Random Commanders Thoughts

To my knowledge, nobody from either the Redskins nor the Browns has denied what the Browns have claimed.

If someone has information I don't, feel free to share.

They've never confirmed what they've offered, either. All we know, it could be Kellen Winslow II and a sack of bismati rice.

Both of which would be more useful than Williams to the Skins right now...

The point is not what they offered. The point is that the Redskins won't even listen to offers, or make counter offers.

Reminds me of when Cousins apparently refused to even talk to the Redskins. That didn't go over well either, if memory serves.

Come on folks.

New England gave up a #2 pick for Mohamed Sanu.

Trust me, there are teams out there that have quarterbacks screaming for pass protection on various teams that hope to make a postseason run.

We don't know what the maximum deal might be for Williams but until Bruce realizes there isn't going to be a renaissance with the current roster unaltered going into 2020, the organization is stuck in neutral.

Instead of hearing about Alex Smith throwing the ball and planning a comeback, I want to hear more about what we are doing with our 23 year old players not our 37 or 38 year old players.

Bruce is a dolt & even if he goes in on a trade, he could get fleeced. But, didn't the Alex Smith trade come really out of the blue? I don't think any reporter, local beat or national, hinted to it before it went through. So maaaaaaaaaaaaybe Trent will still get traded, but we won't hear about it until it happens.

Well, however ****ed up or half assed it might be, I'm sure they have a plan. And they're apparently sticking to it.

I see no urgency in getting it done before the deadline. I don't think whatever value he has now, will drop much if they wait until the offseason. It surely won't help this season, to do it now.

If they do it before the deadline, fine.
If they wait until the offseason, just as well.

If they're not gonna do it now, could be they're pretty confident Pothead ain't checking in at anytime this season. Thereby forfeiting all his money for this year. Which if I understand correctly, the team will have that added to next years available cap. So then we trade the Fat Moron, get picks, plus 12+ million dollars.

I don't ****ing know.

With absolute certinaty we know this: Bruce Allen is an incompetent who has ended up decimating this once proud franchise.

He does become less valuable the longer we wait.

If he were traded at the beginning of this season, that team would have had him for 2 full seasons under contract, we lost out on his max value by not trading him to the Texans before Miami got involved.

Now? Any team that trades for him only has him for one and a half seasons, which is still more valuable than if he is traded in the off-season.

If we wait until after the trade deadline, we are looking at trading a player who has only 1 year left on his current contract. That becomes less valuable to a team unless, we can work out a sign and trade. You trust Bruce with that? Maybe, we hold onto him until the beginning of next season as a team desperate for an LT because they lost one reaches out.

Working against us even more, this coming draft is supposed to have a glut of quality LT's coming out in the draft. The one team talking about truly wanting TW is willing to pay now, who lost just a little leverage in the discussions by coming out saying how interested they are...that team is going to be bad enough to end up with one of those LT's coming out in the draft, so why trade for a 31 yr old malcontent at that point? There are 3 LT's slated to go in the top 10 next draft.

Like it or not, believe it or not, we lost max value. We have less than a week to get the most value we can for him. It continues to drop after that.

His value is dropping as time goes by.

Cool news: A source told us that the Nats took charter flights yesterday and today to take all employees to one of these World Series games with one guest. From our source who went yesterday, “It was first class all the way. The Lerners know how to take care of people.”

I'm all for trading him as soon as we can...but if he doesn't report, he will still have 2 seasons left on his contract.

I like the sound of sending him to Cleveland, less likely he's in the playoffs. At this point a 2nd rounder sounds good

Sadly, this is probably true.

What are the odds Bruce has been playing the game all along and driving up the price on Trent so we get the max value?

0%. Bruce has never been that forward thinking.

Nobody is gonna trade anything of value for him unless he signs another contract. Which is what this is all about. He wants more money. Period.

Personally, with his age, injury, and drug issues, I think a 3rd or 4th is about all anyone will give for him. And I think that will be the same if it doesn't happen until the offseason. If a contender wants to give us something stupid before the deadline, it may be worth it. Depending on how stupid it is.

Could be the team is hoping to combine him in pre-draft, or draft day trade, to go after someone they covet.
Anyway, he's already damaged goods. If he truly sits this whole season, teams might be happier to get a fully healthy, gnawing at the bit Crybaby.

Who the hell knows? I just don't see it as earth shattering if they wait for the offseason.

Not according to this...

It states that 2021 he is a UFA. Of course, we can always just franchise tag him.

Edit: Unless you're saying that his no show just extends the contract to make up for the year missed? I'm not sure that's the case. I think we just don't have to pay him for the season if he's a no show, and 2020 is the last year of the contract.

We could have had Jadeveon Clowney and a 2nd or 3rd round pick, if memory serves.

If the trigger was pulled in August, we could have gotten much much more than what you suggest is the current market for him.

The longer we wait, the less value he has.

That's not true.

In fact a contender may trade MORE for Williams now with only straight salary in 2020 and the impact he might have in the playoffs.

If you wait until the offseason teams are no longer under the gun and can look to the draft and cheaper/younger options at OT.

Besides, Allen seems to be pointing to the offseason in part because it will be seen as the team not giving in to the player.

That seems a petty reason for a team at 1-6 and with a host of entitled veterans on the team that never seem to be challenged to compete for their jobs.

One question you can ask yourself is what would the best GMs out there do in this situation?

Heck even average to below average front offices.

The Jaguars got high picks for Ramsey.

The Dolphins got high picks for Stills, Tunsil and Fitzpatrick.

If he doesn't show up by week 10, I think it is, he won't be paid, and he won't be credited with the season towards him being a free agent next season.
That's my understanding.

And rumors of trade compensation, plus a $1.50 will get you a small coffee at 7-11.

Yeah I thought I read somewhere that if he doesn't show up by week 10 then this season's contract is void and his 2 remaining years start over in 2020/2021. I get why Bruce is returning the 'I can be an asshole too' volley right back to Trent, but that style of management only works with well run organizations. Odds are against the Browns headed to the superbowl in the next 2-3 years, so sending him to Cleveland to end his career is quite fitting from the team's pov. Basically it's the next best thing to not letting TW out of his current contact while we get something in return.
