The rule on head to head hits has lead to quite a number of spurious calls.

Guys lead with the shoulder, the receiver dips way down a half second before contact, and the DB or LB ends up hitting him in the head.

Nothing the defender can do about that.

Let's penalize guys for things they have control over.
 
Keim also mentions that they still want all personal fouls to be reviewable on replay.
This would mitigate (some at least) the two strike ejection rule proposal

I agree with the intent with all of this to protect the guys but man, hard to do given the nature of the game and guys trying to protect themselves while justifying the paycheck.

This would be ejection for multiple instances of taunting, throwing punches, etc., not for personal fouls committed before the whistle. This conduct is presumably in the player’s control and if he is out of control he should be ejected.

Makes sense, more of a bonehead personal foul ejection rather than a make a play personal foul.

I love the idea of ejection after 2 personal fouls. I'd take it further and say the player was automatically suspended for the next game too. Yes, some calls are a raw deal but I'm sick of the BS with these guys on the field. Maybe if they have to worry about getting tossed and not playing the following week they will figure out how to think.
 
Good news is not all personal fouls apply to the rule. There will only be 2 types of personal foul penalties that would qualify.
And they have yet to decide exactly which 2 they will be. That will be decided at next week's meeting.

I agree with this. I understand the concern for degrees of a personal foul, but that doesn't negate the foul. I know this isn't soccer, but the yellow card situation where a player can be ejected for reciving 2 in a game and be subject to miss the next game is a very successful policy. Not only does it give the players something to think about, but it also makes a referee consider whether the consequence warrants the call. I can remember many situation where a flat out foul occurred and an immediate ejection was warranted, where a semi-serious foul occurred that deserved a yellow card and then a second less serious foul occurred which forced me to consider an ejection was warranted.

There is subjectivity involved, and good refs will be able to handle it. I also like the idea of accountability from above where video replay shows a better perspective for intent.

I', not worried about that. I watched him hesitate to hit holes all season to think he'll be any better next year. He's too small to take the pounding and they run a straight down field attack in Dallas.

but Dallas does have a much better O-line, so they may open up holes so big, that hesitancy won't be an issue.
 
Not quite sold on that to be honest. First few games of the season he was doing just fine, then the line fell apart, and the production went to hell with both backs because the holes weren't there to hit. I'm not saying he's the player he was 4 years ago, but put him behind a consistently good line, and he'll be better then average for a few seasons. He goes to Dallas, and mark my words, he'll make us look stupid.
 
In any scenario, it would be awkward to see Alf wearing the star.
What's the old saying? Wish him well but not against us.
I'll go even further..... wish him well except in the NFCE wearing anything but B&G

It doesn't mean releasing him was a mistake. We have an offensive scheme and needs that are unique to our team (just like every other team). We have only so much cap room and tough choices have to be made - if we'd released Desean or Garcon, we'd be having the same discussion. You can't keep everyone. Age, miles in the tank, and long term viability may have been a factor.

I don't think he'll be a star elsewhere. But even if he is, I think we (Skins fans) have to trust that the same McLovin who's a draft genius knows what he's doing when it comes to which vets to keep and which to move on from. One thing I do know, sentimentality should never be a factor in who is on our roster.

Put any decent RB behind a great OL and he'll produce - what's that got to do with whether or not a RB is a long-term option or not? All you're really saying is, if an OL is superb, you don't necessarily need a great OL. Alf is no longer a great RB. I don't know why, but it's been obvious for several years now. I think the lack of interest in him from other teams is an indication that how the Skins front office assesses him is pretty much in line with his value right now.
 
Btw - while I believe every word in my last two posts, it would pain me greatly to see Almo in blue and white. Here's to hoping it doesn't happen.
 
Agreed, Alfred was a 100% energy player who really did press all the right buttons for fans of this team who wanted to see guys earn their paychecks after years of free agents coming in and loafing around collecting megabucks.

That said, he clearly didn't fit the offense we are running now. He seemed a step slow at times and hesitant running the past year plus.

Part of it could have been confidence, which the staff obviously didn't have in him.

But that doesn't mean he can't be a 850-1,000 yard player somewhere else.

At the same time, is that worth a multi-year deal for $$$ when a lot of teams are finding 1,000 yard rushers in the middle rounds of the draft working for $650K a year?

Yep..

Alf was one of those middle of the draft value producers , is he more than that I don't know but unfortunately while character is highly valued in a player it's probably not worth near as much as perceived future production.
 
I would feel a lot better about letting him go if we hadn't just spent a third round pick who was supposed to fit Gruden's system like a glove and instead ended up looking lost and tentative.

At some point, maybe it's the system?
