Random Commanders Thoughts

This ****ing cable company I swear. Advertised skins game for 2 days now aaaaaand I get krappernik vs seachickens.

Cousins does what Cousins does.

See ya next year.

Kirk doesn't handle pressure, it's clear to me, I'd cut him loose along with the coaching staff, stats mean nothing unless you win.

I don't even know where to start, so I'll start at the top. Jay Gruden sucks. One team looked like they were playing for a playoff spot, and that wasn't the Redskins. How can you not have your team prepared and playing for their lives? Even during the game, the guy continues to show he has no balls. NONE. How do you once again punt on 4th and 2 form the Giants 40. It's almost a repeat of the Steelers game when he made the same cowardly decision on the first drive of the year. Fitting that he would do the same thing in the biggest game of the year. The players know he is a coward, which is why Crowder was so fired up when they sent the punt team out. But he sent the message to the team that he's not playing to win. He doesn't have any balls to win.

My thoughts?

We're not there yet - not even close. Could the 'good' Skins have shown up today and whipped the Giants? Absolutely. But we just aren't ready for prime time yet. Ironically, it was largely the offense and Kirk that let us down today. I'll credit them with making a game of it, but the heat of the kitchen was just too much for them.

We aren't ready to be a perennial playoff team yet. Had we won today, we weren't ready for other playoff teams and chances are we would've gotten shelled by our first opponent. Best case scenario, we somehow pull off a road win and then get shelled.

One thing today showed - our OL is not championship caliber. We can't run against quality rushing D's and we can't pass protect when we're faced with upper tier pass rush talent. Our RBs are just okay, and our WRs are talented, but not particularly physical. Josh Doctson might've made a difference today had he been on the roster all season.

Today, for me, felt a lot like a mercy killing. We're the 3rd best team in the NFC East this year plain and simple. That's just the way it is. I'll give this regime another 1-2 years to turn the corner. If they can't, it's going to be hard to continue the fan commitment for me personally if I'm being honest. Like a lot of you, I'm dedicated, but even I have limits.

Those that want to call for Kirk's head, or Gruden's, or anybody elses, I think you're just reacting in the moment and I won't judge you for it. I get the frustration. I think we're one more year along in the 'journey' and not so sure we aren't on the right path, it may just be a draft or two or three too early for the expectations we have set.

Norv Gruden will get another year. But he will never be more than a Turner clone.

When I post the maps nearly every week, I tell fans to check each for changes. Your area changed on Friday. That is a Seahawks territorial claim and it was not surprising.

Hate it happened to you, but I was not surprised.

Redskins offense:

3 of 11 on third down.

3 turnovers

38 yards rushing.

Points in elimination game at home: 10

Hey, if another team wants to come in and interview Sean McVay for an HC job, my response is be my guest.

It's roughly the same performance today that we saw in previous home losses to the Steelers, Cowboys and Panthers.

We have a lot of work to do.

We need to find a real running game for 2017. A consistent week to week effort and execution to match.

We need to do a much better job in playcalling and qb execution as well.

On one drive we had a third and two in Giants territory and Cousins threw an ugly 30 yard pass downfield while Crowder was open 8 yards past the marker.

Instead of being able to kick a field goal with a short completion we punted.

There's that 3 points we needed at the end of the game.

And then there's the defense.

The GM better find some defensive linemen to be the BPA when he picks in April or its back to 8-8.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

That's a pretty good summation. The 3rd and 2 call especially caught my attention and rankled me as well.

It took until the late 3rd quarter for McVay to dial up a screen vs the Giants pressure.

Good coaches see their QB under constant duress don't wait that long.

Then you add that with coming out flat and bewildered vs the Cards,Carolina and NYG...all with major implications mind you, and one wonders if Jay Gruden could motivate my son's 3/4th grade team?

Yes, we're all frustrated. So close to being in the dance and all they had to do is play competent football....and they couldn't even do that.

We gave Mariah Carey a run for worst performance of the weekend today.

Sight are set high.........

Ergo, Kirk Grossman.

And then there's the defense.
With only a fraction of the resources and talent, even our defense outplayed the vaunted, meaningless statistically, one dimensional Gruden offense today.

I'm all for McVay being gone. Hopefully the Redskins left him at the stadium nursery and someone (like the Browns) will adopt him in the offseason.

You have momentum. Seven minutes to go. Ball on your thirty-one with first down. Three straight passes and zero runs. Why not start with a run and grind it some? Make the clock their enemy. Go down methodically to win it and secure a playoff spot.

But noooooooooooooo. Little Sean wants to hit a home run on every series.

Can't let Norv Gruden off the hook for the play calling. He's as guilty as anyone else.

Disappointed that the season is over but I'm taking the positives.

Scotty said this was a 4 year plan. This was Year 2. Boone is right we're not ready yet. We're a cake being baked.

I could knee jerk react to this loss but I won't.

What I see...

A young quarterback with 2 years of experience under his belt as a starter who is learning and growing. He'll get better the more experience he gets I guarantee it. He's a keeper.

Our offence is borderline elite. We're really dangerous and we still need a few parts. Give us a stud Centre and maybe a blue chip RB and the skies the limit.

Imagine this Offense with a couple more years of maturity under its belt.

Our special teams has been superb. Dusty has been a little shaky this year but I have faith.

If we bring back Garçon, add him to Reed, Davis, Crowder and Harris we have an enviable receiving corps. If Djax comes back all the better.

We're FINALLY developing young talent. May be a little hit and miss, but nothing is a sure thing. But we've not done that in decades. I think we're yet to see the best from Cravens, Fuller and Doctson yet. Not all players are impact players immediately, give em time.

Gruden may not be Belli, but he's not Fisher either. The team plays for him and I personally give him ALOT of credit for weathering the extreme media and fan pressure that being the Redskin coach engenders and turning this team around culturally. We're two winning seasons in a row. Next year we'll make it three.

More significantly... no drama. No circus. Just a professional football team that competes every week. This team never looks like it's given up. Never quits. Yes it has its jitters sometimes, but experience will fix that long term.

I also look at the fact that our schedule was the 3rd hardest in the league this year and we still got a winning record and almost made the playoffs despite a very very poor historically bad defense.

We need a defensive overhaul. We knew that before the season started. So did Scotty and Gru. 4 year plan. Years 3 & 4 are about to play out. I guarantee they'll be fixing this defense. Just get it to be average and it'll make a huge difference.

Changes need to happen. I think Barry needs replacing. I don't think he made the most of what talent we do have on D.

McVay... I'd seriously look at. While our O is almost Elite, it does have flaws which should have been fixed. Balance and using runs and passes at the right time to set each other up would help. Can he learn?

I'm actually pretty proud of this team. I feel like this is the formative years of something solid and real. I don't want a 2012 flash in the pan scenario. I don't want a team like the Panthers that conquers the NFC one season and then folds the next. I want a consistent winner. I want a team that rivals the Packers and the Patriots who are thereabouts every year.

I may be ever the optimist, but when you look around the league you see teams trending up. Teams trending down. And teams treading water. Oh and some teams that are a flash in the pan, one season wonders.

I feel that we're in the up trending category. And over the past 25 years that's new for us.

Yes we have faults... but they're not as big or bad as we think.

I'm BGO and proud! :D
