Hopefully the Rams hire Jon Gruden so that we'd have competition for the next bottom 5 DC/Tampa retread these guys decide they want to hire.

I watched the Bears last night and they're feisty. They really got up for that Packers game.

In a bizarre oddity of scheduling, the Panthers play a role in determining our destiny in all 3 of their remaining games.
After they play us, their remaining games are against the top 2 teams that are vying for our Wild Card spot - Tampa and Atlanta.
So even if Carolina beats us Monday Night, they can still help us get in the playoffs by beating Tampa and/or Atlanta after that.

Unless the Packers leap frog us.

Us winning out is the only surefire scenario.

Lots of things COULD happen. But it's fruitless to worry about anything more than what concerns us, today.

Just win. We can worry about next week, next week.

They scare me too!

The one thing I can't factor for is motivation.

We should be uber motivated. But now that Carolina are mathematically eliminated what's their mindset?

Don't care?
Revelling the idea of playing spoiler?
Pressure off play for fun?

What are they playing for to tonight?

I've been wondering because after watching the Bears scare the Pack last night it seemed like Chicago were really up for that game. a) because of its historic significance and b) because it meant spoiling the playoff hopes of their oldest rival.

So what are the Panthers motivations tonight?

We haven't beaten them since the Gibbs days (I think I read that somewhere) so what does this streak of dominance mean to them?

And if we jump out to a big lead, without anything to play for will they just give it up?
If so this could be a lopsided win.

Motivation is like momentum - hard to track and harder to predict. The bottom line is that our defense has been bad and the Panthers have some offensive tools that frighten me. We can definitely win this game, but I am NOT predicting a blow out or anything like that.

This season has shown me the NFL has what it wants - mediocrity and parity with few blowouts or dominating teams. Yay.

Not a surprise. Bears- Packers is akin to Redskins- Cowboys.

If the Packers win outright, the Lions have to lose to Dallas for us to be able to afford a loss coupled with Tampa losing one of their remaining. Detroit has a tougher road to the playoffs than we do, they have to beat a Packers team that is beginning to hit all cylinders and Dallass.

Minnesota could squeeze past us, but we'd have to lose 2 of the remaining, I don't see that.

So it boils down to us winning outright or losing only one and Tampa losing one and Detroit losing 2.
 
Panthers are not good. They have the 14th ranked offense in points (Skins are ranked 10th), and the 20th ranked offense in yards (Skins are 3rd). Defensively it's a wash - Panthers are 28th ranked in points allowed (Skins are 24th), and 22nd ranked in yards allowed (Skins are 26th). They have played a very tough schedule and their record reflects that. Most relevantly though, they have only won a single road game this year, against the lowly Rams. Cam is also having a tough year. Only completing 53.5% of his passes for 2774 yards. He's also been sacked 29 times already this year.

I know - any given Monday. But this is a must-win home contest on national TV against a decent but underperforming Panthers team. If we don't win this, we don't belong in the playoff hunt imho.
 
Down 50 points in my fantasy league.

C'mon guys, my playoff life is at stake too!! lol

The Panthers shouldn't scare anyone. They are an average team. Or slightly less.

It doesn't just reflect a tough schedule. It reflects they are an average team or less.

Every one of their wins was against a team with a losing record (5).
And they played 6 teams with a winning record, and couldn't beat any of them.
In fact, besides those 6 losses, they also lost to a losing team, and a .500 team.
All of that points to an average team.

Not to mention they lost by 33 points in their last loss, 2 weeks ago.

This is a game we absolutely should win. Not sayin it will be easy. But if we lose, we'll be the first winning team they beat all year, and that would be a tragedy.

And why isn't anyone talking about the motivation factor from the lashing we took from them last year...they should be ones scared.

This is where I have been all along. I don't even care what the other teams in the playoff hunt do. Because if the Redskins don't win it doesn't matter. The rest of it will take care of itself. Win the games and take care of what you can control. If they can't do that, they don't belong in the playoffs.

We're 2-17 lifetime at FedEx on Monday night.

.118 winning percentage.

Gotta start changing that if we want to go do anything meaningful.

Maybe Spaight and Everette gives the D a shot in the arm and tonight starts a three game run to the postseason with a good,first step forward?

One can only hope........
