I see Rak's tagging as a 'show me' move, the guy is a home grown hard working team guy, a better than average player and, as some have pointed out, probably 'misused' being converted to LB in a 34.

His significant injuries did not occur until the position change for what that's worth.

The money thing only bothers me if it could have been better spent elsewhere with a similar or better return but my crystal ball has not yet revealed the answer to this particular question nor the answer to who 'stood on the table' to tag the guy considering the presumptive evidence that this same internal discussion was being held during the last off season.

The reason I see folks getting on his case is the money/self worth issue, Eff that for now and realize that this guy being gone leaves a significant hole in an already depleted defense.

I'm sure the Cowpokes are highly pleased with these events........... eff them too.
 
Oh, I dont need you to tell me what I am confusing and what I mean bud. I was quite clear in my thoughts there and understand it. I have never once questioned whether BT loves this team or not; I made a statement about fans in general. Please dont try to put words in to my mouth.

Dan Snyder is not at fault for anything going on with this team now. He hasn't had his hands in the jar for at least 4 years. It is just easiest to blame him because he is the devil you know and are comfortable with blaming. But the truth is we have had a lack of coaching, drama with coaches/players, and just some really bad luck. Snyder hasn't had a hand in any of that.

I was thinking about this on the way into work today and I absolutely agree with you. We are going INTO Dallas and then we play Minnesota. The chances of us going on a run to be a contender are very unlikely so there's no reason to rush him back. I still want him playing in live fire games this year, but and additional week or 2 is a good idea imho.
 
The one thing this team has done is consistently overrate the players on the roster.

Orakpo is merely the most public of those examples.

We really needed to move Barry Cofield to DE and upgrade with a true space-eating NT, but refused for 3 years to do it despite the evidence he wore down over a 16 game schedule inside.

Perry Riley is another example. We resigned him to a new contract, but frankly I didn't see any drop off when Will Compton was in the game last week, in fact he may be a better tackler than Riley.

A final one that comes to mind is Aldrick Robinson. This is the second or third offseason we heard that Robinson was new and improved, better in his route running and catching the ball and in for a breakout season.

He played the first couple of games of the year and is now comfortably back on the bench and then the inactive list for the team.

We should have cut bait on him this time last year, and if not then definitely after last season.

But guys find a way to stick here whether they perform well or not. Whether they stay healthy or not.
 
We don't know what Snyder's involvement in the current football operation is. We don't know if he had any impact at all on the team retaining Haslett as DC, we don't know if he he's taken any personal interest/involvement in assessing the personnel evaluation process (meaning retention of Allen and structure of scouting staff), we don't know the extent to which he was involved in the decision to bring RG3 here, and all the related issues thereto.

We have a pretty good sense he's grown a LOT, but no real clear view on what if any role he's playing now in key areas as noted.

I think we're all pretty much in agreement that our lines of scrimmage are substandard, though. Both of them. So what we need to hope is that whatever involvement he DOES have these days includes the desire to improve on the player acquisition side when it comes to big men. Even if that means "meddling" again and finding someone to either replace or work with Allen and Gruden toward that goal.

Until we can compete week to week on the line of scrimmage---both sides---we're going to continue to struggle. Particularly until and unless our putative franchise QB becomes the rising tide that lifts those ships with him like down the stretch in 2012. He was able to mask those issues for a time, but not even Superman could sustain that indefinitely.
 
If he's cleared, and he's ready, you play him.

It ain't rocket science.

Playoff runs are possible, until they aren't.

Needing reps in Gruden's system is just as important as a playoff run.
 
Don't we have a pretty good sense that Snyder has adopted Robert as his 2013-14 Portis and that didn't settle well with the Shanahans? Another regime where inexplicable holdovers on the coaching staff and scouting department are given fresh starts with a new scapegoat? The ongoing saga of what will he do next to screw up the name controversy? I think Snyders fingerprints are all over this mess.

With you 100%... but if he's not 100% by tomorrow, you gotta ride Colt on MNF. Then you're coming into a short week between back to back roadies. No reason to rush him back against Minny. We can still win with McCoy, then we go into the bye. 2 full weeks of practice....
 
If he's not ready, you don't play him after the bye, either.

When he's ready, he plays. Regardless of when that is.

I don't see any reason to rush him in. 3-5 isn't worth suffering through a Qb carousel for the rest of the season.
 
I agree with you Ax... but he's gotta be ready health wise as well as in preparedness, which is where the short week comes into play.
 
All I know about the Robert/Snyder connection is that they're close. I know this because I've seen it reported they've been seen together, both at team events and social (Wiz game?). Which to me means nothing. The only people I've ever heard say there is a problem there, or was with the Shanahans, was from local media and fans. I take neither very seriously anymore, certainly not to the point of drawing conclusions on stuff like this. :)

Frankly, I'm glad if they like each other. Better than if they hate each other? Unless I start seeing actual evidence that somehow their relationship is poisoning the locker room, or undermining the head coach, I'm going to continue to focus on progress on the field. If Robert comes back, and plays well, and next year we have a new DC and some capable big people inside, how Snyder and the QB interact with each other will no longer be on anyone's radar. And Dan will only be on the radar to the extent the cameras keep seeking him out for reaction shots on game days.

If next year we continue to get owned at the line ... and Robert isn't on his way to becoming the QB we all hope he will .. and that man still coaches our defense ... I'll continue to wish we had a brain trust--starting at the very top--that could make the clear and obvious course corrections so many of seem to thing we so clearly see.

"If he's ready" includes EVERYTHING.

He needs playing time.

I dont expect them to be sharing rooms but if they enjoy each others company and can keep it separate i see no problems with it, either. I just think Snyder is the easy scapegoat when things go wrong. Kind of like you hear people always blaming Mara any time something happens. Challenge during the game lost? "**** Mara" It is a simple go to that people still use even if Snyder has nothing to do with the team operations.

Read what I posted, it was a crap shoot weather Murph would be there or not, not weather Rak's career is or isn't a crap shoot. Any lab rat, and his next of kin could tell you that Rak has never really lived up to his billing. That being said, you're still basically saying cut bait with no real plan in place to cover the spot, even though he had about his best season to date overall last year. The team made the right move by securing him for this year to see how he did with the tag. He wouldn't have gone for a 1 year deal, so it was the best way to ensure we had his services this season while grooming his possible replacement. Ya don't cut off your nose to spite your face...
