Boone is correct.

The Redskins spent too much of 2014 playing older vets and mediocre starters in the hopes of pulling out one or two more wins.

But as I commented earlier part of that I think was the denial until the very end of how bad this team really is.

I get the impression that even at 3-7 players, coaches and Allen thought this was an 8-8 caliber team if not for a couple of injuries.

Enter Scot McCoughlin and his comments about building a team from the ground up. Focusing on the draft and character players.

A GM says that when he knows a rebuild is on the way and not a mere retooling with several free agents and a couple of injured players coming back.

The Redskins may be 5-11 next season but my hope is that it is a 5-11 leading us somewhere, ie playing and developing younger talent rather than starting some of our current waiver wire veterans.

Gruden was a rookie head coach. What rookie head coach is gonna capitulate and throw in the towel during the season then say "we're looking at who's gonna be here next year"? NONE. Doesn't work like that. Gruden was compelled to keep the most experienced players in there, notwithstanding how bad they may have sucked. Good grief he had to use year one to find out what kind of team he had (as in how good, that's your litmus test) not to try out the rookies to develop them. That's step one. Like I said, if he hasn't learned anything from what he found out, then he's going into next year behind the 8 ball to field a team. Maybe already behind it as a shakeup is coming. May have to write off yr 1.

Greg Roman, the Bills new OC they got from San Fransisco was with the Ravens in 2006-2007 as Offensive line assistant while Foerster was their OL coach.

That's called a 'sucker's choice' - those weren't the only two options. You can try to win games and work rookies into the substitution scheme. We already had tape on every single 'starter' on this team - REAMS of it. We're not talking about scrubs, we're talking about players we spent crucial draft picks on. You don't relegate those players to practice and the inactive list. You work them into the rotation and see what you've got. You're right though - rookie head coaches don't do that, experienced capable coaches do

No, the record is secondary. If the team is able to replace a number of the 30 something's on the roster and get young picks and UFDAs out there, albeit raw and in need of game reps, and these guys show they are keepers then I would call Year 1 a win.

Anyone expecting a push in 2015 for a playoff berth I think is going to be disappointed.

What I want to see from the Redskins is a team that is much better at the end of the season than the beginning.

Momentum drawn from younger talent and character vets.

The last two years the final month of the season was like being at a funeral.

Nothing but grey skies and a lack of hope.

as it stands now - we have 7 draft picks. and we know....best case......if we get 2-3 starters out of it we're doing well. throw in a couple FAs. so.....unless coaching alone improves quality of play radically....I'm thinking 7-9/8-8 is good.

I agree wholeheartedly. I do think we can make a playoff push depending on what happens this offseason but its not, imho, the benchmark to a successful season...

What has been said on here before? We only go so far as Robert Griffin takes us? Well, where does that leave us for 2015? I think he may have alot of upside still, and to the extent he can get on the same page as Gruden and master his technical skills, then we may see something vastly different than last two years. I wouldn't be betting on it, but that's the only place where I see we may be able to show improvement as a team. We have to have a bonified starting QB. That's where it all begins, and we may be at square one. Will be interesting if we go into camp as open competition, and if we draft another QB. You can start taking your clues from Jay Gruden now. Every little nuance and change can be analyzed because it will be an indicator of things to come. I pretty much feel everyone's job is on the line, every position will be open imho.

2015 will shake out the qb position.

I don't see the Redskins drafting a qb or signing a free agent.

My guess is Griffin will go in as the nominal starter at camp but Cousins in a fair competition could get the nod.

I see McCoy as a backup.

I'm not yet 100% sold on the idea that both Robert Griffin and Kirk Cousins are busts. They have had to deal with an exorbitant amount of drama in their young careers, they've not had a stable environment that promotes continuity in which to work in and they are both relatively young and inexperienced. In fact, the Redskins had one of the youngest and least experienced groups of quarterbacks in the NFL last year (on teams' active rosters).

Worked under Trestman in Chicago,so he's versed in the WCO and made Josh McNown look good enough to get starter money in Tampa.
