Yep, sports is a results oriented business.

You can't hide your incompetence because your record is there for all to see.

Gruden's excuses are the same as 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Right now the Redskins are everyone's homecoming game.
 
This is honestly funny at this point. All you can really do is sit back and laugh.

1) Bruce is voted as least "trusted" exec in the NFL in a poll by agents.

2) Bruce ruins any good faith we had in contract negotiations with Cousins years ago by making our offer to him public, and trying to make Cousins look greedy. That blows up in his face, and Cousins leaves without getting anything in return from another team.

3) Not learning his lesson, Bruce tries the same thing again last week. This time he leaks what we've offered Scherff, and tries to make him look greedy. Suddenly Scherff can't play on Sunday, and any chance we had at a running game is gone and our rookie QB is put in jeopardy.

Scherff is gone. There's no way he's going to sign for someone that can't be trusted. Kiss that 1st goodbye.

Bruce is stupid enough to think that we have leverage with players. Like playing for the Skins is some honor.

And Dan is complicit in all of this. Otherwise he would have fired Bruce the second that those Scherff contract details were leaked.

It's crazy and hysterical at the same time.

This is something I've thought a lot about.

How do you end up with a Bruce Allen at the helm wielding what looks like almost 100% autonomous power?

You end up there because the owner has no ****ing clue. ZERO ****ing clue. And so he hires a guy who's a lot like him. Paranoid. Insecure. Aggressive. Supposedly football knowledgeable. And Machiavellian. And you let him do YOU better than YOU do YOU.

The only problem is, he has no more idea how to create a winning organization than you do. And now your only crony and confidant in the entire effing Universe needs to go. You have to fire YOU. And how do you send him on his way? When he's your only remaining yes man, ally, and confidant? Who is going to advise you in the aftermath? Who is going to provide you positive direction, empathy, and comradeship?

So... if Snyder does fire Bruce Allen, who in God's name does he turn to in order to salvage this imploding franchise? Doug Williams? I don't think so.

To change the course of this organization, Snyder will need help.
He'll need guidance.
He'll need character, and smarts, and experience.
And there's only one guy who is capable and willing to give it to Snyder.

Gibbs.

When the time comes, you all better pray that Gibbs is the incredibly savvy and wise soul we've always thought he was. Because he will be the one guiding Snyder. There really isn't anyone else Snyder will listen to.
 
Snyder doesn't meddle anymore day to day and in re the detailed decisions.

But he does at quarterback.

In 2012 and 2019 Snyder directed the moves for Griffin and Haskins.

In 2012 Shanahan developed a plan for Griffin but there was no such planning for Haskins.

The mistake was keeping Gruden.

If there is a move the team needs to ensure a coach wants to develop Haskins and can enunciate broad outlines of a plan.

Haskins didn't line up under center in college.

OK, well what about running shotgun regularly on passing downs to help him adjust to the speed of the league?

We need to be flexible here and Jay's fixed notions of how we play is at odds with what the best coaches do.
 
Jay's MO is "Derp, this is how I do it" and it hasn't worked.

Dan needs to go. Bruce needs to go. Jay needs to go. All three, I'd be thrilled. I know Dan won't go anywhere, though, sadly enough.
 
Big mouth DJ Swearinger was released by the Cardinals today.

4 games was enough for Kingsbury.

Another bum we gave a bonus to.

We certainly can pick ‘em.

Agents are mostly anti-team scum. Their opinion is worthless

Hell, I live in the DMV and I never heard this. Not saying it wasn't reported. Just that I didn't hear it until now. And, as usual, Bruce is automatically guilty of everything.
Poor Jay.

Well, Bruce, along with every other FO in the league better start playing hardball with these friggin players. They are showing their ass all across the league.
Personally, I'd be just as happy watching replacement players on every team.

Fire Bruce Allen if you want to please the crowd. Until Allen is gone, this team absolutely cannot rebuild. They won't get the FA needed with him because agents will steer players away.

I can just imagine Jay Gruden 35 years from now when he is 85 and is in an interview recalling his NFL experience and saying:

‘We did some things but if I could ever have found a quarterback that could execute my system the way I liked the sky could have been the limit for us' 🤪

Nobody will be interviewing Jay Gruden 35 years from now, unless it is to talk about his brother. He will be a forgotten footnote in the NFL.

He'll let his son handle it. That worked swell with the Allens...so why can't that magic be captured in the Redskin bottle again!!!!
 
Unless John hires Jay to be his coordinator the only nfl future Jay has may be game day commentator. The networks always like ex coaches for those spots.

You know his tenure wouldn't last long because he'll go on air with 1 phrase that won't work, then repeat said phrase over and over again to the dismay of everyone watching.

I never listen to Czaban, but did tonight and he was spot on about where Bruce Allen stands in this organization. Much of his rant was conjecture but he suggested, as I believe correctly, that right now Bruce is in Dan's ear talking up the "successes" of his tenure, while excusing the past 3 years of poor play. And he posed the question, what would Snyder do w/out Allen? He has no clue who could come in here and run this team, much less give them the autonomy to do it.

This is the only thing that will keep Jon Gruden around. Jay can scheme the 1st half of a game as well as anyone, his brother might keep him in check and make the needed adjustments at half to keep the lead. But...the game has pretty much passed Jon by, so.
 
Jon Gruden's downfall is going to be getting rid of core players like Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper while replacing them in the locker room with Burfict and Richie Incognito.
 
At least he's won a game, or two.

Yeah, he ain't all that. But he's the best HC named Gruden.
 
How about the picks for AB?

I am thankful that here Jay doesn't have full control over personnel.

Mark Davis was a sucker for giving Jon Gruden a 10 year contract.

Gruden has won as many Super Bowls as McCarthy, Billick, Kubiak - coaches that never again got big gigs after being fired.
 
I'm so conflicted. The season is a wash so it's theoretically the perfect opportunity to get Haskins some time to develop and see if we have anything there. But I'm not sure Gruden has put any effort into development and going in this year might just ruin him. Such a sad state of affairs.
 
What Gruden did with Haskins last week has been criticized by most in the NFL.

His handling of the young qb in terms of his hostility will be a barrier to him getting a job outside of Oakland.

Coaches except the Reid's and Belichick that are also the GMs are expected to work with and prepare the players they are given.

When all is said and done I believe Gruden with Haskins will look as malfeasant as what Jeff Fisher did to Jared Goff.
