From watching reruns of this past season I could see how Haskins was developing toward the end of the year. I’m obviously the furthest thing from an NFL accredited scout as you can get, but I see major potential in DH, more so than many on here anyways.

Haskins hasn't been handed anything other than an o-line mess, coaching changes and a huge void at TE. With an off-season in which Jay did nothing to advance his learning, on top of his pitiful blocking options Id say he ended up doing pretty damn well. I seriously don’t see one inkling of why they should consider taking Tua at this point, along with pushing the ‘DH will have top tier competition’ mantra. It’s bizarre on its best day.

Say we do draft Tua at #2 and he ends up shitting the bed, you’ve already alienated Haskins to where he wouldn’t, as well as shouldn’t resign with the skins. Throw in all the holes we have on the o-line and absent a TE and it ends up being a major setback in rebuilding.

It’s one thing to explore due diligence for the sake of masking our draft intentions when we’re trying a trade down. It’s another to do it when we have a more than capable qb already on roster that needs a few pieces added to excel. To me it feels like RR is legit in moving on from Haskins and I view this as a big mistake that will only add more time and anguish to the rebuild.
 
I don't think so Win. One of the reasons Rivera reportedly went with Scott Turner as OC was because he runs a pocket passer offense, not a West Coast one. I think that strongly implies that they are trying to build a system in which Haskins will thrive. There was a ton of rumors last year that the Redskins were going to trade up to get Daniel Jones. I think that helped cement the Giants taking him. This is the season for head fakes and rumors (most started by the teams who most stand to benefit from them :) ). I wouldn't buy into the idea that the Redskins have given up on Haskins or don't believe in him. I think it's highly unlikely. But they stand to benefit from making others believe they have.

The reason there is no trade market for Trent Williams is that the Redskins so far have reached out with the supposed intention of bringing him back.

I don't think I have seen any report where he is being actively shopped, although his most recent comments about a contract at the top of the OT market might result in his being traded near or at the time of the draft.

The truth is Williams received the largest OT contract in NFL history on his current deal and per his request that money was heavily front-loaded. Now he is complaining there isn't much left on the back end.

Well, that's the consequence of getting what he wanted in the beginning.

I am in favor of guaranteeing him his 2020 salary at this point and adding on an extra guaranteed year perhaps with an option.

But not at $18M. He's 32 years old and at an age where NFL players outside of quarterbacks are usually at the back end of their primes.

What needs to be considered for a lack of interest as well, is that the OL talent in this draft is deep. Of the teams with a need at LT, who is going to have a first round choice to draft one of the 5 who could easily go in the 1st round...or at least the 1st 45 picks in the draft since positions like QB invariably go higher than their actual talent suggests?
 
If the Redskins can't work it out with Trent - they're in a bit of a bind. The free agent market at LT is weak. Very few guys under the age of 30 who either aren't coming off an injury, or don't have baggage like off the field trouble, especially starting caliber guys. That means you either plug in somebody already on the roster, or find a way to draft someone. We're not really positioned to draft a LT starter unless we either do it with our 2nd pick (very unlikely) or trade down and snag an additional 1st or 2nd round pick.

its about a 5 hour drive for most from MD/VA (NC is a bit more), but this city is a lot better than most believe.

I am on board with giving the new regime a chance, I got almost exactly what I wanted....Jay and Bruce gone.

However, at this point I am still not ready to invest money on the team again. While it would be nice to see you, Sian and the boys, I'm not ready to invest time and money on this team again...not yet.
