Random Commanders Thoughts

Random thought?

I would find it totally acceptable to fire Haslett and replace him with Hairy Rob Lowe for the rest of this season.

Hair Curtains.......

We do need something extreme here unless the goal now is to just play the young guys and go for draft position.

The danger though is promoting Raheem Morris as interim DC.

More than likely, it wouldn't have made a difference. Unless we get incredibly lucky and find a head coach with uber-leadership abilities, it isn't going to matter.

The reports I am hearing are that Zimmer has taken control of the team and the players respect him. He's a tough nosed football guy...probably why Snyder didn't want him.

geeze, ok........

Smart fans know the starting QB is credited with the win regardless of stats.

Smart fans know the defense did not score a point.

Smart fans know Dallas made no adjustment to the blitz.

Do you want me to go on and on for your edification? You perpetuate your opinion as some kind of all knowing truisms without any substantiation as to fact or even just give us some stats. You float the most myths of anyone on here. I have yet to see your expletive filled tirades supported by anything of merit. Lets get down to brass tacks, not bold faced lies. You continually act like someone on here has advocated Colt as the future of this franchise and I can't understand your premise much less your conclusions. All I was doing was giving Colt his due credit just a little pat on the back, something positive, but you just can't stand it. This isn't about your agenda.

Sorry my Redskins brother I'm calling it like I see it, and to invoke the Boone rule of posting etiquette.....YOU DON"T HAVE TO AGREE! But when you disagree, say something noteworthy based on reality, not reality tv.

Off my soapbox, you may proceed as you were.

no problem calling it as you see it! we're all big boys....right?

got it....you are entitled to employ cliches and subjective phraseology but everyone else with strong but opposing views had better move to the rear of the bus.

smart fans know the QB is credited with the win regardless of stats? well....there's a partial truth in there! congrats! not the sense of "win" originally intended....but...ok....we can all play verbal games. Colt, by this standard, lost the game against Indy and will lose agin against the Rams.

shhhhhh....here's a well kept secret...the final score in a game has a minimum of two components: how much the offense scores...and how little the defense allows the opposing offense to register. so long as the one exceeds the other - a team is gold! I kid you not! really! any smart fan knows it.

the counter to your claim is that stats don't explain a dang thing. I don't know how many times the point has to be drilled into some minds that stats and explanations are worlds apart. you demand stats - I demand some logic and causal analysis. in deference to your fragile ego I'll forgo the lecture on which lends itself more readily to solving problems.

logic and analysis my brother....not isolated, unconnected stats. context helps as well. but that's a discussion, yet again, for another time.

and I loved the field goal Forbath kicked to win the game! I was so happy for Colt that, unlike earlier in the game with the team in scoring position, he didn't toss a pick. now that's a quick learner!

Hell I'd take skinny armed Rob...couldn't do any worse than HAZMAT.

Him and Raheem need to hit the bricks...& take TyPo with them.

FFS Al, you cannot have it both ways. You suggest Robert is the driving force in the 2012 season, ignoring the fact that London Fletcher (True leadership) and our defense played lights out defense at critical moments during the 7 game stretch...a 7 game stretch where Robert was out for a portion of it. You ignore Shanahan's understanding of RG3's limits and use the only scheme he understands.

Yet Colt plays a very solid game against the Turds on Monday night and he played only a small role in it.

That is why I am glad that the people on this site are WAY smarter than this. The Redskins, our team, the fans, and the front office have a lot of issues but that never even crossed my mind as to why he was benched. I doubt that even crossed Griffin's mind in why the benching happened.

agree with you Mike. the irony is that...if all recall...the rumbling was that Griffin wasn't "black enough".

everyone is frustrated w/another failing season. opens doors for all sorts of folks w/agendas.

find a quote where I said he was the driving force bud. All references I have made to that stretch were to dispute the claim that Griffin has never passed well from the pocket, read defenses well, etc. one of the reasons I have referred to 2012 has been to make the point that what we have seen this season is a major departure from what we saw in 2012 - attempting to add some nuance to all the claims that Griffin is done and cooked career-wise because of 4 games this season. and to get others to join the speculation on what has really been going on: we know some of it is Griffin, we know some of it is a bad o-line...what else don't we know? whether Griffin stays or goes....it would be nice to ultimately understand why such a promising talent...with bona fide results.....fell so steeply and abruptly. there's an interesting story to be told here.

in the grand scheme of things...Colt McCOy is a bit player with short-term entertainment value. no QB is going to win in DC until the deeper currents roiling the Redskin waters are calmed. I try not to be distracted by McCoy. for me he represents the typical fan favorite - the latest rider on a white horse - when the former rider has been summarily disposed of. we are very likely to end with another scintillating 3-13 season. griffin will only have played in 4 of those games. there's a lot more going on here than Griffin. It's unfortunate that Washington has demolished yet another QB....but that's not even the most critical issue. until we get at what is rotting the core of this franchise year after year...we can pretty much continue to expect the same results.

as an aside: one man's "played a very solid game" can easily become another man's "played well enough not to lose." if folks are satisfied with Alex Smith...then we should go get him!!!!

