Random Commanders Thoughts

So I listened to a few sound bites out of EB's presser today.

The idea that he hasn't gotten a HC job in this league because he doesn't interview well is BS.

Agree 100% Neo. I think the sooner they get Rivera the hell out of Ashburn the better. If they did it tomorrow and handed the reigns over to Bienemy, I think I'd be okay with it. It's not that he has proven himself or is necessarily ready for it. But at least he's got the fire to win. I see nothing like that in Rivera.

Is there a chance Ron is panicking and now doing all the wrong things due to nerves?

Eric isn't gunning for his job per say, but we all know that this role could easily lead to Ron's job.

RIvera has always been clumsy with his words, and unable to consider the consequences of what he is saying prior to saying it. What head coach blurts out 'We can be eliminated today?' after a game with playoff implications. Even if you DON'T know the answer to that question, which trust me, is bad enough... to actually say it out loud and letting everyone know that you just lost a game and had no idea it might end your season - it's just insane for someone at that level of responsibility not to have the situational awareness not to say it.

Just like getting asked about the new OC you brought in. It was a leading question, but most media questions ARE leading questions. You have to actually be smart enough and savvy enough to a) know that you don't have to answer every question posed, and b) to know what kind of answers are going to stir controversy. He wasn't able to do either of those and this is just the latest instance.

Ron Rivera continues to suffer from DMS (diarrhea of the mouth syndrome). He allowed a question about the concerns of a few delicate souls to become a national story.

I wonder how Ron Rivera the football player would have responded. I wonder how Buddy Ryan would have responded. I wonder how Bill Belichick would have responded.

Why Rivera answers these questions is a mystery to me. What's inside the house should stay there. There's no reason to confirm that a few players that are used to Club Sunshine are all of a sudden being asked to rep the same play 4 or 5 times because they can't line up in reasonable time and order and that's causing them some heartburn :bigcry:

With the prepared statement. Hope Harris and company are watching because there will plenty more **** ups from Ron to come…

Nothing says sincerity like reading from a prepared statement.

Damnit, I really liked Ron too. I thought he was a hard-nosed no nonsense coach. Now it just seems he is a corporate hack

I’m not a fan of these kinds of questions from beat reporters either. What possible motivation do you have other than to stir the pot or try and get a coach to say something controversial and divisive? A little disappointing this is the best our media folks can do but I guess they’ve had lots of practice doing it for years and it’s going to continue until there’s something truly positive to talk about.

I get it. They’re media trying to create storylines, but for me the questions raised yesterday were a little seedy and unnecessary.

Nicki Jahvbala broached the subject yesterday. I appreciate her work but it is in her employers DNA to seek negativity about the organization. Ben Standig strikes me as a fairly negative and a bleeding heart type. I found it interesting today that when Rivera asked him a direct question, Ben basically pissed himself.

The media in general, of course, is looking for stories but the coaches also use the media to send messages. Rivera created this circus by not astutely tempering the question. He gave a monologue answer that not only added to the question but elevated it.

I agree with all of that Chris. Ultimately Rivera has control over what he answers and what he doesn’t and obviously for what comes flying out of his mouth.

There is a pretty wide consideration by many in the media that Rivera was ‘sending a message’ to Bienemy yesterday or that is was directed at the players who had/have concerns.

It could be true, but if it is…what kind of chicken shit ‘leadership’ is that? In my mind, the same kind that leaned on a prepared statement today.

Sheehan’s show this morning on the latest Rivera gaffe, especially when it comes to his relationship with Jason Wright (and how that may have played into his comments) was pretty interesting…

How so?
