Its 4th and 4 from mid field and you have a 7 point lead in the 3rd quarter of an absolute dog fight. There likely will not be a more pivotal time to challenge a play. On top of that, say you don't want to risk the challenge, call a time out to get a better look at it, i BELIEVE if you throw the challenge flag after calling a timeout, you don't lose both. Even if that is confirmed a catch, the time out likeyl lets you re-group after a big play.
 
I have watched several Eagles games this year. They get all the calls as does Kansas City.

It comes with going to the Super Bowl and being a 'darling' franchise the league wants to see be successful.

it's going to be awhile before the stench of Snyder is gone to the degree that Washington is simply one of 32 teams in the NFL and treated as such.

Washington is down there where Raiders used to be when Al Davis was in charge after the lawsuit, the NFL did it's best to marginalize and penalize the Raiders organization.
 
I hear they're helping Chase & Montez load their Pods.

Well, Montez is. Chase is mostly watching.
 
Did Tuesday's moves impact your enthusiasm for the rest of this season? Are you likely to watch more, less, or the same?

Honestly, for me, it's probably about the same. I won't not watch, but after the Giants and Bears I figured it was a lost season. Seeing 3-5 confirmed it. So, I'll watch but I don't expect anything tremendous. Sadly, because we had such a bad draft I can't get excited about the pups getting their chance though chances are I will. I do want to see Howell continue to grow as a QB. I would love if Paul proved himself or if Jones proved his preseason flashes were the real thing, but generally, I'm not excited.

Having said that, I don't think the trades moved my needle. I think that tank had already been all but emptied.
