Random Commanders Thoughts

Redskins placed OT Morgan Moses on injured reserve with a Lisfranc injury, ending his season.

Moses, the 66th pick in May's draft, played 131 offensive snaps as a rookie, making one start at left tackle in Week 12. He gave up two sacks that day. Moses may have a future at right tackle, but was unable to unseat Tyler Polumbus on the right side in year one. Lisfranc injuries have proven to be trick in the past.

Is it too far fetched to believe the expectations for Griffin are just too high? I was really excited to see the new RO Qbs coming into the league. Griffin changed the landscape in 2012.But Defenses were embarrassed and made adjustments. I've seen it with my own eyes he can throw an accurate pass on the run and in the pocket. He evidently is hard to block for due to his inexperience and comfort in the pocket I can't say I blame him for not trusting his blind side. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that in my opinion. Defenses have found new ways to expose qbs playing behind crappy Olines...Griffin looks lost just like most of the young qbs. I don't understand it but that's what I see. I would think it would be easier with the rule changes but Eli, Kapernick, Flacco, Ryan, Cutler, Brees are all struggling.

I definitely see some value in playing him. To be accurate though, it was probably 4 games and 150 practices if you count preseason.

True, but remember back to preseason. Griffin didn't see much playing time as well as the whole starting offense. IIRC, didn't Griffin only throw like 20 passes or something in the preseason? I remember seeing plenty of starting QBs throw that many passes in 1 game. Almost seems like Jay was looking for a way to bench him from Day 1.

Colt is hard to block for as well considering all the sacks he took as a starter the last 2 games. I believe the numbers are 7 and 6 respectively.

Defenses adjust for everything and that is what a good DC does. They adjust to not jumping at Peyton's "omaha", they adjust to Favre when he used to love to roll out to his right and sling it to a crossing TE, the teams are constantly adjusting and trying to fool each other. To me, that doesn't mean you abandon what you were trying to do...you tweak it. Griffin needed to get better in the pocket and learn to slide. That is 100% truth and all of us know it. But you don't just completely stop running and force him to only be a pocket QB. You incorporate both like Kraperneck did against GB when he had that HUGE rushing game against them. You take what you're given but you don't abandon what got you there.

Plus, you don't abandon it with one QB but allow the other one to do it. You dont criticize the one QB while blaming the OL with the other. I think Griffin's expectations are so lost and his goals are so shot down that he has no idea what is expected of him or what he can even do right about now. I just dont htink the kid even knows anything that is happening on the field or off because his coach has sold him out to the press and media after getting mad at him for speaking to the press and media.

That's just my take on things right now with this.

RIGHT?!!

123 pass attempts and Gruden is like "nailed it! I don't need to see anything else."

Jay has to go man. To say you've seen enough of RG3, but hasn't seen enough of McCoy? I really don't understand this dude.

Wtf, I swear. That's an awful injury to recover from.

Roach Gruden has said he is going with Colt.

Noodle Arm and bad neck > Griffin. I can't think of one logical reason why Colt should get the start over Griffin.

I am 100% against keeping Gruden next year. **** him AND his brother.

If I could like this 1000 times I would.

You said everything I've been saying perfectly. What is there to gain with Colt starting at this point? Does anyone really believe Colt is the answer at QB? We're gonna play noodle arm Colt in the Meadowlands with a hurt neck? Yeah that's going to go swell.

Give the ball to Griffin and tell him this is his chance now. Sink or swim with him. If he plays well, he goes into next year with confidence, the team goes into next year with some confidence and the fans go into next season with some hope. Isn't that what Snyder/Allen want? How in the world do they plan to sell tickets next season if they're touting Colt McCoy as the guy? You saw FedEx last week. Do they want a full season of the next year? Then let RG3 finish out this season and see what he has.

Gruden needs to grow a pair of balls and adjust his scheme. He said he would when he was hired. What happened? Why is he willing to call roll outs and PA for Colt, but not RG3? Call plays to RG3's strengths and see what happens. Obviously whatever Gruden has been doing so far hasn't worked. So change it up and bit. What's the worst that can happen with Griffin starting? He gets hurt? Okay then we know he's injury prone and can't finish a season. He plays poorly? Ok we know he can't play in this system. There is almost no downside to starting RG3. There's downside to starting Colt because then you still have controversy going into next season. Do the right thing Jay, start Robert.

Matty, where have you been???? Gruden said and its common knowledge, that Gruded dumbed down the playbook at the 101 level for Griffin and still he just doesn't get it. What else are you supposed to do? Hold his hand?

Jon Gruden: My brother?s in the middle of a mess in Washington | ProFootballTalk

I listened to that segment and that is a major distortion of what Jon Gruden said... He never even mentioned Griffin. He was responding specifically to a question about what a coach should do if he had an owner 'directing him' who to start. First of all, that's a hypothetical not a certainty, secondly there was nothing said as how Jay Gruden views Griffins future.

Now it may turn out its all true, but what PFT is implying is that this is what Jon Gruden's generic comments must have meant.

Gruden is also a liar and making things out to be personal. So anything he says about having to dumb down a playbook is:

1 - absolutely idiotic to say about a player that is currently on your roster and still active.
2 - untrue since he has only thrown the ball 123 times. He has no true gauge on him with that few pass attempts.
3 - as unprofessional as it gets if true.
4 - coaches ARE supposed to do what it takes to get the best out of their players. Pretty much the opposite of what he has done.

Let's make this as simple as possible for Gruden to understand:

If he plays RG3 these last few weeks and he continues to play poorly, that looks bad on RG3.

If he plays McCoy these last few weeks and he continues to play porly, that looks bad on Gruden.

If he plays RG3 these last few weeks and RG3 plays well, then that looks good on RG3 and Gruden.

If he plays McCoy these last few weeks and McCoy plays well, then no one really cares.

It seems RG3 is playing out a lot like Tim Tebow.
Both fan favorites, who are likeable, both in personality, and certain football giftings.
Yet NFL minds are able to see through that and realize that the players don't have the fundamentals to make it in the NFL, even while fans cling relentlessly to the player they're convinced can overcome those basic flaws.
And Tebow was actually winning games and getting to the playoffs when they pulled the plug on him.

Time will definitely tell.

If RG3 looks great later in his career, then Gruden will go down as one of the stupidest coaches in history.

If RG3 is done, then he'll look like one of the smartest coaches in history for not signing him to a huge contract.

Seriously?

I don't know about anyone else but it seems as if with time it will be easier to work out the kinks in Cousin's game than either Griffin or McCoy.

Cousins can make the throws. He has exhibited decent pocket presence and credible fundamentals.

His penchant for interceptions seems more easily tamed with a bit of experience.

It's funny when the media people say that Cousins had his chance to start and blew it.

The guy has started HALF a season worth of games total in his career.

McCoy already has 35 starts and Griffin has 20.

So, who are we really being impatient with at qb?