As fans we have a need to vent while enduring another dismal season. I get that but what I don't get is the impatience...We were a 3 win team last season that took a nose dive the last several games. Our starting qb got benched our offensive coaches got fired our head coach got fired. We weren't a good team. We still aren't a good team but I believe we know more about the team. Our Defense is a one trick pony and we don't seem to have the right guy for picking talent.
I think I'm the only one left that believes in Gruden...That's ok. I still believe in a honeymoon period. The season is done as we ride out the storm. Unlike last season I bet we don't go in the tank. It's a mixed blessing however. I don't want the defense to play well enough to cause Hazmat to be retained, after last weeks debacle I have a hard time seeing him gathering any job security.
I've always had issues with fire this guy or cut that guy without having a suitable replacement in mind.
Gruden is taking some lumps that's for sure...He has failed to transition Griffin from a Read option QB. Honestly I'm seeing a trend all the coaches are struggling with the RO Qbs...Newton, Griffin, Kapernick and even Russell. So what does it mean? I don't know but I can say the transition works better with a Dominating Defense like Seattle and San Fran...Obviously Seattle won a Superbowl and is a favorite to compete again.
I hear you guys saying We need another qb because all of ours suck...Really? I think Gruden has shown he can get decent production out of McCoy or Cousins and neither guy has had a full season of playing time. So with the first pick in the draft the Redskins select another QB? How about they address the line of scrimmage instead and play the hand they are dealt at qb. We aren't a team contending for a championship. We are a team trying to compete. Most of our problems are related to bad player selections on both lines of scrimmage. We can't get a decent pass rush with just 4 players... We can't pass pro or even runblock without a gimmicky offense to help hide the flaws.
Fix the Oline and the Dline in this draft and then look for a qb the following season.

And, then I look at Philly, Seattle, SF, etc.

Why can't we have a first year coach who goes to the playoffs and fields competitive teams?

Guess why.
They all have better than average Olines.

God. NFL network has a shtick on Tuesday to replay every touchdown from he previous week. It's like getting kicked in he balls all over again.

Since 2012, after the acquisition of Robert, this has been the mantra. Fix the o-line and d-line.

Now, it's get a franchise qb and fix the o-line and d-line.

We've taken a huge step backwards, and good coaches with bad talent generally have teams that suck.

I'm betting right now that Haslett is back next year. He got 'dealt' a bad hand of players.

Oh, and for the record, I'd have to say I was one of the most patient fans during the last 20 years. I made the excuses, I defended the imperial owner. I spent most of my time criticizing our dreaded rival.

But, I'm old now, and I realize I may never see another SB win.

The frustration has bubbled up to the top.

All Snyder does is bring in a new face after 4 years and everyone is told to wait.

I feel your pain bro, but the truth is, we aren't good enough to plug and play a new head coach for a 1st year playoff run. I'm tired of the rinse and repeat as well but it's chicken or the egg. In a perfect world, Bruce Allen gets promoted from GM to Team President and we bring in a football evaluating GM. Those other teams have the talent in place and just need the scheme... fixing our dumpster fire isn't going to happen over night.

Why do I get the worst feeling in my gut that Winston will end up on this team?

How any one who watches any film of the Florida v Florida St game could ever consider spending a top 10 pick on Winston let alone with all the off field red flags around this guy is beyond me. Whatever the question(s) we face as an organisation and roster Winston is not part of the answer.

interesting sequence of posts..so let's assume we have adequate talent evaluators in place (otherwise...all bets are off)...what's the best strategy for rebuilding the team?

- focus on one element of the team? (e.g., o-line)

- focus on plugging the worst holes? (e.g., draft safety in the first rnd, RG or LG in second round, etc)

- focus on skill players?

- focus on depth or starters?

- sacrifice a draft for a QB? or settle for brand X currently on the roster and hope you can compete against teams in the playoffs who have top tier QBs?

- replace...across the board....all players who do not fit the coaching staffs preferred schemes or keep to a consistent identity despite coaching changes?

to be honest...I don't think this team has had anything approaching a long-term strategy when it comes to how the roster is built and sustained.

for the most part....they may not win it...but when I look at who is in the mix year after year....names like Brady, Manning and Rodgers keep popping up. The Rivers and Breeses of the world keep their teams competitive as well while events around constantly operate to undermine them.

or we as fans have an overwhelming amount of opinions on what WE would do. I highly doubt that Gruden has no idea what direction he's going to be going on. Now it's just going to come down to what he's able to accomplish with the resources at his disposal.

I've gone back and forth with you about this team but I do have to say I'm with you about the one of the major core issues is the lack of talent evaluation. Now whether we have had people in the past who are capable of evaluating talent and they get circumvented by the meddling owner/incapable GM (primarily Vinny), or they were never here to begin with is anyone's guess. Allen has never been a football guy, and that' is something we need. This past draft is proving to be a better one then it originally seemed week 4 of this season, but who knows who was making those decisions.

My answer to your question..... number 2 mixed with number 5. Focus on plugging the worst holes WITH players that fit the scheme. They dont have to be prototypical, but if the current players cannot execute enough to be, at minimum, effective, then something needs to happen. This is rebuilding. It sucks, it hurts, it's frustrating, but it has to happen.
