Random Commanders Thoughts

C'mon. The QB grudge game between the Colts and Commanders is going to feature Heinicke and Ehlinger?

Amazing how other teams are fast to try new players when things aren't going well.

Seems as if here in Washington the team has to ride every contract and every trade/draft pick out to its end to determine the the taste isn't worth the squeeze.

If Rivera had acquired Ryan instead of Wentz, no doubt in my mind he would continue to start Ryan whatever the record is to this point of the season.

We just don't adjust or admit things aren't going well.

Rumblings that Irsay is meddling...

That rings 100% true Bulldog. The one constant in recent Washington Football history has been rigidity and stubborness. Gibbs is really the only modern exception. Everyone else seems locked into the whole 'What we do works' mindset. There's a reason that's such a popular sarcastic refrain.

I would not be at all surprised to see TH lead us to 4 straight wins and get benched for Wentz when he has recovered. Not even a little surprised.

Well, there would be a little surprise over 4 straight wins....

Just sayin.

What it boils down to IMO is ego. Fragile egos by coaches and front office.

Reid and Belichick cut high draft picks or free agents they feel they made a mistake on after giving them some time to turn things around.

But they don't sit there for 2-3 years watching a guy fail and continue to suit him up game after game.

Of course the other side of the coin is they usually acquire free agents that FIT the systems they are trying to run.

Translational issues like Washington is having with William Jackson III and had with Josh Norman in the past just make others scratch their heads.

In one case we take a zone corner (Norman) and ask him to play outside man coverage with 4.6 speed.

In the other we take a man cover corner (Jackson III) and ask him to play a tight zone scheme.

Its been a joke for a long time.

They have benched Jackson in his 2nd season. The question is, do they have the balls to do the same with the $28 million man?

This is very spot on. They don’t adjust or try new things or new players. I think a lot of that is due to turmoil and turnover in the organization. Things are always changing so everything is new. When that is the case, you just always write it off as “It takes time to learn”. Well, sometimes you can see it’s not going to work.

At 29, I bet William Jackson III gets released either during the season or after in January and he goes to Buffalo, KC or San Francisco and becomes a solid contributor. That's just the way things tend to go here.

I still don't understand why we can't run a cover on his side of the line of scrimmage and zone on the other side to take advantage of his skills.

Richie did that with DG, we have watched others like NE with Gilmore do the same thing.

No, Jackson III is not as good as these players who were legitimately 'great' but he is very solid through the first 4-5 years of his career.

I keep hearing about his 'skills'. I just haven't seen his 'skills' - in man, zone, run-for-your-life, or any other coverage. Maybe he's just done, has that ever occurred to anyone?

Might rather have faced Ryan. Man couldn’t move in the pocket at all. We would have feasted.

Ehlinger will be a question mark, and if nothing else can move and throw on the run a bit.

Our DL is going to need to be disciplined and make him throw from the pocket.

If only Ryan Kerrigan was still rushing off the end

Anyone even see him on the sidelines?

Robinson is not ready for the NFL. He may be soon, but he isn't now.

Gibson is. Despite his flaws and fumbles, he is the better back.

Rewatching the game

TH and Terry have a bond with each other that Carson doesn't. It doesn't mean I think TH is the answer, but chemistry is. The crowd chants his name, the players grab him, he trusts them and they trust him.

That's what we need in our future QB no matter who it is.

Do we finally make Cam Sims a Gronk type TE and test him?

Replace Fuller with Jackson and let him play man. Kind of like Sherman did in Seattle

Washington had three or four young offensive coaches here under Gruden, who have all gone on to coach NFL teams.

Our current offensive coordinator, Turner, like Shanahan and McVay is a 'bonus' baby with lineage of relatives in the NFL but in terms of ability to mold an offense seems like a step or two behind these others.

I suppose it is the Panther hangover.
