Random Commanders Thoughts

Gruden on Haskins: ‘ You just can't hand the keys to a guy because of where he was drafted. He has to earn it.'

That's great Jay, but then how come Josh Doctson became a starter immediately and remained one after injury despite disappointing productivity.

Seems as if he was kept here strictly because he was a first round pick and if he had been taken in the fourth he would have been released.

How about Ryan Anderson? He continues to get on the field at OLB despite the fact he has no impact on the pass rush.

We just signed Noah Spence off the street and played him against NY so Anderson's status as a bust seems fully confirmed.

How come he is still here?

It's not because he is a second round pick is it? 😳

So, don't try and BS us.

Jay was going to do as much as possible to avoid getting Haskins ready to play because Haskins wasn't ‘his' guy.

Unless Dwayne came in and performed like Marino right off the bat Gruden was going to do his best to redshirt him.

I'd like to know exactly what Rob Kelley and Samaje Perine "earned," Jay.

Nothing new on terms of Trent, but some interesting comparisons to Keenan McCardell's holdout in Tampa and how Allen handled it.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...a-holdout-as-trent-williams-continues-to-sit/

Why the hell is Williams still here? Trade him. These yahoos act like he's the final piece of the puzzle to go to the Super Bowl. Reality is that he's still good but on the downside of his career. We're not going anywhere even if he comes back in shape. Trade his ass for a #1 to some team that needs an LT and has a chance to do something

For Dan and Bruce winning is a priority but for them it has to come while their egos get stroked.

Trent Williams has poked Bruce in the eye by holding out and Bruce's response is basically that Trent can sit for 2 years if he wants to.

Dan and Bruce are not going to trade Williams to New England or say KC because they don't want to see him get a ring and show them up.

The fact compensation could help the team rebuild with picks is of secondary importance.

You know, I used to buy that "Danny wants to win" thing. It was his only redeeming quality. But I don't believe that any more. I think now he's happy with the league revenue sharing pouring millions into is bank account and fans from other teams filling the stadium. After all, someone paid full price for those tickets

Gawd I hope this is the case. I'd sit that ungrateful piece of maggot shit as long as I could. Deducting every penny of fines I could get.
**** him eternally.

Pothead Crybaby Mother****er!

I've always felt this is one of the more unbelievable notions bandied around about Snyder. If he's all about money, then he knows that fielding a winning team will bring him, the most money. And people like that never settle for "enough", because there is no such thing. And I've worked for, and around, many embarrassingly rich people. Ones that resemble this notion of Snyder, never settle. If a way to make more exists, they will pursue it with great vigor.

Now, if you wanna talk being a horrible decision maker, well then, I'm your Huckleberry.

Isn't there a way we could put him on a pup list if/when Trent returns? I mean if the team is gonna say **** you right back it would be the one way to go about it. Other than trading him to shitty team worse than us, problem is there isn't one, lol

Wanting to win and knowing how to win are two completely different things. I always laugh when people say Snyder doesn't want to win. Of course he does, but really that's not what matters. He has absolutely no clue how to win. Questioning his desire is not something you can really prove. But the results of his ownership show he has no idea what he's doing.

He's the guy stuck in a hole that thinks if you just dig a little deeper you will get out. He really wants to get out, but doesn't know how to get out. So he just keeps digging his hole deeper and deeper wondering why he's not getting above ground. All the while, his little buddy keeps telling him they are close to getting out, just dig a little harder.

I'm trying to figure out why the oddsmakers are making the Patriots fifteen point favorites and not twenty-five - or more.

These lines are all about trying to get the most money for the bookies. I don't bet, but from everything I heard from talk show hosts this is a huge number for the NFL. If they made it 25 points or more, most of the big money would be put on the Redskins. I heard multiple hosts on the XM Fantasy Football channel talking about how they bet on the Redskins to cover this weekend. I also think they worry that when a number gets too high, it's easier to get to players so they can point shave. I don't know how likely that is, but if the number gets too big I think the bookies worry about those types of things.

