Oh this guy cracks me up.

Hysterical:

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden is asking his team to block out the noise, which is not an easy concept for a club that has become synonymous with dysfunction.

But Gruden is also learning that it isn't easy to practice what you preach.

"I listen to it a little bit, I read a little bit; some articles. I have to be up to date so when I come up here I know what is going on," Gruden said via CSN Washington. "And I really dislike the guy who called me a fat a--, that really ticked me off. I don't mind you critiquing my coaching style but to make fun of my weight, that's unfair. I'm only 225. Jesus."

Everything about this is great, and now we're all wondering who called Gruden fat. The closest thing we can find is a post from Deadspin's Drew Magary, who refers to the Redskins' head coach as 'Baby Fat.' Then again, it's a post dissecting everything wrong with the organization, so why would a public relations person want him reading that? (Edit: Definitely came from here.)

Hello bizarro world. lmao. What's happened to our fans?

1. He didn't get mad after our players were letting off steam in the locker room. That was the media. No idea where you come up with this nonsense.

2. He just put up the 13th best offense in the league with complete crap. In his first season. The QB sucks. The TEs were injured. Cue the offensive line sucked comments.

3. He took the worst ST in the history of the NFL, and made them average.

4. He just brought in the best assistant coaches we've had since Gibbs. Callahan and Fewell. If he were to die tomorrow, he would leave us with the best assistants we've had in eight years.

5. Imagine you were the head coach going to Washington. Now imagine the daily stupidity you would have to put up with between Dan and Bruce. And you're going to flame this guy?

6. He taught a very simple offense that 2 of the 3 QBs picked up immediately. Very easy, and great coaching. McCoy, who most people had written off, went into a 7-0? or 8-0? Dallas environment and got the win in a primetime game. We never win in primetime. Dallas crushed Seattle the week before.

7. When RG3 blows? WRs are open all over the field. He obviously calls great plays, gets guys open, and keeps guys motivated.

What is it that you don't like again?
 
That incident was one of the reasons I thought that both Griffin and Gruden would ultimately be replaced by McCloughan.

Gruden is yet another example of a coordinator that has problems projecting his style and organizational abilities to a 53 man roster.

Ironic how the Ravens are able to take a guy in Harbaugh that wasn't even a coordinator, he was a position coach, and the guy makes the playoffs 6 of 8 years and wins a Super Bowl.

So, you're impressed mostly with stuff he did this off season, and a 13th ranked O last season. You'r a better man then me being my expectations are a just a bit higher.

I don't hate Gruden.... and we all know we're rebuilding...... The straight shooter made the organization look even worse then the cluster **** we were on the field with his honest pressers. I don't mind honesty, but sometimes, "coach speak" is far more appropriate, which he has learned the hard way. I'm rebuilding a wall. I lay the first course of bricks, then I lay the next course and so on. They call that progress. Year two, we're still laying that first course of bricks. Where was the progress from seasons start to finish. We were the same team from the beginning of the season at the end of the year.... looking lost once again. I didn't see anything to tell me we moved in the right direction last year. He stuck with Haz last year instead of sending him packing due to his insecurity in the position of HC, even though 99.9% of the rational world new Haz wasn't getting the job done..... I can't honestly think of anybody on this forum that was happy we retained Haz last season. I would have been impressed if he canned him the moment he got the HC job, after looking at the facts and saying, this shit doesn't fly. He didn't, he stuck with his buddy, and we sucked on D in a big way once again. He had the power to make the change, and he balked. 13th in total offense got us what ? That number mean doodley squat when the team steps on their collective peckers more often then not, and wins one more game then the past disaster of a season. Ya, he comes from a coaching family... and his brother won a SB with a team somebody else built, then slowly but surly crapped out, and was sent packing. Ya, Jon also took Oakland to the big dance... how did they fare, and how did that job work out after that. Marco Andretti comes from a very well known racing lineage. He has a full time ride only because his dad owns the team. He hasn't won shit. Grudens family lineage gives him a name to fall back on, and a lot of connections.... If it was that big of an asset, we would have seen it translate on the field to some small degree at least. We didn't.....

To impress me...... how about a team that didn't make the same mistakes the team has been making under the last two coaches. How about a team that doesn't look like they have no clue what the assignment is more often then not. A team that looses due to lack of talent not a lack of understanding what the plan is.

