Goddammit. I hate to be Debbie Downer, but your bar is so low it's ridiculous. So we should get excited because our FO is better than Dan and Bruce? Do you have any idea how pathetic that is? I'm hopeful that Scot is the real deal and will forcibly pull us out of the wilderness hellscape we've been in for frickin' ever, but I'd like to see some tangible improvement on the field before I get too excited. I really feel like that isn't too much to ask for.

Last week, while there were good things to glean from the game, was more of the same from last year.

The proof is already on the field. Scherff, Preston Smith, Matt Jones for starters. Add in a Culliver and Pot Roast here and there, and he's already proven himself to be way above Vinny, Bruce or Shanahan in talent evaluation and roster building.

And what's up with discounting Miami? They averaged 25.5 PPG last season. They're no slouch.

Whelp. If you're telling me the front office is better, and the players on the field are better, then I guess that really only leaves one place to assign blame for crappy ST play, not making any halftime adjustments, and pretty much every other reason we actually lost on Sunday, huh?

We lost our 3 best ST players for the year. Do you think it's fair to blame the ST coach for that? He took over the worst ST unit in 95 year league history.

No idea where you are coming up with the no adjustments complaint.

I don't see where all of the whining and crying is justified from anyone. The FO, coaching staff and team are clearly getting much better in a very short period of time.

If you have no idea where he is coming up with the no adjustments complaint it is possible you didn't watch the same game as the rest of us. There were no second after adjustments made. At least none that stood out and produced anything. This has been on of my complaints for years though and I have just reached the conclusion that Gibbs spoiled me for this, and modern coaches don't have a clue how to do it.

Yeah, the FO and coaching staff are better but only because we cut some deadwood (Haslett, Forester and Morris) and added some quality (Scot, Callahan and Fewell), not because anyone that was here last year suddenly pulled their head from their ass and figured out how to do their job at an NFL level.

Well, I hear you guys, but you know there was another squad on the field last Sunday. Part of our 2nd half woes included them playing a helluva lot better than they did the first half. In other words, their adjustments may have been better than ours.

If we win Sunday I hope it doesn't throw you guys into some kind of spiritual crisis

If Redskins fans could have written a list of 6 places they wanted to see major improvement quickly for a true rebuild, I bet it would have looked like this:

1. Get a real GM. Check.

2. Much better coaching staff, and fire Haz. Check.

3. A great draft. Check.

4. Be much smarter in FA, and sign young guys, not old guys looking for a last financial score. Check.

5. An improved O-line. Check.

6. Field a team of players that doesn't get pushed around. We want beasts. Check.

We've accomplished all of that in just six months. And people are complaining???

Are there still things to improve? Of course. With the exception of a few people (Trent, Alfred, etc..) we were a complete joke of an organization.

Have we come a very far way in an incredibly short period of time? Yes.

No Bob Slowiks. No Haz. No Raheem. No Chris Foerster.

Now it's Callahan, Fewell, and maybe even Joe Barry--who would have predicted how good our D was the first week?

Are those possibly the best assistants we've had in 10 years?

That's an insane amount of improvement in just one single offseason.

Hard to argue that. I think if we had caught that pick six and gone on to win last week--not an unreasonable "if"--the mood around here would be markedly different heading into week two.

Losing for as long as we have makes looking at anything but winning as progress a tough sell.

Unfortunately it's because that thread turned into a hypothetical discussion instead of talking about who played and what they did. Critical analysis about he actual game is less important than people trying to prove they were right about this guy or that guy.

It's really good, yeah. But they aren't the best we have in 10 years. Remember, 10 years covers the end of the second Gibbs administrator. He had assistant coaches who had forgotten more about football than Jay will ever know (yeah, I am totally down on Jay right now, sorry). I'm thrilled we got Callahan. Seriously, if he had been the only coaching addition in the off season I'd have been happy. My question is why did Jay keep Foerster to begin with? There isn't a man/woman on this board who didn't know he needed to be replaced when Jay was hired. So why?

I know I'm being a bitch about this but damn it, it all matters. Keeping Has was stupid and likely cost us games last year. Same with Foerster. The handling of the players. The handling of the media. Yeah, each little thing is just a little thing but they all matter. It all contributes to how this team looks. How it performs.

Ah hell...maybe I'm just tired.
