No dire predictions here. No predictions at all. I'm just saying we've seen this before. Or has the memory of Shanahan faded? Even Gibbs 2? I well remember when Shanny came to town we were seeing and hearing the same things from both fans and the media. "Oh, he's been to the Suuuuuuuuuuuuper Booooooooooowl!" "He knows what he's doing" blah blah blah. Maybe this time there is hope, but the danny is still in the background, just like he's always been for the last 20 years. Color me jaded that anything is going to change.

I don't have any problem with that stance. There may be a few fans out there that think all of these changes guarantee success - but I haven't seen anyone here say anything close to that.

This claim has been made countless times before. It's never been true. I do not see anything this time around that's different than before.

To say some of these Carolina hires appear less than stellar is being far too kind. As long as he holds the staff to the same standard as the players regarding accountability then all good imo.

So - I'm really not trying to be antagonistic, so please don't take it that way. But what do any of us know about the Coordinators/assistants he's hired (other than JDR who has a serious history of success)? Is your comment based on the fact that they came from Carolina? I didn't recognize a single name of the assistants he's hired so far - and I'm skeptical anyone here did either. That doesn't equate to 'sub par' or 'less than stellar'. None of us know these guys. They may be great coaches

He just looked like a guy who hasn't talked to the press in 10 years, not that I blame him.

I'm not particularly worried about '20. I'm sure Snyder will sit in the corner during Year One.

Let's see what happens if we're not in the playoffs Year Two. God help us.

Earlier I was looking up any history I could find on the individual(s) RR has hired. As Fan62 mentioned there's very little on some of these guys, so for instance I looked for offensive line rankings that could be associated with John Matsko.

According to Football Outsiders the panthers were quite shite in most of their rankings, and middle of the pack at best in others this past season

2019
run blocking 17th, running back yards 2nd (Mcaffrey), power success/ranking 32nd
pass blocking 28th, sacks against 32nd, adjusted sack rate 29th

So I gather that without Christian Mcaffrey their run game would be just as awful as their pass blocking. Keep in mind our o-line is sketchy at best with Sybil, Scherff's unwillingness, and Moses turning into penalty central. Our new o-line coach is the reincarnation of Manusky for that unit and could possibly get our QB (to be named) hurt for yet another season. Dead last or close to it in rankings is where I'm basing my subpar label. I'll trust in Rivera's judgement for now, but take zero solace in this ex-panther hire until he improves drastically

I agree that to keep Snyder in the owner's box and off the sideline and locker room, Rivera has to have some success in 2020 building into 2021.

If this team goes a strong 7-9 or 8-8 next year and looks poised with another draft to be a playoff team then I think we are OK.

If we go 5-11 next year and things look disorganized and Haskins is on social media complaining about the playbook and Turner, Snyder is going to reappear as an actor on the stage

After 20+ years I frankly don't care. As noted a while ago, the Skins are now just Entertainment to me. They lose I change the channel. My wife is from Kansas City afterall.

Just pointing out the obvious. No GM to counter-balance (i.e., Snyder has done so much damage he had to give in on this). One Panther hire after the next. Nothing like hiring losers for the last few years run out of town. There is culture and there is winning SBs. Anyone see the Skins finishing better than 3rd in the NFE over the next several years?

Maybe so. It just seems different this time. Maybe that's pie in the ski, and I'm certainly in a wait and see mode. If nothing else I've been duped in to anticipation yet again. Maybe Snyder's a blind squirrel and he's finally found a nut. We can only hope.

That's a fair point, but the reality is you aren't winning any SB's the way things have been run. I didn't follow the Panthers closely under Rivera, but I don't recall watching games where they seemed clueless, and I don't recall their organization or team taken to task over how it was run. Rivera may only get this team to respectable competence, but that's a hell of a lot better than we've had around here. That's not what we should aspire too, but hell dude, righting the ship has to start somewhere. It's hard to look back and say the odds for you being right aren't in your favor, but I have more confidence in Rivera than I have in the last few coaches. I also choose to believe that Snyder hit a low enough spot to leave Rivera alone. None of us who are feeling some excitement are feeling it in a vacuum. We're all still cautious. It's just more fun to let the optimism flow a bit than to be pissed about things until outcome dictates that reaction. We're a freaking laughing stock in the league. I'm embarrassed to admit I'm a fan. If he can solve those two things, he'll have accomplished something.

He may sit in the corner in Year One, but there is no guarantee of that if Haskins is not used. Many accounts say that Snyder thinks Haskins is going to be an amazing QB, and there's enough smoke there that there is probably some truth in those statements. The counters to this thought (Snyder asserting himself) are:
- any contract language saying otherwise
- Gibbs advising Snyder that he needs to hand the keys to Rivera, which I think happened

I believe, though, that he will be annoying if some of the Haskins development doesn't happen the way he would like.

I still love the Skins, still consider myself a fan of the team, and still follow what they do (as evidenced by my presence here). The games hold dramatically less allure than they ever did, and maybe related (but I think there is more there for me at least), the NFL in general. I watch NHL and MLB a lot more, probably also because the products the DC teams put there are fun to watch. Call me crazy, but I enjoy having fun in my free time.

I don't expect any of my issues to go away as long as Dan owns the team. There may be blips, and maybe in the next 2 or 3 years we get a blip. Long-term though, I wouldn't bet a dollar on anything even remotely consistent with success. I could be wrong, and as a fan, I really hope I am.

There are a lot more teams out there like the Redskins than the Steelers or Patriots

Arizona, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Buffalo (until this year), Jacksonville, Miami, etc.

In fact until this past season when the Redskins were 3-13, somehow Washington managed to stay for the most part in that 7-9 to 9-7 range the last several years - finishing ahead of many of these other teams that traditionally draft in the Top 5.

This is just my way of saying it could actually have been worse.

It's still a miracle to me that Spurrier was 7-9 in his first season and that Zorn was 8-8

Today I realized that we won 3 of the first 26 Super Bowls. In about a month, there will pass the 28th consecutive Super Bowl that we haven't even sniffed playing in. That feels so much worse than saying we haven't won in however many years.

I don't know what happened between the two but my guess is O'Connell wanted a bit too much independence as OC than Rivera was willing to grant starting off in Year 1.

Doug Pederson is an offensive mind so this is a growth opportunity for Kevin working with a good qb.

But he will be under Doug's watchful eye too.

Kind of how it looks to me, too. It looked like KOC wanted more autonomy over the Offense, staff and etcetera and Rivera kinda' sorta' asked "Who are you again?"

RUMINT that KOC wasn't thrilled about having to do a second interview kind of galvanize that a bit.

Again as with Schaffer I don't understand how people that were part of a 3-13 debacle could be so entitled and demanding with a new boss coming in.

When a company I once worked for was bought out and new management asked to interview us in management we were courteous to them and listened to what their vision was going forward.

We didn't go in telling them what WE wanted from them.