In all likelihood, the Patriots could be favored by 25 and still win by more than that. But the numbers aren't necessarily based on expected outcome as it is expected payout.

How many recently ex-Redskins are telling people that they were dancing in a gay club rather than playing for the Redskins? It would be less embarrassing.

Come on Aussie - it ain't 1955. Gay people dance - nothing embarrassing about it. Find better analogies please.

The line started at 14 and is now up to 15.5 or even 16.

Part of it is oddsmakers don't like uncertainty.

Gruden has failed to name his starting qb until very late in the week and once he does that I think you will see greater movement.

But Gruden vs the greatest coach in the Super Bowl era?

There is little doubt about the outcome.

What is interesting is that Rosen is playing fairly well for Miami.

I wonder what the line will be there.

That game is no slam dunk for this team.

In re the arguments about what Snyder and Bruce know, a real GM would have rooted out the problems with Jay and his system and given him the boot long ago.

That's what Brian Mitchell has maintained from Day 1 especially in regards to Dwayne Haskins.

Last year we brought in Josh Johnson and gave him a short course of plays to learn to get him on the field.

So, Gruden could have worked to get a manageable play set established for Haskins and then drilled it in practice so Dwayne could come out and have some confidence in execution. Then you build on that during the season so he grows.

The Bears last year had a set of plays for Trubisky and fed him information via headset on adjustments and audibles.

They had the center make the protection calls.

So, Jay saying a guy has to know the entire system with variables before he gets out on the field is BS.

That was the thinking back in the 1970's and 80's before the cap when younger quarterbacks sat for 2 or 3 years before getting a chance to to play.

Today, first round picks are on a 5 year clock in re the cap and free agency.

We can't wait 2 or 3 years to get Haskins going to see IF he can play and at what level.

McCoy starting no surprise, but why not name the backup publicly yet?

Norval doesn't want NE to know who to really prepare for once Colt exits the game with an injury halfway through the first quarter.

Jay Gruden's strategy now becomes clear.

He names Colt the starter but refuses to name his backup ‘at this time'.

What Jay is angling to do is start Colt, promote Case as the backup and then make Haskins inactive for the next 11 weeks or until he gets fired.

In fact I think it is his intention to provoke others within the organization by making this move.

One of the mistakes the Redskins made was not getting rid of both Gruden and McCoy after 2017.

These guys are joined at the hip and I remember Jay saying when Kirk left and before Alex was acquired that he could turn to Colt as the starter.

So, put aside any issues with Haskins for a minute.

Gruden's preference for the past two plus years was to get Colt on the field as the starter.

This is concerning to me as we are going beyond the pick of Dwayne or starting a rookie arguments we have been seeing.

Jay Gruden is delusional enough to think a quarterback with limited NFL ability can be successful strictly because he knows THIS system.

In the end it's not about the player or the talent, it's strictly about ego.

Jay's overweening ego in his system is what is really the stumbling block.

We could bring in Patrick Mahomes and Jay would still want to start McCoy.

As with the 3-4 defense, I don't see how you can move forward as an organization being this inflexible.

Coaching as Joe Gibbs, Parcells and Belichick have shown is about playing to the talent and building a team to win.

The Patriots have been 3-4, 4-3 and variations thereof in their Super Bowl wins.

Gibbs moved from a one back offense with two TEs in 1982 to a three wide receiver, one TE scheme in 1991.

Those two offenses really were not similar as Joe and Mark had different strengths and weaknesses.

Gruden needs to go if he thinks Colt McCoy at 32 and not having won a game since 2014 is the long term answer, this team is truly lost.

I think Gruden knows he won't make it to week 16 and is trying to make some kind of a point on the way out. I definitely think Haskins is inactive this Sunday, and Jay knows exactly what he's doing. If Gruden wasn't already slated to be fired in the immediate future, relegating Haskins to the inactive list, and the videos that surfaced just now on Twitter will guarantee it.
