Random Commanders Thoughts

Arrested is arrested. I hope the team’s #1 cheerleader is kept in his current role.

I just read that we have the 7th lowest payroll on the offensive line. That's not necessarily bad except for when you realize that 3/5s of our starters are free agents. Well, that suggests our cap hit isn't low because we've got a bunch of guys on rookie contracts. In fact, we know that this team hasn't been investing much draft capitol at all in the o-line. So, they've been cheap during free agency and cheap in the draft.

No wonder our line has gone to hell.

What is concerning for the future here is that neither Cosmi nor Chris Paul, although listed as starters, have experience at their current positions in the NFL.

These guys are complete question marks.

Gates to me was a bargain basement type signing that teams usually make during the season due to injury. To sign this guy the moment free agency opened (or close to it) was a real head scratcher.

Again, Wylie was signed after a great run in the 2022 postseason where he played at a much higher level than he had during the regular season.

The team was gambling that at 27 Wylie was elevating his game at RT.

It appears now it was a nice run, but one that was not necessarily going to be repeated.

Stromberg to me was a project player, how we took him that high as a #3, was the OPPOSITE of a value pick.

Agree except it’s way too early to label Stromberg a project. With the caveat that draft projections are just that and can frequently be wrong, he was drafted just about where most talent evaluators had him going ((and later than some had him rated). We have seen before that giving up on OL youngsters early (as many did with Morgan Moses) looks knee-jerk a few years down the road. I have no problem with the Stromberg pick - it’s that we could’ve grabbed an impact lineman with the first or second pick or both and elected not to. And free agency has been largely a joke.

I am not an NFL scout, but the pre-draft ratings I read on Stromberg projected him to the late 4th, early 5th round.

To me that borders on project/developmental territory.

What seems clear so far though is Stromberg does not seem able to give Gates a push at center, and that is concerning given that Gates has missed most of the past 2 seasons and was never a top rated player at his position to begin with. I question whether a guy that is 6'4 to 6'5 is going to gain the necessary leverage to be effective inside at OC going against the better DTs in the NFL, even if he stays healthy. The Giants evidently didn't think much of his recovery as he was not resigned and they went into the draft to find a future starter in Round 2.

One observation I read about the Washington line was that the team is essentially playing with four guards and one tackle (Leno).

That's not a healthy 5 across evaluation in the early going.

Game day attire. He said he wears it because he feels it and wants to be him. Gotta love it

WASHINGTON, D.C. - 50 Cent‘s Sire Spirits has partnered with the Washington Commanders as the company’s NFL empire continues to grow.
The two parties announced a multi-year deal on Monday (August 21), which will see Sire’s Branson Cognac become the official cognac of the Washington Commanders and Le Chemin Du Roi becoming the team’s official champagne.

It's amazing how as soon as Snyder walked out the door a LOT of people wanted to go back into the room :eclipsee-victoria:

I'm gonna die laughing if 50 starts wearing Redskins gear. He's the kind of dude who would do it, too

Negligence that we weren’t in on him for a 7th round pick….

While I tend to agree the cost is cheap, the guy must be a bust I’d they are only getting a 7th rounder.

I wonder if that stupid large contract for Murray has anything to do with it.

Maybe… but a 7th round pick for a guy who was top 10 in his draft is nothing. Lately we’ve been hitting on our 7s so that’s not lost on me, but as concerned we all are at LB, and this guy has the skill set to be a prototype buffalo nickle with the ability to cover and rush the passer is crazy to me

How do we know we weren’t ‘in on him’?

I'd say our truck record is a good indicator of that.

We never seem to be mentioned when it comes to good trades; always just the signings like haynesworthless and such
