Great clip!!! Im a fan of brutal honesty. Although this can be fixed I liked last years motto of "playing defense on the way to Qb" This for sure has not been the case this year

I agree it’s the kind of rumor that usually proves to be nonsense. It’s not often, but teams DO let drafted guys go only to see them thrive elsewhere. Ever hear of Drew Brees? Ryan Tannehill. Hell, even Peyton Manning made the Colts look pretty stupid. Jamies Winston may turn out to be another one.

I doubt seriously Miami has decided after less than a season of film to give up on Tua, but it’s too early to say he can’t be a good one no matter how he’s looked so far.

Not to beat dead horse but another name we floated around here was Sam Darnold. 888 passing yards, 3td's/1 pick in 3 games and hasn't posted a QBR lower then 105.6 . He has red hot Panthers leading the division at 3-0 . Yes it early but to your point he never started a year off like this for the Jets .Sometimes a change can totally elevate a players play I wish we took a harder look at him

Again, the QB situation in DC isn't awesome but it's not the problem right now either. With last year's top 5 defense Heine would be at least 2-1 right now and maybe 3-0.

Until that defense wakes up, switching out for Tua is nothing but a waste of a 2nd rounder. That would be a Dan Snyder move if I ever saw one.

Idk let’s try nailing a franchise Qb that’s actually talented and get the offense rolling and scoring points and let out defense play with the weight of the world on their shoulders .. The inconsistency of our offense over last how many years is getting old ... I want to win games 34 - 16 not 14-10

It’s not about getting by. Its about whether or not the WFT is actually committed to building an actual team. Trading away high picks isn’t the way to do that. Does the team need a QB? Absolutely. They should get one. But not Tua and not for a second rounder.

This team has ‘nailed a franchise QB’ several times over the past 20 years. That hasn’t created a dynasty. Or made the team perennial contenders. Or even perennial winners. Or even a perennial average team.

It’s not the QB.

And I don’t but the ‘change of scenery might make a struggling QB better’ argument. You know who got better with a change of scenery? Brad Johnson did. Kirk Cousins did. QBs dont come HERE and play better. Ask Mark Brunell, or Donovan McNabb, or Rex Grossman, or Case Keenum, or Alex Smith. This is where QBs go to dissappear.

No, trading away another pick for another someone else’s QB would be business as usual around here. I’d like to see some patience and, more importantly, some real front-office savvy for a change. For once. Just freaking one time.

I dont think that’s too much to ask.

Henry, I don't disagree with you often but I'm going to disagree here.

Brad Johnson is the best QB we have had at this franchise for almost 30 years. He didn't get better when he went to TB so much as he had a better supporting cast. Kirk Cousins is probably the second-best QB we have had here in the last 30 years. I think you can argue that he is the same guy in MN that he was here just with a better coaching staff.

So they didn't get better with a change of scenery. The scenery got a lot better around them which made them look better than they did while they were here.

As for Brunell, McNabb, and Smith - they were done before they got here and we all knew it. Smith is the only one you could argue was still getting it done because of his last year in KC but honestly, I wasn't happy with that move because at his age it was a "win now" move with a team that wasn't ready to "win now".

Keenum and Grossman were just guys. Career NFL backups and never close to being franchise QBs.

These guys didn't come here and disappear. They were already disappearing and we somehow thought coming here would halt that process but it doesn't work that way in the NFL.

While I am not in favor of trading for Tua, he is none of those things and represents a much better risk than any of them. He is young, with plenty of gas in the tank. He played at a high level in college and has shown real potential in the NFL on what is arguably a bad team. The biggest knock on him is durability which makes bringing him here a huge concern.

I said this on the Blind Pig this week - there isn't another position in professional team sports that compares with QB in the modern NFL as far as a direct impact on the game is concerned. If a Tua were to pan out, a 2nd round pick would be dirt cheap for him and our front office would be hailed as brilliant.

First of all, this is what appears to be a baseless rumor. So before we light up the team for potentially giving up a 2nd for Tua, let's remember that this is a fantasy in the first place If it became clear the Dolphins are going to acquire Watson and are shedding Tua, he's going to be had for next to nothing. That's just for starters.

Secondly, no one, and I mean NO ONE, knows if Tua is an NFL QB. His stats in 2020 were on par with most NFL QBs. Whether he can be a true NFL starter and stay on the field, I don't know. But saying (as many have) that because Tim Tebow was an electric college QB, Tua is doomed to be Tim Tebow - that's just a silly argument. The reason that I would take a flyer on a guy like Tua is exactly because no one knows what his ceiling is. If you somehow hit on a guy like that, it's the deal of the century. When it comes to the QB position, you take as many chances as you need to if you believe there's even a slight chance someone is a future star. We ought to know how hard it is to find that guy, so you do whatever it takes to give yourself as many chances as possible to find him.

Miami not wanting Tua after drafting him a few days ago is critical information, but it could also be tragically wrong. Are the odds of that exponentially high? Probably not. But I think if Miami did move on from Tua soon, he'd come at a bargain basement cost and would certainly be worth acquiring in that scenario.

The scenery around here needs to change. Otherwise the QB doesn’t matter.

Yes, the supporting cast makes a difference. There is no question about that.

However, in the modern NFL, there is nothing that compares to having consistent play from a franchise QB. Nothing in team sports. A Hall of Fame supporting cast is never going to consistently win without a franchise QB now. The NFL has re-written the rules of the game in such a fashion that it is required.

I think one could make the argument that this Washington team is close to being on par with recent Super Bowl winning teams in most areas - except under center. Yeah, the defense isn't playing well right now and we could use another LB, CB, and WR, but in the modern NFL there is no such thing as a team without holes. The difference between the teams picking between 10 and 30 in the First Round is their QB.

Until we have one, all the other changes we make will only serve to change our draft spot a little bit.

Well, I dont want to repeat the first two paragraphs of my post above, but when I say ‘its not the QB’ I dont mean they don’t need one.

But lacking a QB isnt what has been the WFTs problem for decades. I am 99.9% sure that trading away another second rounder for another QB that another team doesn’t want would not change things around here for the better.

Trading for a QB that another team doesn’t want leaves only three options.

1. Signing a free agent that another team doesn’t want.
2. Signing a free agent that multiple other teams want and pay a boatload.
3. Get lucky in the draft.

1. We did that this offseason. Not saying it was the wrong move, but obviously it's just kicking the can down the road even if he were healthy and playing well.
2. The problem isn't the 'boatload' - because Stafford or Russell Wilson would be worth whatever they cost. The problem is, as I threw out there in the pod Overtime, why would any start free agent QB want to play in DC on a Dan Snyder-owned team? I just don't see us winning that competition, against at least 2/3rds of the leauge.
3. We know how that's gone for us.
