Mike McCartney, who is Cousins' agent: “Kirk isn’t necessarily motivated by the same things many other players are.”

Again, who else other than Joe Gibbs has worked for Snyder that has left town without being vilified by the team?

The Redskins can't just move on from former employees, coaches, players, etc.

For some reason they feel the need to destroy them with leaks in the media.

It just goes to the 'garrison state' psychology that surrounds Redskins Park with Snyder as the top dog.

I haven't seen anything quite like this since the Nixon Administration

In all seriousness, Snyder is a lousy owner. Always has been.

Instead of coming in and hiring legit football people to run his operation so he could learn how to be an owner, he simply installed himself in the cockpit without any flying lessons and figured 'heck this plane doesn't have THAT many controls, I should be able to master this in a jiffy.'

17 years later we still have never been to a Super Bowl or an NFC Championship Game.

Meanwhile, the Giants have won two Super Bowls, the Patriots have won five, the Steelers have won two, the Ravens have won two.

What do they all have in common?

The owner and team officials above the level of the coach and GM stay out of personnel decisions.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner! :second:

Bruce Allen came out and said in the press conference when he was hired that Scot was going to have control of the roster.

It appears he and Snyder backtracked on that along the way and that is why we ended up keeping Kory Lichtensteiger at center and Kedric Golston at NT way beyond the point those players were effective.

I wonder how many moves we DON'T know about that Snyder/Allen got involved in that muddled the picture of what was going on with this team behind the scenes.

But what does that mean? That could mean a bunch of things. In that same interview, he said that things are moving along well.

Bruce Allen -- "NFL winner" in his bio -- has in 4 years won political wars over Shanahan and McCloughan, who combined have five SB rings.

Not much there to argue with. I think Redskins fans, almost universally, wish Dan Snyder had never had anything to do with the Redskins. I really think you'd find only a handful of fans who believe otherwise.

Only thing I may take a little bit of issue with is, Allen seizing 'control of the roster' (ie...assuming GM duties) could fairly have been the result of McCloughan's alcoholism. In other words, it's quite possible Allen meant what he said at time of hire, but had to assert himself based on McCloughan's inability to manage the job and to keep it together. That's not a fact - who the hell knows - but I don't think it's fair to assume that was the case simply because Allen has a pathological need to be in charge.

Kel, Kirk wants stability and true leadership in the front office. He wants to know that the team will have his back and the backs of his teammates. He wants to know that there will be no backstabbing.

None of this happens under Gibbs. None of it.

Gibbs would have signed Cousins after his 2015 outburst to get the team to the playoffs.

He realized qb was the most important position on the field and if you had a smart guy, that had talent but was also a 110% effort worker who wasn't satisfied, he could put an offense and team around him to win a Super Bowl.

This is just my opinion, nothing I took off someone else's twitter account -

One of the reasons Snyder and Allen didn't want to sign off on a long-term deal for Cousins is that Kirk doesn't LOOK and CARRY HIMSELF like a star, like someone that is going to sell this team the way a Aaron Rodgers does.

Snyder and Allen looked around town and saw the Capitals paying Ovechkin $130M, the Nationals paying Scherzer $210M and the Wizards maxing John Wall and then compared these much more recognizable and charismatic players to Cousins more humble, under the radar style and decided that Kirk doesn't fit that category of pro athlete.

My guess is if Kirk Cousins was as flamboyant as Alex Ovechkin when Alex first came into the NHL and drew fans and publicity from around the league, Snyder would have signed Kirk in a New York minute.

Look at what kind of hard-on Snyder developed for Robert Griffin III coming out of college.

Geez, you would think Griffin was a combination of Sammy Baugh, Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana and Tom Brady.

Instead he was a guy that ran a rather simple, spread offense with minimum read/recognition responsibilities.

But Snyder didn't care about that.

It was ALL about how charismatic and 'larger than life' Griffin was in interviews and in the period leading up to the draft.

I cannot argue with that. Who wouldn't want that. We want that as fans. But if that's the case, he wouldn't want to go to SF either. They have been much less stable than the Redskins the past several years. Now they hired a TV analyst for their GM. If you look for news on Jed York, it's the same stories you read about Snyder. The only difference is they've had a better week than the Redskins.

Anyway, my whole point is that posturing will take place on both sides to try and get what they both want. If Cousins wants out and will not sign, then he will make that known. From the Redskins side, they will do what they need to do regardless of his situation. I'm not going to worry until something actually happens.

Lynch and Shanahan have SIX year contracts.

That's about as much stability as you are going to find around the league for a new coaching hire and front office exec.

Jed York can be a pain the ass, and from what Harbaugh said he and Trent Baalke basically undermined his ability to get the 49ers a Super Bowl title.

But it appears with these new hires that York is at least being responsive to the fact he screwed up.

I have no doubt Cousins would find SF a far more stable situation right now than DC.

The Redskins right now IMO are taking a step back on the field with the loss of Garcon, Jackson and Baker.

At least for 2017. If Cousins leaves via trade, there is no doubt in my mind the Redskins finish in last place in the East.

Now, that's OK if the 'plan' is to re-launch this thing and start over with a better overall plan for building on both sides of the ball in balance and not depending upon the 5th ranked offense and the 29th ranked defense :)

But in terms of competitiveness, this club is going to be challenged in 2017.

The remaining period of free agency and the draft are going to have to be absolute ACES for the Redskins to put them in as a legit 'contender'.

Right now this roster is 7-9 or 8-8 caliber and that's IF we keep Cousins and draft well.

Holy crap:

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock has emerged as a candidate to become Washington’s general manager, sources tell @FieldYates and me.

--Schefter

Mayock's phone is blowing up right now.

"Dude WTF?"

"JUST SAY NO!"

"You high bro?"

"Get me a date with a Redskinette?"

Yep. Mayock. Don't think it is to replace Bruce. My mind is mixed on this one - if it happens.

Can't allow Bruce to stay or he'll still be making the calls. This it's Dan's chance to fix everything right now.

Just heard on WMAL radio Mike Mayock?

Just saw RG3 was released from Cleveland. No, I am not advocating his return here!

Maybe Kyle Shanahan will sign him...LOL
