What message does this send to Griffin? 3 years, 3 different offensive schemes, an O-Line that can't protect him and pressures on him to make the right decisions 100% of the time. I understand he has made mistakes... that's not my issue here.. my issue is that I feel the media and fans are holding him to a higher standard than they would given different circumstances. I have no problems if Gruden really wants to work with him and that an extension will be offered. But I'm NOT sure this is the way to handle it.

Just my two cents.

Here's the Schefter article. Call me confused about saying you are benching RGIII, but he's in your plans for the long term. Maybe, just maybe, it's because Gruden feels like he needs to evaluate other parts of the team and Griffin is too shell shocked now.

today is coach's birthday. I met him again in 2012 at an event he was doing for my friend's company. his team uses my friends company as a sponsor and to kick things off he came out to meet them. Most people (about 85%) had no idea who he really was but I sure did. My friend asked for me advice on what to bring up to him and after I gave him 3245245245 things he said, "you better just come".

So, here I am. In my hat from 2005 that I have never washed, and a 1983 Coca-Cola bottle from our Super Bowl year. He looks at me in line (I'm the only guy in skins gear) and winks. I get up to him and he says, "what is that?" I tell him what it is and he is amazed. I said, "If you want it I can send the other one I have to your shop in NC if you'd like, coach" and he just smiles at me and says, "I am pretty sure I could get one if I asked the right person"

so nice...so cool...so polite. He grabbed like 5 things to sign for me and we just talked for a good 60 seconds. I told him how he was always like an Uncle in my family and how I can remember him being in my life somehow since I was around 10. He was very kind and very easy going. Happy birthday, coach.

Two quick stories about the Coach...

My niece, grandniece and great-grand nephew took a trip to Wilmington, NC to the beach but we decided to take a side trip to Charlotte to JGR. It was pretty quiet... of course we picked the one weekend that the gift shop, etc., was closed, but we were able to look down into the garage area and see various stages of car painting/development, etc. I was at one end of the lobby looking at the window displays/history and awards that the JGR racing team had won.... my niece was on the other end (doing the same).. with the reception desk between us. We were each about 20 yards from the desk. My niece texts me.. and says, "look who's at the front desk". Yup, the Coach. Well, I don't believe in disturbing a celebrity while they are working (and with my work with science fiction conventions, I've met my fair share), Well, I went to get my grand-niece and great grand-nephew so they wouldn't disturb him and as we were walking AWAY from the coach, he calls to us, thanks us for visiting, even acknowledges that we were from Maryland (one of few visitor cars in parking lot) and ended up giving us each one of his books, a guide to JGR racing museum (also signed).

The second has a tragic ending but because of that tragic ending, it's a weekend I'll never forget. It was his birthday weekend. The team had an away game and at the time, I was living in Maryland and rarely did I miss a send off or welcome home. Well this was his birthday, we had suffered a tough loss, so the few of us that showed up for the welcome home had a birthday cake for him. Well, not only did he thank us for the cake, he invited us into his office at Redskins park, spoke to each of us individually, finding out where we were from, etc. Little did we know, however, that in Florida, a tragic event was taking place and those of us at Redskins Park that night would be joined by hundred the next day for a prayer vigil hoping that Sean Taylor pulled through. We left Redskins Park that night with news from Larry Michaels that Sean had stabilized, only to wake up the next morning hearing those words that we didn't want to believe, and yet another trip to Redskins Park, this time for a memorial. ::sigh::

That's possible. Trying to make it look like we still have any interest in him to try and drive up trade value is another possibility.

I doubt it. I felt it was a stretch to even suggest what I did and I'm sure the football professionals would be just as sceptical.

I don't understand this. What is the upside to playing McCoy? So you can win one or two meaningless games and hurt draft position? I'm not saying tank the season. But this is the time to throw Griffin out there and have him learn. So are they going back to him at the start of next season when games actually mean something to see if he has figured it out? Griffin should play and he either will get it or not. If not, then you know and you move on next year and trade him, cut him, or bench him until his contract runs out. You also will have a better draft pick in that scenario. If he does figure it out, then you have hope for next season.

This current decision only makes sense if you plan on having Griffin never play again. He's not getting better by watching. He watched plenty of games the past two seasons and has only gotten worse each time he sits.

Yes, that is a possibility, except this is Colt McCoy. Part of coaching is managing your players and he has to do what is best for the team. However, this QB circus reminds me of the Spurrier years. And right now, Gruden looks about as competent. He seems to not know what he wants at QB. He has given up on 2 of his 3 QBs.

Confirmed: Last weekend RG3 wore a wristband/McNabb cheat sheet for the first time in his career. The team tried to hide it under his towel around his waist.

Remember those rumors we just heard that he never put the time in on studying? Now you know why.

Confirmed: As speculated earlier, sources now confirm serious unrest in locker room. Unrest began with our WRs and spread. "Starting RG3 would have risked losing the entire locker room" is the quote from the source. Per Wash Post.

From a total football standpoint, I don't see how anyone can argue against this move.

With the way Robert has played, continuing to play him would be futile. He has only shown regression at this point. The players around him will continue to play with a lack of belief in him and it'll just keep spiraling. So, for the sake of the locker room and for the sake of Robert's own psyche, let him sit and think his way out of this awful, awful funk. He's just not going to play his way out of it. Not with this team, not with this Oline.

Remember, Gibbs was famous for his QB carousel and all he did was win Super Bowls. Now, I know that he was the exception and we had the greatest Oline in history... but I don't think it should be considered some written law that you have to play the QB you want to be your long term guy.

So, in terms of football, I agree with Gruden here and understand the move.

Now, from a purely organizational standpoint... what a clown show, lol. The fact that it took this long when clearly Gruden and his staff were against starting Robert at any point this season, as were the players, tells me Dan and Bruce were way too involved (and probably still are) in all of this. Taking all of the info in (the players having an "issue" with the decision to start Robert against the Vikes because they felt it came from the top, Desean coming out and talking about, Pierre Garcon's continuous open frustration with Robert's play, Gruden's scathing critiques after Robert talked about the entire team immediately following the TB loss, etc...) , it seems like this was an ongoing battle between the FO and Gruden that finally ended when the organization sent out that message through the media that "Gruden can bench whoever he wants".

What a shame this is the type of crap still going on here. It seems like there's no end in sight and that we'll just never have a proper organizational structure conducive to success.
