Boone, the trouble is when it comes to seeing the 'angles' on things in the NFL the Redskins are very rarely on the front end

We have trouble doing the basic things - like keeping our picks, making patient sane decisions, and recognizing our own players when they excel rather than look over the fence at some other team's player and drool about bringing him in here.

No argument here guys - I'm just suggesting that the media experts reporting this stuff may be missing details or have some of the possible intricacies wrong. Might be a factor or possibility they are not seeing.

Otherwise, I suspect what is being reported as a 'plan' is simply looking at every possibility.

No argument there. I was one of a few that called for trading him last offseason. Of course, you'd have thought I beat someone's child and kicked their dog for even thinking about trading Stat Boy. As McD says, a 6 year old could see this is where things would wind up.

The idea that they don't seem to know the risk involved and are floating this idea after trading for Smith, smacks of incompetence.

Well, as Boone said, discussing it, as they should, doesn't mean anything will come of it. None of us, me, you, or media too, should waste any time fretting over something that hasn't happened. And may never.

You've made your decision, made your move, now live with it and move on.

But they are moving on. And at least exploring the possibility of getting more than a compensatory pick next year is, and should be, part of that.

Smart Front Offices seem to always be a step ahead of things. That doesn't happen around Redskins Park much these days.

When looking at everything through anti FO glasses, of course that's what you choose to see.

Being proactive by securing the best available FA QB, before anybody else could get him. Upgrading the position in the process, is another way, to choose, of looking at it.

Yeah it's time to cut bait with Kirk and take our 3rd (2019 draft?). About the ONLY way the skins should even consider a tag-n-trade is if there's signed paperwork from the new team & camp Kirk, that all party's will follow through with the trade. Knowing Kirk's agent is anti skins I wouldn't put it past he and KC to tank the deal in some way.

The thought of a 1st rounder and maybe more in exchange is very nice but the risk outweighs the reward imho.

The chance to get a #1 pick, take a young qb in the draft and build for the future was missed LAST February/March when we could have traded him.

The team deluded itself into believing that Cousins not wanting to discuss a multi-year deal was simply posturing, whereas what it was really his ambivalent feelings about being in DC and wanting to get a fresh start.

If I understand correctly, the only compensation we can get for Kirk is the 4th round pick we chose him. I keep hearing 3rd round for him, I am pretty sure if we get compensation, it will be 4th...not 3rd.

I don't think it's based on what round he was selected El. All I've heard is a 3rd. But I believe compensatory picks occur at the end of a given round, so it may amount to the same thing - no different than if a player is selected with a late round pick...

Compensatory picks are for the next draft - so whatever we get will be incorporated into the 2019 draft.

It's a formula based on the difference between the FA's we lost and gained that offseason. It could be a 3rd. It could be a 7th.
Since you can get a compensatory pick as high as the 3rd, it almost seems like a lot of people are assuming we get the 3rd, the highest pick, based on Kirk being "so awesome". But it's nothing to do with that.

It won't, because Smith was acquired via trade, and the formulas looks at FA's only.
It looks at both the quantity and quality of the FA's. In fact it technically isn't based on Cousins alone - the net difference between what we gained and lost.

After watching the last 2 Pats games, I've concluded this rule change is necessary.
Take the personal fouls ejection to a new level.
If you commit a helmet-to-helmet penalty on an opposing player, which results in him being unable to return to the game, the player committing the foul should be ejected and not allowed to return.
Otherwise, teams are like, "Hey, we can totally remove their best player from the game, and it's only gonna cost us a 15 yard penalty !!!"
Doesn't that work in their favor, by far ?

I think that is fair if it's an illegal hit like targeting a defenseless receiver. That didn't apply to the Cook injury and it was not a penalty.
