Let's raise the conversational tone bar a couple of notches guys. It's the off-season. We ought to be able to get along in the off-season :)
 
Grimes is 30, Long is going to be 31.

Why invest in guys whose best days are past them?

Didn't we just do that this past season with Dashon Goldson and some others to bridge until we could draft replacements?

Mason Foster a street free agent?

2011 season
Foster was selected in the 3rd round (84th overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was fined $20,000 for a hit on Chad Ochocinco following the second preseason game. Ochocinco offered to pay the fine for him, as he disagreed with the league's decision, but the league stated that he would not be able to. Foster began his rookie season as the Buccaneers' starting middle linebacker. Foster would have a solid rookie campaign at Middle linebacker compiling 84 Combined tackles, 2 Quarterback sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception.

2012 season
Foster's sophomore campaign would yield yet another strong outing. Along with rookie outside linebacker Lavonte David, Foster would post solid numbers only second to David creating a strong linebacker corps. His stats for 2012 were 105 combined tackles and 2 quarterback sacks.

2013 season
For his 3rd straight season Foster would post decent numbers only second to fellow Buccaneer Lavonte David. His 2013 season saw his tackle production decrease to 92 combined tackles, but he again posted 2 Quarterback sacks followed by 1 forced fumble and 3 interceptions with 2 of the interceptions being returned for touchdowns.

2014 season
With the arrival of New Head Coach Lovie Smith and the "Tampa 2" defense Foster would see a decline in his over all play as well as a shortened season due to injuries. The complicated system and injuries sustained late in the year saw a dramatic drop from his usual prowess only compiling 62 combined tackles all year with no interceptions, quarterback sacks, or forced fumbles feeling very out of place in the Tampa 2 resulting in the end of his Buccaneers career.

Chicago Bears
On March 24, 2015, Foster signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears. On September 5, 2015, Foster was waived.

Washington Redskins
2015 season
Foster signed with the Washington Redskins on September 29, 2015. He made his first start with the team at inside linebacker on a Monday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys on December 7, 2015.

Grimes is actually 32 years old. 33 before the season begins.

This is the big problem we face. Too many holes on the defense, and not enough draft picks to fill them.

I know a street free agent is someone who wasn't drafted, and was signed 'off the street'. He was 'unemployed' for 24 days before we signed him, but he did have 5 years worth of experience prior to that. I know what he was trying to say, but a street free agent he wasn't.
 
He was a street free agent.

He was not under contract and picked up during the season on a prorated salary to play the final 8-9 games.

He was no different in that regard from Will Blackmon who was released during final cuts by Seattle and picked up during the year.

Neither of these players was a UDFA, granted.

But that's not the way I was using the term.
 
I think we're going to need a football terminology glossary around here if we're going to survive the offseason. :)

What is a Street Free Agent?

This describes a free agent who had a contract that was cancelled and who is now eligible to sign with any team. In the salary cap era, many players sign longer term deals (say 5 years), but in many cases after 2-3 years the player is released. This type of player is described as a Street Free Agent.
 
I always thought street free agent was a slang, loose term to describe a guy who fans envisioned as flipping burgers or pulling french fries in the middle of the season, when a team called him. :) Then there's the official definition, which I'm aware of.
 
Well, truth is people tend to use terms fairly loosely in conversation. Not just in football context, but in life.

Worst case, it can leads to World Wars. Like when Hitler thought Chamberlain was saying he'd have to eat vegetables.

"Peas in our time? I hate peas! No life for you!"

Then there's football message boards. I admit it--I get a little nuts sometimes when I see people arguing in circles over a term or expression they are clearly not using or interpreting the same way.
 
Patiently waiting for the Kam Chancellor, Lamar Miller rumors to pick up steam.
 
I'd urge everyone to remember that if a guy gets let go by a team there is always a reason and very few of them are positive. While it is true that some guys just need a change of scenery to finally achieve in the NFL they are the minority. Pro Football is one place where the old saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" is wrong more than it's right.

Just think...out there somewhere is a fan of another team looking at our list of released guys and thinking to himself/herself that one or more of those players would help their squad.
 
Good for them. I honestly don't get the fascination with a guy who doesn't break the 225 carries plateau.

Let Dallas find out if he can shoulder the load of a full season or not. Glad it's not us.
 
I think it has something to do with 225 pounds, 4.4 speed, great WR, good blocker, 24 years old and character like Alfred Morris.

4.6 YPC, and a ton of tread left on the tires.

Just a guess though:)
 
You see 4.6 yards per carry ... I see 48 yards per game.

And 48 yards a game does not a running attack make. He's a big upgrade over what they had in Houston last year, though.

Until our coach proves he is even remotely aware of what a running game should look like, I'm not convinced we should spend more than a 6th round draft pick on any RB. The amount of money Miller is going to command takes us out of the conversation immediately, imo.
