I don't have quite the time do a year-by-year draft analysis of the 49ers since Scot's departure, however I did a bit more digging and looked at San Fransisco's 2014 roster and only at players drafted by the 49ers after Scot left compared to players drafted while he was there. I did not include FA, trades, waiver pick-ups or anything like that just drafted players.




For the 49ers, 17 players on the 2014 roster were drafted by San Fransisco during Scot's tenure-of which the following were listed as starters.

RB Frank Gore

WR Michael Crabtree

TE Vernon Davis

LT Joe Staley

LG Mike Iupati

DT Ray McDonald

The starters listed drafted by the 49ers after Scot left:

QB Colin Kaepernick

CB Chris Culliver

FS Eric Reid


For the Seahawks, since Scot left them just last year time will tell.

I give him whatever he wants. It fits in with the Gruden plan, which is 3 more years, then after the roster is built, both can leave or we go to the promised land. But really, I don't hold age against him. Why? Because its a truism that you have to get old to get wisdom. Wade's no spring chicken either. I'm in.

He's old. It also could be that his defense is old. Polamalu, Ike Taylor, Brett Keisel, and James Harrison are all old and may not be back. Which means a rebuild that he may not want to go through. Sticking around for another run with an established defense may interest him. Having to teach a bunch of new guys may not.

Plus the defense hasn't been that good the past two years. I mean, compared to what we have seen here, it's been all-world. But based on how the defense has performed under him in the past, they weren't good.

I found these Defensive rankings listed on a Steelers blog. I searched and this is what turned up. Now I must go shower for having clicked on that garbage:

It’s easy to say that before really digging in to the roster and seeing what’s there and, more importantly, what isn’t. But does that statement pass the smell test? Let’s compare the 49ers in 2004, the year before McCloughan came to that organization, to the Redskins team he is now in charge of.

Here are a few numbers to chew on.

The first glance tells you that these are two pretty bad football teams. Neither ranked in the top 10 in anything listed here. Mostly they were well below average. We don’t want to get too much into the weeds on analyzing the numbers here but they do show that the ’14 Redskins were probably a bit better than the ’04 Niners but both had well-deserved poor records.
