The problem is, the owner of the team has no shame. So something like this happening means nothing to him. Early in his ownership, someone probably would have been unjustly fired for something like this. But now, he just pretends like this stuff never happened and the media is out to get him.

Why is a guy like David Mayo getting the bulk of snaps over your top 2021 draft pick Jamin Davis? As far as we know, Davis is healthy, he has no attitude or disciplinary problems, so what gives?

He barely played yesterday.

It becomes even more concerning when you see a guy like Mayo getting abused in pass coverage on a few occasions yesterday, yet still get the nod. Wasn't coverage supposed to be one of Davis' strengths that was applauded all throughout the pre-draft process?

Was Davis really THAT far off the mark in terms of what they thought they were getting in him?

Being patient with draft picks is one thing. Getting virtually next to nothing from a guy like Davis through 16 games brings the concern to a whole other level.

Can you confidently say LB isn't as big a need as it was a year ago at this time for this team?

That's the frustrating part. Positional needs from a year ago are still many of the same needs now...and people wonder why we aren't making progress.

The other possibility is either JDR's staff is stubborn in their insistence that he becomes the Mike or they can't figure out how to use him. Or they didn't have the forethought to simplify things to make the learning curve easier on not just the LBers but the secondary as well.
All of it is a hodgepodge of bad/incompetence rolled into one.

I was also surprised last April that Davis was the only LB they drafted when it was obvious that they needed more than one.
 
The only way that pick can be justified is his 'ceiling' - in other words, they banked that given just his single year as a starting LB at Kentucky, he had barely sniffed his potential.

So your approach given all that is to put the guy on the bench and keep him there?

Makes zero sense - unless they've already decided he is not a starting LB.

That's exactly what it looks like John- went with ceiling/potential.
Not giving up on Davis by any means...players need time to develop(contrary to what some Skins fans think) but it does make me wonder about the staff's ability to identify strengths in their personnel and then scheme towards them.
 
Got a kick out of JP Finlay on twitter suggesting with the new name coming that Washington might want to be on Hard Knocks next year.

I thought...yeah I bet they want cameras behind the scenes in Ashburn with Congress trying to pry into the inter workings of the workplace, the stadium falling apart etc.....
Do these guys even think or did they have one too many last night? :ROFLMAO:
 
With that loss we allowed the iggles to make the playoffs.

To me Davis is not a MLB in a 4-3 and the time spent trying to fit him into that position was a misguided notion.

Scarier is that he seems to have all of the athletic talent to be a disrupter ala Parsons but none of the natural instincts.
 
There’s sooooo much this team does that doesn’t make a bit of sense. It’s on both sides of the ball & confusing as can be.

Even if the GM council takes a QB with the first pick, does anyone have faith they'll give him adequate help? Or that the coordinators will even utilize them correctly?

Why not feed him? We weren't far behind and Heinicke has zero swagger right now.
 
There have been a lot of games where we as fans have blamed coaching, when in my opinion the truth is, we just haven't had the talent to beat better teams. Whether you run or pass more, put your QB in an empty backfield or load it up, a lot of times it's just about the # of playmakers you do or don't have.

But I felt like the coaching staff cost us that win yesterday. After giving up the opening drive TD in the 2nd half (which is not a unique thing in the NFL btw), down by 1 damn point, we coached like we were down by 2 scores. This was a game Philly was expected to win, should have won, and of course, did win. But we had them where we wanted them in the first half. I felt like, the moment we went down on the scoreboard, Rivera just panicked. The calls made in the 2nd half weren't calls you make if you believe you have the better team or that you are likely to prevail.

I will also mention that we sorely missed OL coach John Matsko yesterday. The OL had one of it's worst performances of the year in the 2nd half and Taylor Heinicke often didn't even have time to throw the ball away. I have to believe Matsko being out with COVID was a factor.

Seems like every season this team gets decimated by injury. Covid piling on the second half of the season made it worse.

As far as injury goes, I can understand a season of bad luck with it...but it happens every year here..the roster gets decimated.

Why is that?
Lack of quality depth to deal with something normal?
Bad training staff?
Misuse of players putting them in more than normal,vulnerable positions?
A mix of all of the above?
 
It's a great question. I have no idea. As Andy Dufrane said in Shawshank, bad lucks floating around. Gotta land on somebody. We are just a couple years removed from firing all of the training/conditioning staff, right? So how many times do you have to clean house? Personally, I am not convinced that the training or conditioning staff has a lot to do with injury rates. It's a violent game and no matter how strong and well-conditioned guys are, injuries are inevitable. Why we've seemed to lead the league in them consistently - I don't know. Not saying all possibilities as far as causative factors or solutions aren't worth looking at, but I do believe sometimes it's just really, really bad luck. And having Satan for your owner and all of the bad karma that brings with it :)
 
Kerrigan made the playoffs. That hurts.
 
IMO...the League needs to expand the active roster to 60. You can't keep adding games and not add more players to the mix for depth.

Only having 46 up for game day is an absolute farce too. Expand that to 53.
