Random Commanders Thoughts

However, after practice teammate DeAngelo Hall told CSN Washington's Tarik El-Bashir that he heard that the injury may not have been as bad as it initially seemed to be and that preliminary diagnosis was that the injury was not to his ACL.

that could be good...

He beat a woman with a belt. Not sure why I'm not allowed to be upset about having a piece of shit on my team?

You have every right to be pissed about it. Trust me, I would have rather we stayed away from him. That being said, I can't stress over something I have no control over. Maybe he doesn't ever have another problem in his career... maybe he does... As signings go, it won't set us back to bad if it goes bad.... fairly low risk. Again, I would have rather passed on him. I have no use for guys that hit women.

Im going to say something here that might push some of the wrong buttons, but I do want to pose the question. How many people actually saw the video that surfaced?

Watching the video, I saw him repeatedly back off as multiple people attacked him from many directions. I saw him swinging a belt in, what appears to be, a very aggressive attempt at self defense. Then it gets a little dirty. A woman walks up, gets in his face, and he seemingly swings the belt at her. Now this is where I might irritate people. I want to preface this by saying I in NO way condone hitting women. He's easily larger then her and it is not ok. With that being said... Lets look at this from another angle here. He was surrounded, by MULTIPLE PEOPLE ATTEMPTING TO DO HARM TO HIM. When that woman approached him, as a human, if I was in his position, I don't know what would be going through my mind.

He then hits her with that same belt twice, and he gets pulled away by what appears to be his buddy. Hitting her twice absolutely is not ok, but this is not a Ray Rice situation. There are other circumstances here that would absolutely influence his emotion, causing him to react irrationally.

At some point, do you reach a point where it goes from logical thinking, to self preservation?? I've been in situations where its come to throwing fists, and it's very easy to lose rational thought. Has he ever been accused of domestic violence? Any other instance that would give you any sort of belief that he felt hitting women was ok?

He messed up.. he has other things surrounding this event that are absolute question marks.... but the NFL didn't see fit to suspend him, the Saints are still paying him, and we signed a potential pro-bowl LB for $575K for this season. These are moves that we've looked at in the past and seen an organization pass on, and it bite us. Is it the right move? I dont know.... but the reward could be great...

And now I see this same conversation happening in the other thread... my bad

Has anyone actually verified that he is the guy in the video?

I've heard everything from it being him to .... a big guy that looks just like him.

Even if it is not JR, the guy in the video still looks to be reacting to a situation that got out of control.

From what I understand, not indisputably. He did post a picture on social media the same day of the incident, wearing what appeared to be the same shirt and hat.... also had someone from his camp say he was 'defending himself" then his lawyer came out and said it wasnt him.

he was also voted captain and won an award for media appreciation

An award for media appreciation? That sounds pretty prestigious.

I like the signing, but that's grasping for straws a little bit, isn't it?

When you're judging character, any time you are voted to a position, or an award, it speaks towards that character. Does it mean anything to his legacy? Nope. Does it give you an idea that the guy is not a complete A-hole? I'd say it does.

I'm also not sure grasping at straws is the best term to use, either. It's something he won and obviously it was when he had a good moment.

He could have more of them and fit in nicely here. Or he could explode and get cut. Either way we didn't spend shit on him.

He's likely the biggest thug, and stupidest player we've signed in the last 20 years. I mean incredibly stupid.

Junior Galette Unleashes An Epic Twitter Rant About The Saints

I like the signing for its low risk, and huge upside.

I especially like the signing because we may receive a compensatory draft pick if he leaves us. That would be huge. I haven't seen anyone report that yet, but believe they will in the next few days.

But I don't see any reason to sugarcoat it. We signed a D-bag.

Biggest thug in 20 years? You must not know what a thug is if you spout that off.

His girl spouted that rant, btw.

Also, you didn't have any issue signing Winston who has more charges against him than junior does. Does that seem hypocritical to you at all?

I'm not saying he's at all the second coming of Ghandi.. I'm not even saying he's a 'stand up guy.' All I'm saying is that people close to him, that deal with him on a daily basis, found it necessary to give him recognition, not only from the media, but also from his teammates who made him a team captain.

I like the move a lot. I think a lot of good can come out of it, and if this goes in our favor... it could be a lot of evidence in how this franchise has started going in the RIGHT direction. If it goes against us.. I guess par for the course?

Sean Taylor was WIDELY accused of being a 'thug.' So was Deangelo Hall, Desean Jackson maybe? Albert Haynesworth stepped on another player's head.... Fred Smoot got caught on a boat with a bunch of strippers.

I also like the signing. And I like that he was one of several defensive captains on the team.

I'm assuming that the media appreciation award means that he was always willing to give interviews. But I certainly could be wrong.

Either way, I wish him the best as a Skin. Let's hope he can fly straight.
