How about sack percentage and percentage of time a running play gets stuffed behing the line of scrimmage? They sound kind of reasonable because they both are a measurement of how badly the OL acts like a seive.

I submit the Denver Broncos OL.

First, they rank #2 behind the Titans in only 7.2% of their running attempts being stopped behind the line of scrimmage and have the lowest percente of pass plays in which the QB being sacked at 2.6%.

And this is Peyton Manning, remember-not exactly the youngest or most mobile QB in the league so QB mobility fades into the background somewhat as an alternate explanation of a low sack percentage here.


In case you're wondering where the Redskins are on this list, well, we're 27th in sack percentage at 8.3% and-and this one is more telling I think-26th in percentage of run attempts being stuffed at 10.8%.

That kind of team-centric viewing produces comments that are as ignorant as a person who has eaten only one cheeseburger this year, but then proclaims that McDonalds makes the best cheeseburger in the country.

just thinking out loud here: a quick check of the stats revealed something interesting...the Raiders are dead last....number 32....el worsto.....bottom feeders...the dregs.....on AVERAGE YARDS PER PASS ATTEMPT AT 5.6 YARDS. some folks might call this context. what does it suggest? perhaps that the Raider passing game is largely focused on the short passing game which is inherently less susceptible to sacks?

you're reaching here bubba. seizing on a single stat to make a case is...well....a streeeeeeeetch.

They are at the top, or near the very top in nearly ever pass-blocking statistic.

So what's it mean? Probably a few things.

1. Our fans, and maybe most fans, don't watch enough NFL games to even know what they are looking at.

2. Comments like "our O-line is great, or our D-backs are bad" are completely ignorant if the person making them doesn't watch a lot of other games. Not our games. Other games.

3. You can have the best pass-blocking in the league and still have absolutely the worst record in the league. A great O-line is extremely overvalued by our fans. It's important, but we focus on it way too much.

4. Green Bay won it all with a much poorer offensive line than we have at this very second.

5. All QBs get hit. Not just ours.

6. A great number of our fans are like the drunk Miami Dolphins fan at the end of the bar wearing a Dan Marino jersey. He believes they need the next Marino to win it all. Forget that they lost Reggie Bush or Brandon Marshall. No one wants to sit next to that buffoon and listen to his comments for hours on end. And we don't need the Hogs.

5. People can say anything on the internet. It would make our fans look much smarter if before they type something like "our O-line is awful" if they would first ask themselves if they even watch enough other teams to have any basis for such a statement. 98% don't.
 
McD...please stop with trying to say we don't watch enough football. I am pretty sure that everyone on this board is very familiar with all teams and watch as much as most do. It is pretty rude to assume we aren't as educated as you because you have assumed it.

today is coach's birthday. I met him again in 2012 at an event he was doing for my friend's company. his team uses my friends company as a sponsor and to kick things off he came out to meet them. Most people (about 85%) had no idea who he really was but I sure did. My friend asked for me advice on what to bring up to him and after I gave him 3245245245 things he said, "you better just come".

So, here I am. In my hat from 2005 that I have never washed, and a 1983 Coca-Cola bottle from our Super Bowl year. He looks at me in line (I'm the only guy in skins gear) and winks. I get up to him and he says, "what is that?" I tell him what it is and he is amazed. I said, "If you want it I can send the other one I have to your shop in NC if you'd like, coach" and he just smiles at me and says, "I am pretty sure I could get one if I asked the right person"

so nice...so cool...so polite. He grabbed like 5 things to sign for me and we just talked for a good 60 seconds. I told him how he was always like an Uncle in my family and how I can remember him being in my life somehow since I was around 10. He was very kind and very easy going. Happy birthday, coach.
 
Way to represent Mike! That is absolutely awesome. And Pete - I see a banner image here - in fact, if anyone has images of themselves with Redskins greats, post them up....

Forthwith, I'm contacting Gruden directly on the batphone and letting him know that he needn't draft any o-linemen in the next draft or sign any o-line FAs. I'm going to let him know that the Broncos, Pats, et al are fools for trying to protect their high value asset. let them pursue a foolish strategy that is sure to fail them when it comes to both overall records, playoff and SB appearances. Cuz, afterall, the Oakland Raiders have surrendered fewer sacks than any other team and look where it has gotten them!
 
for anyone who cares...Morgan Moses is a d-bag. I was watching some clips where he was eaten alive and griffin ended up getting killed. Moses never made an effort afterward to even help his QB off the crowd.

Hell, fansince, your position seems more reasonable to me-that of acknowlidging multiple factors operating together to contribute to a nasty situation-than trying to shovel the blame on a "personal pet peeve" target which, unfortunately what I'm sensing with some of the things I've read both here and elsewhere in the online Redskins universe.

Things could get crazy tonight. The drama never stops.

1. London Fletcher just dropped some negative bombs about the franchise.

2. The QBs are meeting to hear about which one will start this weekend.

3. Unconfirmed "sources" are out speculating about who is still in favor of keeping RG3 and who isn't.
 
I think it is becoming clear that the 2015 opening day starting QB is not on the roster.

Whoever that player turns out to be needs to be joined by at least two blue chippers on the OL.

Shaun Lauvao is a below average guard in the NFL and why he was a pointed target of the team in FA last offseason is beyond me.

The RT spot needs to solidified. No more Tyler Polumbus. I would cut him just to ensure he doesn't end up back on the field for us.

You can't sustain an offense with guys like Lauvao and Polumbus.

One of my frustrations has been that a team coming off 3-13 in 2013 decided they could come back with a team that was largely the same for 2014 and be credible on the field.
 
Clear...to you. Not every one of us is on that wagon.
 
Schefter is reporting Griffin is done for the season. They will be signing him to an extension but they are pulling the plug on him this year to reset him and get him back to fundamentals.

Gruden is here because of his work with quarterbacks and he believes he can help Griffin but right now nothing can.

If true..I'm shocked and not sure why you throw money at a guy who's had the plug pulled on him during seasons. This is sad and confusing as a fan.
 
Schefter cites "team source" reports Colt McCoy will start.

He also reports that the Skins haven"t given up on RG3 totally.
