but I am not over Rambo this year. Everyone gives up TDs...he has shown vast improvement so far, IMO.

I don't remember the Skins ever drafting a DB who played this bad consistently, and remained that bad, into his 2nd year, especially on the fundamentals of the game.
"Green" is a term used to define a rookie who makes some sporadic mistakes from time to time.
It was not meant to defend a guy who is perpetually bad, and has not figured out the fundamental of tackling, which is taught to boys playing football, nearly 20 years younger than he is. Tackling is the first thing you learn when you learn defense. It's like a Chef who does not know how to use a toaster. Or a mechanic who doesn't know what a car engine is. Whatever else he knows is useless, if he doesn't know the fundamentals.

So, now we have, not only the worst offensive player in the league at RT, but also the worst defensive player in the league.
And, we also have 2 safeties who can't tackle. I sure hope Ryan Clark is doing something behind the scenes to set them straight.

But we're getting basically the same results with him on the field, as if no-one was on the field at that position.

I'm guessing you guys invested in a Rambo jersey that you don't want to see go to waste.
Let's move beyond his cool last name, and realize he doesn't have the instincts or fundamental skills to play in this league.
And realize, that as the article stated above, his last name originally was Fudge. Which is ironic, because of how much he fudges on the field.

And Rambo only made 1 mistake in that game. The defense only allowed 10 points... 7 of it was on a single bad play where Rambo got caught staring into the backfield. Yes he mad that mistake, but it's not like he was getting burned all day.

Is grounding the ball really such a bad thing? I rarely get upset at a grounding the ball penalty. My view is, if the QB is going to get sacked what does it hurt to try to get away with a 'grounding'? You lose the same yardage as a sack, but the clock stops. This of course assume the QB doesn't have the opportunity to legitimately throw the ball away.

I thought last week's call on RGIII was dubious. It looked like to me the ball made it past the line of scrimmage in the out of bounds area which, if memory serves, still counts.
 
You lose the yardage AND the down though - that's why it's a killer penalty. I guess it would depend on where you are when you're sacked. If it's less than 10 yards back, better to take the sack.

The key is that the QB should rarely be forced to ground it - just get out of the pocket and then there's no penalty.
 
Yes, I guess if it's less than 10 yards then the extra yardage is a difference, but the loss of down is the same as a sack.
 
Polumbus is starting still because Morgan Moses actually got hurt there in the last preseason game (or week) and is not ready to take the spot. As much heat as Polumbus gets, he actually did his job vs. Texas in pass blocking. Both Gruden and Griffin point to one of those sacks he "Gave up" as being on Griffin.

The crazy thing is seeing Griffin run backwards still sometimes like Brunell used to do, and we know how much that affected the offense and pass rush. I pretty much made that the centerpiece of my campaign against him on the other board. He took too many steps back and too deep. Griffin isn't taking too many steps back usually but he's backpedaling even in cases where he can sidestep or move up in the pocket (even if it's just to take off.)
 
That 1st sack was 100% on Griffin and it was embarrassing it was so bad. Sliding is one thing but this kid's biggest fault IMO is his inability to get rid of the ball in a timely manner.

Yea, I don't get that about Griffin, now. Whereas in the past, he wouldn't hesitate to take off forward and run the ball under those circumstances, now he's doing the opposite - going straight backwards and getting sacked for big losses. I don't know if he's scared to run, because of possible injury, or scared of taking the heat from the coach for being too run-happy.
 
If Goodell gets canned.... is anyone else a little nervous that whoever takes over will be solid in the name change csmp. As much as I hate Goodell, he's been steadfast in not aggressively pursuing a change.
 
Are we talking about Griffin this year preseason included? I was under the impression teaching Griffin to be comfortable in the pocket was a good thing? Teaching him to stay in the pocket a second or two longer instead of running was the hard part? I hear this dialog a lot this week from numerous sources...I just can't get wrap my head around the idea that he needs to be that guy week one in a new system. It's a process he looks like he's progressing...If he's not the one we have Cousins.

Nope. Goodell is following the rest of the owners on the name issue, and their interests are solely monetary. If sponsors start backing out or they start losing some serious money because of pressure, then I think both the owners and whoever the commissioner is will press the issue more forcefully.

Right, but what if the new owner is Gung ho on changing it. We could start getting pressed by the other owners with the influence of the commissioner
 
Yeah, I see what you're saying, but to me, this all comes down to money. If sponsors drop, we will get lots of pressure. If they don't, we won't.

That's my take, anyway.

I've been wondering the same thing since the play happened. The TV crew didn't even mention it. To me that was a huge piece of information.
 
Thought I heard it was Kory L. who got pushed back earlier in the week. Jay G later said that Robert had taken too shallow of an angle backing away from center. Guess here it was a combination of the two.

Not unusual to see a QB tripped up like that--any QB. What made the play a disaster was Robert's instinct to try to force the handoff, and Albert's inability to secure it. AND the fact that, of course, the bouncing ball found its way to the nearest opponent ... that's something that's been happening to this team far more often than not a very long time.

The gods still aren't done punishing us for the glory years. Bastards.