I'm truly hoping some how he turns it around....... I have that hope only because I'm a die hard fan of the team, and have that hope every year, not because I saw something last season that told me.... this is the guy to lead us to the promised land.

one of the most worrisome aspects of Mr Grudung's character is that he has an apparent tendency to quit when the going gets rough. well...in some respects...let's hope that proves prophetic!
 
I've seen two people bring up the 13th O ranking as an accomplishment by Gruden. I don't buy into stats generally, as they can be very misleading. But.....
Every team ranked behind us on O in the top 20 have more wins, 21 is a tie at 4, and then you have to go down to the bottom 4 to get teams with less wins then us. That tells me that our O can work, which is no real shock being it's not an uncommon scheme, but the higher ranking really didn't help us win.

I know full well that it takes all three phases of the game to gets the wins. The 13th ranking says that McVay and Gruden did an okay job with what they had to work with. It also says that we failed on D and Teams, which in the end ultimately falls on the head coach.

We were 9th in 2013 with a QB not physically 100% and then a back up to finish the season, and well, we know all about 2012 at 5th. 13th is progress ? But again, I'm not really into stats.....
 
Er ... Gruden took an offense that was 5th in offense in 2012, 9th in offense in 2013 and swooped in and turned it into that 13th ranked juggernaut you saw last year. I'm not sure I would call that an amazing accomplishment, especially considering that one single solitary ranking was the best thing one can say about the 2014 team. The offense also slid in points per game, from 23rd in 2013 to 26th in 2014 ... but who's counting?

As for Lovie Smith... I wouldn't call him "elite" but looser coach is a bit out of line. Six of 9 seasons at 500 or better, with an NFC Championship in there.... let go after a 10 win season. 81 wins in Chicago..... in the same time the Skins have won 54..... sounds more like we have had a bunch of looser coaches.... I would have taken him over Gruden in a mili second, and twice on Sunday.

I agree stabilizing the coaching situation is a big part of the equation to success, once you find the right coach. That brings us right back to the original question, which you haven't answered yet. What has Gruden done to impress you as a head coach last season. You seem to be pretty sure Gruden is the answer, yet you fail to give reason why.

Please, I want the guy to succeed, so tell me why I should have faith in him from what I saw out of him and the team last season. I haven't seen anything that makes me feel he should continue for the entire contract as you say. We had no progress last season, so this season is a "do over". I don't have a problem giving him a second season, it's only fair, but I do have a problem we didn't see any change in the product on the field.... no progress.

I forgot, we were in last place when Gruden signed on, right...

Whatever we think about Lovie, I don't think there would ever be a snowball's chance he would consider coaching Washington.

I don't know if Gruden is the answer to anything. I think he deserves a chance and some latitude because I think he did a respectable job with Cinn offense. There was progression and competitiveness there. As head coach here, one year isn't enough, he convinced Dan of that and got a 5 yr guaranteed contract. I think he deserves more time until the roster is overhauled. He needs to be able to coach HIS team, not a collection of guys someone else wanted. So I give him a pass. I hope you and other posters know I'm not talking about his performance in granting him leeway.

But to specifically answer your question about what he did last year to deserve more time.....the #1 thing I liked is that he wasn't afraid to pull the trigger insert another QB to give us a spark. I hate the coach who refuses to make changes, be stubborn and ride this team into the gutter. As a fan, look at the silver lining. We got to witness all three QB's. That's data for evaluation. If we did not rotate QB's we would not know what we know, and waste more time. I fully expect Jay to have a short leash, and attempt to make something positive happen. Last year it was chaos and he turned into desperation mode. You won't see that this year, even if you see a 3 win season. just my .02

ps and I'll go one step further. We get 3 wins this year and you can look back and will know, yes indeed, we don't have the players. Even McLue has told us that. Don't expect a winner (paraphrasing). It will be a direct indicator how deep this rebuild must go before we see the light. Baby steps.......

This team is such a disaster. I just hope if Kirk is the guy now, that we give him a fair shot. That's all I ask. Changing QBs every other week never works. So let's see what happens I guess. Can't say I have high hopes.

Kirk Cousins will be a placeholder, if we're lucky, for 2-3 years until we find a real QB.

but that's not where the real problem lies. the FO obviously has issues and we are stuck, for the moment, with a second tier coach. Grudung is obviously not a leader. More over, I don't think he is all that smart/innovative either. I believe the good coaches in this league will eat his lunch every time. for example, when it comes to the playoffs. there's a track record there.
