Random Commanders Thoughts

Honest question here. Has Ike Hilliard developed ANY draft picks so far?

Maybe promote Wes Phillips to passing game coordinator n stuff.

i have been wondering that myself the last year or so

Bruce Allen is a fraud.

The core players the Raiders and Bucs had when he was with those organizations were drafted by Mike Lombardi and Rich McKay.

In fact Allen presided over the post-Super Bowl decline of the Bucs as star players aged and they were not properly replaced in the draft and free agency.

How he still manages to get away with claiming he has any legitimacy as a front office executive is a joke.

Jim Zorn coached at the college and NFL level for 20 years (after a decade as a starting QB) and even that didn't qualify him to be a head coach. If Cooley wants to step out of the broadcast booth and try his hand at coaching, that's great. But he's about as qualified as one of us to step in today as a coach.

While I realize I got lumped in with everyone re: your statement above, I will take it and be damn proud. This is the first time I've ever been qualified.

For anything. Holy crap! I need to go celebrate! Thanks B!

uh, does that carry any monetary or other perks by chance?

No - but I don't have many buddies, so we will always have that :)

In all seriousness, you're one of the best new members we've had in a long while - glad you are here!

Torrian Gray has been fired. So Skins will have a new DB coach at a minimum.

Rumored to have hosted Bowles although what that was about remains unclear...

No confirmation that Manusky is gone though - at least that I've seen. Are you guys really that sold on Todd Bowles?

I got a private message early this morning and it indicated that the entire defensive staff is gone. Can't reveal my source, but it seems like it could be true.

If they've really met with Bowles, you almost have to believe it's coming if not done already. Funniest thing is, Skins fans already lighting up Twitter bitching about what we do know. There really is no winning for the Skins at this point.

According to this, it sounds like he is more likely to end up in Tampa.
No specific role was discussed with the Skins, reportedly

It pretty much sounded like the entire defensive staff.

Bowles visiting at Redskins Park is not a surprise. He and Doug Williams are close friends.

I doubt anyone outside Redskins Park knows what was discussed. I think Bowles is a long-shot. But the fact that they met with him at all means Manusky is dead man walking.

I'm not convinced that Manusky is the problem. Our defense the past 2 seasons, when it wasn't being asked to come in after a 3 and out every other series, looked pretty good. Folks rail about the relative health on defense, but don't take into account that an ineffective offense puts an incredible amount of pressure on the D.

We're about to clean house on defense - because the fans are demanding change and so Snyder will give at least some of it to them.

That doesn't guarantee the changes will result in improvement though. There's a cost to changing coaching and schemes every 2 years too.

Hopefully the 5th time will be the charm on that side of the ball for Gruden.

Geez, we have gone through DCs as if they are plastic utensils around here but one thing we haven't done is change the SCHEME.

We are still running the garbage that Haslett brought here - base 3-4 defense with safeties that are supposedly interchangeable and corners that play 3-5 yards off of receivers.

Bruce needs to keep his big nose out of what formations/alignment the team is running.

He and Shanahan may have been sold on the 3-4 back in 2010 but this team still doesn't have the personnel to make it work.

We also don't have any starting safeties at the moment with Swearinger gone, Dix a free agent and Nicholson likely on the Commissioner's Exempt List.

Unless we are prepared to start DeShazor Everett.

A new DC would be Gruden's 4th - right? Btw - I don't think Gruden *chose* Haslett. In fact, I am willing to authoritatively state that Snyder himself nixed the idea of paying Jim Haslett not to be the defensive coordinator, particularly since Snyder was already doing so with Mike Shanahan who was let go before his contract was up. I think the team justified the move as being helpful to Gruden, a first time head coach, with the idea that his first year would be steadied with Haslett on board and having significant previous head coaching experience.

Gruden gets a pass from me for Haslett.

Of course - then he hired drinking buddy Joe Barry for the job. What in God's name lead him to believe that Barry was suddenly going to become a dominating DC after zero evidence he could do the job at other gigs - I do not know.

By comparison, Manusky has been Bill Parcells. I'm not a fan of firing coaches because of fan outcry that there 'has to be major change'. If Manusky truly is deemed incapable of consistently fielding a top 10 defense, then fine - let him go. But I really hope they aren't going to do so to satisfy fans. Our D has shown some relative progress under Manusky and if you don't think we can do worse, I'd suggest that's a risky belief.
