Many thought I was crazy when I said we'd land Norman. Maybe I am crazy, but I believe Scot will at least seriously inquire about Fletcher Cox.
 
Why is it that as soon as we get a little depth on the roster, fans want to trade it off?

If Trent Williams goes out for two games, who are you more comfortable with?

Nyseke or Tackoby Cofield?

I'd go with the guy that by all reports, has been looking very good, Nyseke.
 
The only way I'd do it is if it was for an elite player at a young age that would immediately propel us deep into the playoffs for several years to come.

This would fit that bill. That's really the bottom line.

Another way to look at it would be to say we do nothing.

Then we use our first next year on hopefully our own Fletcher Cox.

If successful, how many years would it take that player to reach the playing level of Cox? 2 or 3, if ever?

They protect their franchise QB, we go deep into the playoffs for multiple years and we instead use our first next year on the OL, a great FS or on another pass rusher. Then we'd be on a whole new level.

They are rebuilding. They dont have to do squat. They certainly dont have to trade away one of their best players for a backup nobody. Maybe for a ton of picks. If you want to talk about what picks you think we could live without in exchange for Cox, by all means lets have that discussion. But trading an old backup tackle for a premier pass rusher is unicorns dancing on a snowflake talk.

It's true that they are rebuilding. But they definitely have to do more than squat right? They have to protect the large investment they just made in their franchise QB.

What better way to protect him and to rebuild than to take Ty, plus a 3rd and 6th rounder to make up for those lost picks?

If I'm off base, it's on the compensation they'd want.

Maybe I'm way off and they'd want Ty plus our first next year.

Then that would be a very hard decision.

But they're in trouble and they aren't negotiating from a position of strength.

Who knows? Maybe I am just dreaming. But it's certainly with a phone call.

They still remain the most underrated Super Bowl champion. No one will convince me otherwise. They are always overlooked but the dominance that year was staggering.
 
Somewhat related to the Redskins. I know a lot of our fans wanted this guy:

A little off topic, but does anybody elses arse tighten a bunch during pre-season games desperately worrying about injuries?

Yeah. This is the first year I'm going to actively not watch any of them. The product on the field is gross, and I spend half the time cowering behind my fingers praying no one gets hurt.

I have better things to do with my life.
 
the preseason is all about the last 5-6 spots on the roster.

I would expect to see the Redskins pick up a veteran RB and another veteran OL if no one stands out in the games.

for everyone else, it is just an exercise in not getting hurt.

The 2nd game is where starters play give or take a quarter right? Should be a man ch better gauge in the running game and hoping for a vast improvement.
 
They'll probably play the starters a quarter-plus Friday against the Jets, and then the first half and a couple of series in the third quarter against the Bills. Going to be very interesting to see how they balance the need to try to get the running game going against making the sure the whole offense is geared up and ready for Pittsburgh on opening Monday.

I don't expect to see much from the run game against the Steelers, to be honest. We're not very good at it yet, for one thing, and they don't generally give up much on the ground. If we're going to win that first game, it'll likely be on the strength of a good night in the controlled passing game and a defense able to hold up against Big Ben and Antonio Brown in the fourth quarter. Still, it's be nice to get something out of the run game, if for no other reason than we can all stop hyperventilating about it for a few days. :)
