Random Commanders Thoughts

Perry fewell has to be chomping at the bits if they sign him

Why would the so-called #1 CB in the game leave a team that just went to the Super Bowl, with arguably one of the best defenses in the league to join a progressing, but uncertain team?

Money. At this stage, he must see implosion in Carolina or is seeking the money instead of a less risky path to the Super Bowl. I don't trust him. But then again, I am not a fan of mouthy players seeking huge paydays, sounds like trouble to me.

yeah yeah yeah...shut down corener...blah blah blah! A lot of resources are going to be tied up for such a risk.

Mouthy players. Desean. D Hall. Galette.

I totally understand your apprehension. I share it too.

And we would definitely tie up resources.

Aren't we already tying up resources with guys like Culliver? Andre Roberts? Perry Riley? Garcon?

This doesn't feel like a disaster move to me.

Not one of the players you mention are being signed to the contract that Norman is seeking...poor comparison. And to be honest, you see success from Desean, I see a player who played half a season this year because he refuses to take part in off-season conditioning. D-Hall? Yeah...he's been an average player for us for a long time who has been repeately burnt in critical situations or making crucial penalties in those situations. Gallette? Can you tell me what he's done.

Nice try.

Burgundy Burner, when he finds out the Mock he just spent 50 hours on, and just completed, has to be done all over again, due to the Norman signing.

Garcon. Roughly $10 million this season?

Culliver. $8 million this season?

Andre Roberts. $4 million this season?

Perry Riley: $5 million this season?

Like there isn't some fat we can trim?

Fear, that picture cracks me up.

I make that exact expression at least weekly.

Everyone have a great night. If we do pull the trigger, let's hope it isn't too expensive.

Sleep well.

I don't think missing the first week of OTA had anything to do with his hamstring. Probably more to do with lack of being able to exercise properly due to his shoulder injury.

While some are saying the panthers did the right thing I have to question if they did. With the draft next week I would have tried to use him as trade bait to get a few draft picks.

He didn't participate in any off-season conditioning with the team, there were grumbles from the team about it. Then what happens in the first game of the season? He pulls his hamstring on the first deep route he runs. You can excuse it, I can't. Then he nursed it for 8 weeks. It can be argued his presence helped us earn the division crown, but he played half a season.

This board and many others have been lauding the off-season action, or inaction, the Skins have shown...the first sight of a risky, big splash move and everyone forgets what has happened over the years.

I will trust McCloughan to make the right move, but I thought we were supposed to be all about drafting the core of this team, signing players who want to play, not money chasers.

Scot supposedly likes getting a read on a guy during his one on one time with them.

If he's as good at reading 'football players' as many claim, then that will be key and I suspect the money thing is part of his evaluation.

Nope only missed the first week. It was an excused absence no grumblings from inside the organization only outside.
Ryan Kerrigan even gave an interview on it
Redskins Home

different grades of hamstring injuries his was one of the higher ones that while didn't require surgery you can't run on it. I had a friend his baseball career was ended early by hamstring problems higher grade like deseans was last year

I've heard 14-15 mil/year for a 5-year deal. Damn, that's a lot, but I have a gut feeling he'll end up being a Redskin...

Eh, he's just as likely to take our offer back to Carolina and have them match it.

Until/unless he signs here, **** him. We won the division without him.

If we do sign him, he better be EVERYTHING good, that they say he is.
Or we'll just be the same ole Redskins. Where people STILL go to get paid.

EDIT : Nevermind, I see you translated from TV, as opposed to an internet tweet.
So, I won't pick on the mistake of calling Norman a QB, after first calling him Gordon.
I was thinking you were copying and pasting tweets from sportswriters.
Or did Ian actually refer to Norman as a QB ?

Hey, there's all sorts of backs, and fronts too. This football thing is very confusing.

From what I understand Norman isn't happy with his agent...It's hard to make sense of it all. You would think the Panthers would find value in moving him rather than let him go for nothing. The off season gets off to a bad start for the Panthers and the distraction that this brings. When something like this doesn't make sense, it's because all we have is speculation. Norman may be a shut down corner but he will also let his personal shit (like his willful disregard for the team in his penalty after penalty bickering with a wide receiver) ( Throwing a punch at Cam in practice)... I could see him demanding something outrageous because he's been paid rather poorly up until now. My guess is the agent probably followed an ultimatum of sorts that the Panthers didn't want to deal with...I would pass on him if the numbers don't work. I don't like non qbs with 15 mil a year contracts...there is only so much to go around.

Listening to Mike & Mike ... talking Josh Norman with Herm Edwards. Herm is a tool.

$12 million would be cheap. Remember that we paid Lavar something like $10.5 million and he was far from elite. And he was injured.

Hell, we're paying Garcon $10 million.

I'd just like to point out that the $10 million is the amount of his cap hit in the final year of a five year contract. There is a HUGE difference between that and AVERAGING $15 million over five years. Garcon, in the final year of his contract, is currently the third highest paid player on the team. Norman wants half that again. For five years. There's no player with a contract close to that on the Redskins right now.

I'm with Ax on this. If we do sign him, I hope he doesn't suck the life out of this team. If he's great I won't care how much he makes, but he is a guy, full of attitude, who's been in the league for four years and has had exactly one great season. During a contract year. And he wants to get paid. This is the kind of player I'd expect the Redskins to actively avoid. The only reason I'm not in full panic mode is that McLovin is involved, and he's earned a little good will from me. A little.

So we'll see.
