I think they are being re-assigned to a non-prime time game and ours is on Monday night.

But still - I agree w/ Fear. Why reassign them? Can you imagine what message that sends to the poor teams who end up getting them on Sunday?
 
Right Henry. I can just see the NFL spinning that as punishment. Going from the Sunday night game to the Monday night game. :) Here's a thought. Fire the head of the crew, or demote him. I'd be pissed as an owner if they moved that crew to my game.
 
Listening to some local talk about Djax's antics after the big catch.... that dance along the end line thing... Sheehan brought a subtle point.

He acknowledged the old school showboat/ no fun league stuff that some complain about but his valid non subjective point was score first, finish the play, then do whatever.... why?

Don't allow any additional time for something stupid behind the play, boneheaded block in the back, retaliation for a cheap shot, anything else to draw a flag and kill the score.

Good advice I say.

one would think.....
that this, and this alone, would be reason in and of itself, never to even think of pulling anything remotely similar to that stunt again.

Thinking that DJax will not be back next season. Why?

First, he will cost $9.25 mil. If they cut him, the hit would be about $2.5 and that could be spread out over two years or in 2016 only. Saving $6.75 mil is very attractive.

Second, his work ethic is very low and Redskins brass and coaches don't seem too pleased about it.

Third, his production outside of catches of 63, 56, and 42 yards is 9 catches for 51 yards - about five yards a catch. Not very productive.

Pretty sure we move on after this season and take a WR in the first or second round.
 
In my personal opinion, all his long ball catches and TD's offset all of those negatives.

Yes, we could save millions by letting him go, but what good would those millions be, if you can't find a player of his calibre, which would be nearly impossible, IMO.

Yes, work ethic is important. But the purpose of work ethic is so you can produce on the field. But if he's producing on the field already, then whatever his work ethic is, shouldn't matter that much.

Yes, if you take away his big gains, he's got a short average. But take away any players big gains, and that puts a huge dent in their average. It's not fair to take away a player's huge gains, because that's part of their whole package. It's important to look at the entire picture, and not intentionally skim away part of the picture.

Without DJax, we would have lost that crucial game against NYG. And perhaps others.

And not only does he make a difference in a game, himself, but he makes receivers around him more productive, based on all the attention that defenses have to focus on him

I don't have access to all the information about his work habits and all that, so I can't speak to that. I am certainly willing to acknowledge it as an important piece of the puzzle though, and if Scot believes DJax's lack of practice habits is detrimental to the team, then dude needs to go.

But I don't think it's a coincidence that our offense seems to be hitting its stride right after Jackson came back. We're a long way from perfect, but we are much improved from where we were earlier in the season.

And I genuinely don't think, unless there is a transformative talent there, that Scot will take a WR in the first. That move doesn't work out well for teams, historically. 2nd round maybe, but I won't be surprised to see Jackson sign a fairly team-friendly deal, and stick around for another year or two while Scot tries to unearth his replacement in the 2nd-4th rounds.

I concur with Fear and Goal on DJax

This links into what I was saying in the 'Bad things' thread.

We really were finding our feet early season and losing DJax and Reed, plus the injuries to the O-Line really hurt. Suddenly we had no deep threat, no consistent short passing target and our O-Line was struggling mightily to open up running lanes (bad combination of rookies on the line, injuries and opponents stacking the line and not worrying about our passing game too much without DJax and Reed).

I know people don't like me throwing out the Pats and Patriots games, but the reality is that they're MUCH better than we are and we were playing in THEIR houses where they're supposed to win. I really think these two games skew the picture of where we are as a team. (I believe they've skewed our record to make it look worse than this team actually is, and because they were road games our road record is terrible. I really believe that we'll win on the road these coming weeks against more reasonable competition and dispel the 'can't win on the road' tag that we have - you watch! :p)

And like Goal said, it's no coincidence that the Skins look much better since DJax and Reed came back. Suddenly Cousins has more weapons that the opponent HAS to respect. DJax has shown the last couple of weeks that he'll burn you deep. Reed (if he can just please please please avoid the penalties) is just about as clutch a shot yardage receiver as you'll ever want. And now because teams have to respect them I think we'll see defenses easing up on our line a little, giving Cousins a little breathing room and allowing our Run game to get back on track a bit.

I still think that the best way to beat the Skins is to just pile on the line, shut down the run and put pressure on Kirk. He's not great yet under pressure. But if you do then you do run the risk of being burnt by that long bomb to DJax. He's a game changer. You only need to find him once or twice a game and points can come in a hurry.

Up until the last 3 or 4 weeks I was ready to cut ties with him. I really thought that he was great, but his inability to stay on the field made him a liability rather than a strength... but now...

(as an aside... there was always a part of me that thought he didn't exactly want to rush back. I mean why bother? He's getting paid and the team weren't great... It always seemed like an easy path for him. If we're a winning team next year I do wonder if he'll be less injury prone all of a sudden... Just musings...)

I just don't see how we replace that deep threat. We just REALLY need him to stay healthy.

If it was my choice he'd be back next year.
 
Boone, the Philly gaffe you're referring to wasn't the showboating side-step along the goal line, it was dropping the ball intentionally prior to crossing the goal line instead of just after like some players liked to do for a while. Was never quite sure what that was supposed to signify ... maybe the football equivalent of "dropping the mic." We don't seem to see that one so much any more, so maybe players have moved on from it.

Hopefully DJax's Goal-line Side-step Shuffle Taunt will go the way of the dodo bird too at some point ... just hopefully not because the league decides it's taunting next time he does it and negates the play with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, or what Sheehan suggested happens and some Skins player 50 yards back upfield gets called for an illegal block while DeSean is busy peacocking along the goal line.

As to next year, I'd be okay having the man back for a reasonable 2-3 year contract, both for the obvious reason of his game-breaking ability, and the perhaps less obvious effect his mere presence on the field has on defenses and the way they have to play us ... opening up the entire offense due to the threat he provides on every play to "take the top off the defense."

Until we score another guy with that kind of acknowledged deep threat (Crowder, pick up the white courtesy phone?), DJax brings something to the table here that I'd hate to see us lose. But it may not be in our hands anyway--other teams will jones for his threat level too and he may simply price himself out of reach for us.

agree 100%. which is why those teams with better DBs have a further advantage.

the run game has to work for this team to win consistently.
 
It's not about what your worth its about replacement value, what will it cost us to replace Djax if we let him walk as far as his skill set, which includes opening the offense for others ? I'm not convinced we can in FA and we won't be drafting a receiver early with our db woes imo, iron out a friendlier extension.
