It cost us nothing. We gave up literally nothing. A conditional 7th is not a sign of desperation. Paying nothing for nothing doesnt hurt our credibility at all. We are weak at C and LG, but you are seriously reaching for material if you think THIS move is a sign of any significance.

I understand that nobody else wanted to try Stork, but I was always of the opinion that it was costing us very little to at least kick the tyres on the guy. Like buying a car, you check it out before handing over the cash.
Turns out he was a clunker so we walked away with our 7th rounder still in pocket.
I agree that we have holes, and I also agree that there's no way we can fill all those holes in one off season, or even two or three. Rebuilding takes time and patience and a willingness to turn over rocks and look for answers. I'd rather be the team that LOOKS for solutions to problems, even if their only a temporary taped up solution until we can get something more permanent. If that means scouring the trash heap and looking to see if there's any tread left on the tyres of some Vet's then so be it.
There's an old saying that pops up in Formula 1 racing all the time. If you're not moving forwards you're moving backwards. At many of these positions we KNOW what we have. Sure we could stand pat and not do anything, but I'd rather try and explore all options that we have. If Stork had have come in and been even slightly better than our incumbents then that would have been a temporary upgrade till we could fix the issue next year.
And honestly I think it makes us more credible that we tried.
Imagine Stork had worked out and had a great year. How many other GM's and Coachs around the league who have teams at need at that position would be on the hotseat with an owner and fanbase that would be saying "So why didn't you even kick the tyres on this guy?". For me this played out just fine. We saw a guy worth a look. We made steps to take a look at him. We protected ourselves incase of a bust. We kicked his tyres. He was a bust and we lost nothing. Jobs a goodun, move on to the next option.
What would have destroyed our credibility was if we'd have offered a high draft pick unconditionally, or signed him to a big contract and THEN he turned to a bust.
As an aside, I'm actually having more fun than I have in a LONG time with my Redskins.
I've said before that even though 2012 was magical, it always felt a little like a false dawn, a mirage of a season. 2013 proved that to be the case. But since then regardless of the record at the end of the year I just feel that the team is moving slowly in the right direction. And for me that makes it fun and interesting again.
Again as an analogy I'm a big F1 fan and a big fan of the McLaren team in particular. They've been dreadful for a few years now, and last year were one of the worst teams on the grid. But every race you can see that they're working in the right direction. A mod here and a new part there and a time gain, moving them slowly closer to the front runners. They're not winning yet and the car still has huge flaws, but I'm excited about their direction at the moment. And I feel the same about the Skins.
I don't feel like Gru or McL are on a hot seat at all at the moment. The season would have to be a complete unmitigated disaster to see either one of them gone in my opinion. I think last year especially earned them some grace, especially as we have a much tougher schedule this year and you can bet dollars to cents that they're both keeping Snyder etc well aware of the gaps in the team and the realities. This feels like a team that isn't deluded by it's own success or skill level to me. 2012 felt like that, it felt a bit like the team bought into it's own hype, the winning streak fed false hope and confidence in a team that couldn't sustain it. I think this team from top to bottom understands who it is and where it is.
I like that.
