Random Commanders Thoughts

DM, I am deeply concerned about the Special Teams problems. I was talking with my Dad during the game and said that kind of crap happens once a year, if that. So at this point, we better not have ANY special teams problems the rest of the year. If we got our screw-ups out of the way early, fine. If we're seeing a replay of the crap-fest from last year, I will not only join you pitchfork folks, I will lead you.

It's ALL correctable, even Polumbus (maybe leaving him on an island against the best defensive player in the game wasn't the best gameplan?). If we start seeing the same mistakes next week and the week after, I will blow a gasket.
 
Our special teams problems are not a special teams problem.
It's the same reason our passing game sucks.....we can't block.
And if we can't block on offense, we won't be able to block on special teams.
And if we can't block on special teams, we will GET blocked.
 
We aren't lacking our issues by any stretch. I never meant to imply that and if I did my bad. We have to address the secondary and the OL. Given the circumsatances, we had a certain level of production, as well as a very good output on the defensive side of the ball. The D only allowed 10 points.... I dont know about you all but if we can hold teams to anywhere NEAR that number I would call it a success given the circumstances.

Like others have already said... these problems are all related. There is no fairy dust for this. Personnel and coaching. In hindsight, Lorenzo should have never been let go. He held that unit together. Then Reed ages out... We need these types of role players and they're not found, they're developed. We starting fresh on teams yet again. I'm not happy about it but I think this is something only time, coaching and a few smart personnel moves is going to fix. I'm afraid that we're kinda stuck with what we have now until everyone gels. (I hate that term)

Im not so sure we should rule out bringing Reed back. Thomas is hurt again, Meriweather is going to find himself suspended again at some point this season, and we obviously need help on ST.. Why not make that call?
 
Am I the only one who is pretty much done with Reed? He is becoming more "potential" than anything else. I don't think Paulsen is a world beater by any means, but at least he is on the field every game.

No you're not and now I'm disappointed in myself for bringing his name up here. I should have known.

EDIT: My bad I thought you were refering to ST and Doughty.

I was taking about Reed Doughty... should have clarified.. my fault
 
I can see that logic and can't debate it much other than to point at a guy like Percy Harvin. Seattle took a chance and stuck with him and now it's paying huge dividends. Reed is good enough he's worth sticking with.

I know, I was having a continued thought over our conversation from yesterday. I am over Reed and what he "could be" instead of being what he should be.

What does it delay? If that was valid then we should cut everyone over 30 and never keep them on the roster. If Thomas misses an extended period of time, I've all but given up on Meriweather, so why not have a vet option there who knows the defense? We going to have to spot fill that position, and Rambo can be backup for Free safety AND strong. Ihenacho is there to start, you have Doughty as the SS back up and ST captain. If anything it gives us viable options this year at multiple places on the field
 
I think it's too early to give up on Jordan Reed, though I certainly understand the frustration with him. I rolled my eyes when he was injured yesterday, along with (probably) the rest of you.

I think bringing back Doughty is fine, even for special teams alone.

Ah, yeah sorry.

I'm with you. Reed is struggling to stay healthy and right now Offensive weapons are not our biggest concern. We've got options to stretch the field. I'd like to see more Paulsen in there to help with blocking assignments, and Paul can do an adequate job in changing pace at the TE position. I hope Reed gets this injury thing out of the way because he can by dynamic, but with Paulsen being a better blocker... and our inability to keep Griff upright, it's something we should consider.

Agreed, he's shown more in a half season then Hank has in how many seasons now, and yet he's still that receiver with potential clinging onto the team. If Hank gets a pass for this long, Reed should get the same at least.
 
I was not impressed by Gruden. His gameplan was horrible. He allowed the Texans to exploit the weakest part of our team...the right side of the O -line.
 
Erase those two fumbles, block better on the PAT and we all sound very different today because the final score is 21-17 Skins.

Were there some things I didn't like? Sure. There have been things I didn't like in every single Skins game since they blew up the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl. That is the last truly complete game this team played.

I would take the WR Screen to Jackson out of the playbook. Completely. Don't ever want to see it again.

There should be a rule that our backs get a combined 25+ carries per game. Period. Set it in stone.

And when they are averaging 8 yards a pop then they should get it every play and Griff should not be allowed to pass. At all. Ever.

I also hate the idea of leaving a guy unblocked at the LOS. Houston's Reed made several great plays yesterday and on each of them he was totally unblocked. I don't mean someone wiffed on the block. I mean no one was assigned to block him. Guys went out of their way to avoid blocking him by accident. I don't know if that was scheme problems, play calling problems or problems following assignments but that crap needs to end. Now.

That was mind blowing to be honest... nobody would even get a chip on them.
