Winning the division is not the goal, it's a step. It was great fun last year, but over all meaningless when you aren't truly competitive in the upper echelon of teams. If you're building this team, with it's depleted talent level from decades of mismanagement, you lay out a plan for X many years. At X years, you expect to field a team that can compete for it all. Fans see what they perceive to be the biggest needs and want them filled immediately. A competent GM see's the need as well, but his goal is to fill all the needs by X years. If the available talent level at certain needs is not up to his standards, he has patience and fills other needs. Was WR a needed this year? Not particularly, but by the time X year arrives, it's very likely Garcon and/or DJax are not in the mix. So to me, viewing an individual draft under McL isn't at all about how any current position of need is filled. At least until the overall talent is such that we are only a critical piece away. We ain't close to that yet.
