I was just talking about this with someone this morning. The only way they can bring him back is if he makes a big run in the playoffs. Like NFC Championship type run where he plays well. Otherwise, they have to move on. The out in the contract is the most convenient out you will ever get. Even if he restructured, I expect the money will be guaranteed. So getting out will never be this good.

Not like there’s not a large volume of evidence as to who Wentz is. We’re his 3rd team in 3 seasons and he has not wowed to say the least.

If I'm being completely honest with myself...

I thought the Wentz train had passed, but lets just have that conversation. What if we win the next 2 and the offense looks closer to Week 1 / Week 2 than it has over the last 10 games? Let's then say we travel to Minnesota and beat them somewhat comfortably. Yes, these are long shots because we've got ZERO reason to believe this is anywhere near likely.

Now lets look at what QBs may be available in the offseason?

Brady is likely 1a / 1b / 1c in Vegas now that Carr is all but out and Stidham is their current starter. Josh McDaniels is the HC so the link is more than obvious.
Garoppolo is interesting because I think this team is much closer than I thought we would be coming into the season. I was wrong, as he likely would have been a major upgrade over what we ended up having
Jones? I dont know, young but is he any 'better' than what we have?
Lamar Jackson aint leavin Baltimore....
Mike White might be worth a look, but does someone offer him AT LEAST as much as we're paying Wentz?? Probably
Baker Mayfield is a very interesting thought though. He's shown the last couple weeks what he can do when he's invested. Maybe his mentality is changed? Maybe he's out of the shadows of playing in Cleveland? Makes you wonder if he'd want to enter a new shadow of QB purgatory in Washington....
Derek Carr is now on the market, and coming into this season I would have been all over it, but WTF happened in Vegas? Who the hell knows but it doesn't instill confidence.


Looking at the rest of those names it's a bunch of "meh" If we make a run and were to win a playoff game, you've now found yourself picking AT BEST 20th in the draft. It means the conversation of what's out there / vs what you've got / vs what he's done becomes a lot more involved than it is today.

Not advocating bringing him back... just trying to keep an open mind to all possible scenarios.

I’d be shocked too Mike but stranger things have happened in this league.
He’s done nothing yet so let’s not act like it’s written in stone that he’s here next year.
If Heinicke led the team to an NFC title game( which the odds of that would be like me getting named GM), you’d want him back, right?

If, sure. But, I don't think any QB on this roster will win enough to even get us to the playoffs.

Maybe I'm just not feeling this any longer. The coaches are proving week after week they don't know how to calls games or how to use players and it's us who are suffering the most.

Wentz has never done it in his career before, so I'm not expecting him to come in and be anything but what Taylor is with a higher contract. But, if he can do it, I'd be interested in discussing bringing him back.

The ONLY way I entertain bringing Wentz back is if the cause of why we're winning (if it happens) is because of him... not because of 'hiding' him.

Heinicke has been largely hidden over the winning 'streak' to get us back into contention. The defense has been the catalyst. Threw this little table together to get averages in wins vs losses and found this:

Offensive production in Wins vs Losses is only 3 points per game.

Defensive.... 10 points per game.

The defense getting better is the difference... it's as simple as that.

If Wentz can't flip that narrative, and get to the point where the team is winning because of offensive production... hell no you don't bring him back, because he aint the 'reason' we win. Even if we win these next two games, but the offense maintains... bye Carson.

I think Daniel Jones is better than either Wentz or Heinicke plus the team couldn’t lose to him consistently. Double bonus.

I don’t expect the NYG to let him walk though.

I don't want you guys to take me wrong here.

I don't expect to go on some magical run with Wentz as Qb. But we've all seen crazy things happen when lower seeds get in the playoffs.

To me, they are wanting Wentz to take this offense from 17-20 points a game to 24-28. If that were to happen,don't you think that would change the fortunes of the current version of this team?
They are no 85 Bears on defense but we've rarely seen this defense get to work with a lead. That might change some things,don't you think?

Who knows...we may be down 10 at the half this weekend and all this hypothetical was just an exercise or it might be a change that results in something tangible/positive.

Guess we'll see.....

Wentz is who he is until he proves otherwise. He offers some promise but not enough for me to have any real confidence or positive expectations.

Rivera & Co brought in 3 vets this offseason to shore up the offense. Wentz, Norwell and Turner. Not exactly a resume highlight.

Nice ... been thinking I would do a stat table like that all year ... glad I waited.

Couple quick hits: We scored 12 against Da Bears, not 7. Five whole points!

Noticed that the NYG tie game is recorded as a loss. I realize it's just a function of a limited spreadsheet ... and agree that it certainly felt that way at the time. Be interesting, though, if that half-game ended up being the difference in a playoff season.
